Engine options are expected to be unchanged with the same 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines on offer, albeit with tweaks for better drivability and fuel economy. While the manual transmissions remain the same, Hyundai will provide the option of a new six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox

Good to see Hyundai adding ventilated seats, 6-speed automatic transmissions, rear ac vents etc... Eagerly waiting to see the variant list/features. Hopefully someone leaks in next one or two days. Early first drive reviews suggest car does not look radically different by styling or space but usual big feature list. Waiting to see if Hyundai includes ESC, Hill Hold Assist etc or they will reserve it to Elantra and above.

SUPER BODY STRUCTURE

The Next Gen Verna with ‘SUPER BODY STRUCTURE’ is built on Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) body structure including Hot stamping Applications that enables the sedan for superior performance and unmatched safety ensuring Best-in-Class body rigidity, Structural Changes and Crash Performance. The Rigid and Responsive Chassis, and improved impact Harshness offers Superior Road feedback to the driver for a confident driving experience. The SUPER BODY STRUCTURE ensures adequate weight control thus enhancing both performance and fuel efficiency.

The Next Gen Verna has outstanding low NVH characteristics by the use of enhanced sound absorption materials and STRONG BODY STRUCTURE (AHSS) and improved engineering of design. Multiple measures have been taken to contain NVH to barely perceptible traces such as engine and transmission mount design change, implementation of tunnel insulator, extensive application of foam filler in cavity etc.

Superior Ride & Handling

The Next Gen Verna is engineered to deliver superior ride and handling for utmost driver confidence and enthusiastic driving experience. The 5th Generation Verna is built on the All New K2 platform thus enabling precise tuning of key suspension components for enhanced cornering and high speed stability, superior ride comfort and precise handling performance, making it the Next Gen Sedan optimised for Indian conditions. The rear suspension geometry has been modified for stable and comfortable ride for rear passengers by vertical angle of rear shock absorbers and coil springs on the coupled torsion beam axle.

The front suspension uses an optimally designed McPherson strut with coil springs and gas shock absorbers along with a front stabilizer to help reduce the body roll when cornering. The standard Motor-Driven Power Steering System (MDPS) has been tuned to provide superior feedback while cornering and at high speeds thus delivering precise handling response and confident drive. The front wheel caster angle has been modified to further enhance the steering feedback to the driver at Highway speeds.

Engine and Transmission

The Next-Gen Verna is equipped with the most powerful powertrain options with a choice of two power packed 1.6 litre Dual VTVT petrol and 1.6 litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel engine. The engines with advanced 6 Speed Manual and 6 Speed Automatic Transmissions have been tuned to provide superior low and high speed performance to suite city & highway driving with high fuel efficiency.

The Best-in-Class powerful 1.6 litre Dual VTVT petrol engine offers 123PS power with high fuel efficiency and 1.6 litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel engine offers best in segment 128PS power.

Diesel AT is available in the current Verna also. New Verna is coming with 6-speed auto compared to the current 4-speed AT. ARAI mileage for Diesel AT is 21 KMPL in the new Verna.

New Verna reviews are out :

We got behind the wheel of the diesel in both the manual and automatic gearbox version, so lets start with the manual first. The impressive figures on paper when it comes to power and torque figures have always translated well to tarmac in the Verna and this generation is no different. Power delivery is smooth and kicks in as low as about 1200 rpm going all the way up to about 4000 rpm. There is no sudden jerky delivery either - but linear and smooth, a trait that the Verna has always had in the past too. The big other noticeable factor in the new Verna is the level of refinement. It might not be revolutionarily quiet but it is most certainly one of the most quiet diesel sedans in its class. The Verna also scores high when it comes to vibrations and harshness with levels low enough to be invasive especially in cruising conditions.

The facelift looks more like previous generation sonata ! cool.
Apparently the big question is how it would fair in the market?
A segment which holds a history to support only 2 cars at a time, now the major sales being enjoyed by CITY & CIAZ with an average of 4.5K to 5K for both !
Honda has been continuously updating & refreshing the CITY. Maruti seems like on a lazy attitude with lethargic powertrains & SHVS benefits.

Will it knock out CIAZ/CITY ? or will be a DOD or will cannibalise the siblings CRETA & i20?

Facts & figures on Hyundai & Verna:
*India is 3rd largest market for Hyundai after China and US. Contributed 14.5% to overall volumes in H1 2017,have sold a total of 3,72,982 units in the first half.
*Hyundai targeting 10,000 deliveries of new #NextGenVerna before Diwali.
*New #Verna gets eco coating tech in air-con evaporator for odour control which Hyundai says is a world first.
*All-new 5th generation #Verna built on new 'K2' platform comes 6 years after 4th gen model.
*Cruise control, smartphone connectivity, rear curtain, rear a/c vents, ventilated seats, sunroof, voice commands, 6 airbags in new #Verna.
*The company has so far sold 3.17 lakh units of the sedan in the country since the introduction of the model in 2006. Globally, around 88 lakh units have been sold.

Diesel AT is available in the current Verna also. New Verna is coming with 6-speed auto compared to the current 4-speed AT. ARAI mileage for Diesel AT is 21 KMPL in the new Verna.

Yeah I meant, would it get the new AT
Maruti and Hyundai should get rid of the 4 speed ATs in their lineups asap imho

A decent diesel AT is very difficult below 20L except for Creta

Every other diesel AT is either DCT/DSG,AMT or 4 speed slushboxes

If they give it Creta's AT, it would be an edge over the City

Unfortunately diesel AT in new Verna is not coming in top variant which means it may not get 6 airbags and other features which is baffling. Not sure why all car makers resort to such tactics. They should provide safety pack as optional in all variants. Petrol AT is coming in SX(O) so it will get all the safety features plus other gizmos. Also no talk of adding ESC, Hill Hold etc in Verna. Pricing is the key for this vehicle to make any dent in the segment otherwise it may settle around 3000 + per month.

Sadly seems even Honda and the competition do this
They should take a leaf from MSIL's books (Ignis and Baleno ATs in top spec announced this week)

Thanks a lot Nikhil. Welcome on-board TAI. The new one looks a lot like a mini Elantra and side profile looks a lot like the Sonata. The front grill though could be a lot better.
