Re: AC automatically turns ON-Grand i10

I recently bought Hyundai Grand i10 and when i shift the AC knob to "front windscreen and leg" to remove the fog from windscreen, AC automatically turns ON and i need to manually push the button to turn it off.this happens only in this setting and no where else.
any ideas?
it happens in my verna too. push the button and AC gets on. i still don't know if i have to use hot air or cool air to remove the fog. the rear defogger makes the glass warm i think so the front defogger should do the same but it turns on the AC [confused][sleep][frustration]

Dear, as per my Knowledge, Fogging will appear when ever there is a difference in Temperature. If it is Warm outside, then switch on the AC to Windshields, If it's Warm Inside and Turn the Blower to Windscreen. And use outside air, do not use Re-circulation.

Hi Folks,

Been a short time since i visited and now back on track. Couple of hours back this morning , accidentally broken my Left Side view mirror covers. But the mirror works fine, only just the outer cover has broken. Called and approached Hyundai Motor Plaza Ekkaduthangal , Chennai regarding replacement mirror cover and to my surprise , service advisor asked me to change the entire side view mirror [anger], since HYUNDAI still doesnot produces spares for GRAND I10.

If i am right , its almost an year completed and a million car sale achieved by GRAND I10 and strange thing is non availability of spares.

Single mirror cover replacement i have to forcefully go for "Whole assembly Unit cost" without any other option it gives approximate cost of 6000 Rs. Inclusive of Paint and Labour charges.
Advise further to action accordingly, thanks.

Best Regards,
Naveen

Grand I10 Asta 1.2 - EPS and Check Engine Light Glows While Driving, Gear Shift Indicator Not Working.

The car had a misfortune of having to visit the Hyundai Service center unscheduled “TWO TIMES”. [frustration]The previous evening I noticed while driving that the "Check Engine" & “EPS” light was glowing, got a little worried and checked for all the fluids but the check light was still there even after starting the engine. So decided to call Hyundai and inform them, what followed next was surprising for me.
I own a 3 months' old Brand New Grand i10 which had got EPS & Engine light glowing display on the dashboard on January 17th, 2015 Hyundai Motor Plaza Main Workshop in Ekkaduthangal, Chennai on January 20th, 2015 where they detected the problem as “EPS Sensor Assy – Speed Part no. 964200X000”. They said that they need 5 days for getting a spare part. I was not told about the reason of such failure and ways to prevent this to happen again. I asked HMP whether it was safe to drive the car with the EPS and Check Engine Light Glows and got a response that it can drive with precautions.
5 days later after replaced EPS Sensor Assy-Speed, EPS and Check engine light display on the dashboard got disappeared all of a sudden, once again while driving, on January 31st, 2015. The steering was hard and felt like there was similar problem and noticed dashboard EPS and Check Engine light glows and also “Gear Shift Indicator Not Working”. This was an even more all dangerous situation, while driving 2nd time after repaired.
Such unexpected steering critical events that happened twice with a 3 months’ old Brand New Car – can lead to serious consequences. It’s disturbing to note that HMIL or its dealer (HMP) did not do any proper diagnosis of the problem, there is no preventive advisory being provided, neither there is any assurance from HMIL that such critical a situation will not recur. What is being done by HMIL is only a trial and error method of attempting to solve a highly critical problem.[surprise]

Anyone of you faced problem like and what is the solution.

Hello guys,

i have booked a Xcent 1.2 base without test drive.
Actually this car will be use by my parents. 95% of time will be drive by driver.

How is the performance of Xcent 1.2 ?
Is this OK to drive for 500/600 KM in a day with 4/5 + luggage ?
i am not worried about the mileage as usage will be very less.

What should i check before delivery in addition with TAI PDI check list.

Hi guys,
My colleague got a New Honda City, he fitted a Touch screen display with both front & rear display for parking. Anyone has a idea if we can fit front camera & the display to be in the ECM to be activated by a switch? Could that be possible? Just a thought, any pointers would be helpful.

I have found a weird issue in my grand i10 magna 1.2.Once I reset tripmeter to 0 km and kept the car idle for around 2 mins and when I gave a look at the tripmeter it was showing 0.1 km.How on earth did this happen when my car was standstill ,parked on the handbrake??[confused]

Has anyone noticed this in your car??
Please enlighten me on this:help:
I am not sure about digital odometer and tripmeter set up,based on some earlier reading knowledge via net,i have heard that, odometer (Analog Type),Works with a mechanism of cables, flywheels(For roating the count ),Flywheel set for engaging the particular set up according to transmission gear of vehicle.
In your case as it is digital the problem may be with sensor chip (Usually reprogrammable as well as sends the data to ECU).
You can go to your ASS and ask them to check up.Either they will reprogram it or if it is the problem with cable then you will require a cable replacement which is comparitively cheap.

Beware,Most ASS doesn't put effort in reprogramming, they simply replace full set up,reprogram to your present odometer and handover you a huge bill.[frustration]

Huyndai Xcent Braking Issues :

Hi Guys.. I m using Hyundai Xcent Petrol [S- Variant] for the past 10 months. Last week I went for a long drive and found issues in Braking.

My Xcent doesn't have ABS and i had noticed a couple of times the braking was not that effective, especially when the vehicle is fully loaded [5 people with some luggage on boot].
The situation is like this..
I was driving around 90 - 100Kmph, I approached a speed breaker and i couldn stop the car within that distance. I was forced to do Panic braking..
I knew the distance was not too short.. I followed my usual braking pattern to stop the car..

Does anyone come across such situation?? I knew due to weight increase there will be some delay in stopping.. But what i felt was totally shocking..

Whenever i travel with vehicle fully loaded [5 people] i face the same braking issues. PLease help me in solving this issue.
Should i contact Hyundai Dealer?? Or this is Normal??

Hi, usually it is there across the Segment. The stopping distance also increases with increase in Weight / Speed, etc.
But it should not be that much, as seems from your mail. do get the Brakes checked once at Service station.

Just FYI - try to Pump the Brakes, rather than pushing the brakes hard in 1 go, if such situation occurs. Multiple Pump action, is better form of Braking than regular single push. It basically imitates the ABS action.

Thank you very Much Swadesh, I will check with the service person next time..
But the problem with the Service centres is that they are not taking these issues seriously. If i make this braking issue as a check point during service.. The usual reply would be.

1) This is normal sir when you brake at high speeds.

2) we checked all parts. everything is fine. [frustration]

Anyway thanks for your tip! wil keep in mind next time. [:)]

Guys I have a problem with My Xcent pls help!!

I am using Hyundai Xcent [Petrol Variant]

I first installed Roots Windtone (Black one) without the relay.

Initially it was ok but later i found the Horn sound was slowly reduced
(Like one of the two horn not working or sound suppressing like POM POM POM..PUUMMMm..BRRRR)

I went to one local dealer and installed a 4 PIn Relay.

Even now i am not satisfied. The Same problem. Some times both horn works fine. sometimes one fails and worst case it sounds "Brrrrr"

I tried changing the Relay[ the one similar to Bosch relay] NOw the Horn is working fine.

But now i am facing new problem. Whenever i blow the horn, the music system[Hyundai OE player] is getting reseted.

(i.e If i am playing via USB, the music stops for 2 or 3 seconds after honking and again it starts playing)

I dont know what to do this is totally ridiculous. Please if any had faced similar issues pls help me..

Weather the Horn is not a Genuine Product or something wrong with the Car battery???

Any ways to check car battery or Horn. Please suggest me. what to do. ??

Anyways , ask the local mechanic to remove the horn and fit the horn again.this worked for me for 2 months. Now since 3-4 days i am facing the same problem.

Ps : these horns have inbuilt relay.

Hello All,
We own a hyundai xcent diesel vehicle. We bought it last year and driven around 12500kms now. Last saturday we faced an issue and gave it to service center, they said its clutch plate is gone. Reason they say is because of half clutch driving it might have gone. Hyundai assures 75k kms for clutch, and even if we are worst drivers it should atleast withstand for 25000Kms right?! the point here is we drove around 8000 to 9000kms in highways only. so there is no need of changing the gear frequently and the clutch wont be used as like in city drive.

what would else be the problem here? did anyone of you faced this issue?

Thanks!

Clutch play causing driveability issues - Xcent - Engine stalls in simple situations

My three months old Xcent 1.2L VTVT SX(O) was a perfect little family car, except it had two irritating problems. One is that the car engine stalls in unexpected stop-and-go situations. The vehicle when put on terrain with a slight resistance in the initial movement, as in crawling over miniature speed breaker at the shopping mall parking slots, pulling on to tarmac from side of the road etc. In a couple of demanding occasions to climb non-paved gradients, the vehicle miserably failed - The engine will stall without a clue, while it initially starts moving on slow and steady without clutch itself and giving a false sense of confidence. I had to leave the vehicle and climb up the gradient all by myself. All of these, humble Maruti 0.8L /1.0L/1.2L cars would easily tackle without any fuss.

Frustrated of this type of situations in the brand new car, I took it to the authorized service centre to see what the real problem is. Initially the service advisor was of the opinion that the car was perfectly fine. But on a casual take, he did stall the car. Finally he made a statement that the clutch had an extra free play and needs to be corrected. Maybe it's just a couple of centimeters, which I took for granted as it was there from day one. The service advisor took about 15 minutes for the work, and returned the car.

After this work, there was a dramatic change in the driveability of the vehicle. Not to mention, the clutch pedal has now zero play, but more importantly I haven't experienced the stalling issue since then. It is too early to give a clean chit, it is just about a week now. But I am much more relaxed and comfortable now, while driving. I am not sure if this will solve the gradient tackling problem that I mentioned earlier. I was unable to demonstrate the gradient tackling problem by driving up the wash ramp at the service centre.

A small clutch play can make such a difference is questionable. I'm posting this here for reference, since I am getting to see a noticeable number of posts regarding gear engagement, clutch related problems about Xcent. There is one guy who has a YouTube video posted about Xcent's gear not engaging while the engine is ON. If there is a genuine trouble, hope this community gets to the root cause of the problem.

^^ Well, I too had such problems a couple of times, initially. But nothing alarming! I can easily(well not easily, but you know!) cross inclines without fuss. And I have had encountered numerous stop-and-go situations on mall parking ramp and car behaved decently, albeit with little effort from me.

So, this is what I understand about this engine.

As @roby.thomas mentioned, if there is a clutch play, then it will stall abruptly. So we all need to get it checked? Is that so? I guess, we better mail it to hyundai and let them make it as complimentary check up while servicing!

Second, this puny 1.2L engine was never meant to carry load. Yes, you read it right! I traveled to Kerala a lot of times in my Alto with 4 adults, and w/o A/C, I never had any issues in inclines. But surprisingly, Xcent struggles even with A/C off!! I took my Sister's family along for an hilly region trip and with 4 adults + 2 kids, I had to switch off A/C and be harsh on acc pedal to keep this car moving. It was an embarrassing encounter for me!

I already have this urge to change to Aspire AT, and these kinda incidents make me push towards that decision. I wish Hyundai should have tune it better to balance both worlds(FE,Power). For me, it looks like, they tune this more towards FE, as you know, Hyundai petrols were never known for FE's!!! Let's see if I get an Aspire AT or not, after the small fix which mentioned by @roby.thomas is done!

Over the time the clutch does get a little bit of play. I don't know about xcent but in my santro and i10 the mechanic just used to tighten the clutch wire and it came back to normal within a minute.
