hi gdave
your review as well as your posts and pics are extremely good.
i have just bought a taffeta white city smt model,i want to put fog lamps but honda people are charging too much(20000),and one of the guy working in honda sales(known to me from childhood)told me to buy themfrom market and he will get it fixed at honda itself(cost around 6000).
please advise what should i do,i really need help.
one more thing i previously had 2011 city smt and i had a mapmyindia gps navigator with reverse camera support.i used a reverse camera worth 1600 rs(don't know the brand name) with it and that was ok.my 2011 city had an accident so i bought 2012 model.now i have to buy a reverse camera too, please give advise regarding that too(brand, cost, etc.)
Thanks my dear friend. sorry for the delay. I was out of station for a while.

Regarding the fog lamps. When I asked Honda service, here in kerala, they told me that two types of fog lamps are available for S-MT. One is Honda genuine fogs with garnish (costs around 20000/-) another one is of rs: 7,000- 8,000 (I dont remember the exact price).
They also told that the original ones are heavier than the other but the quality is almost equal. I also wanted to get the 7,000 piece.
So my suggestion is get into a V-MT and check if it is giving you required performance.

I got the reverse cam, sensors and screen from Honda showroom itself.(I thought they will not alter the original wire harness. but they did alter the wire harness). Since it is Honda Showroom they quoted Rs. 12,000. From out side you can get it around 8,000-9,000. Company really dont matter. I got a chinese one with usb/sd card/bluetoth facility. after 8 months it is showing no problems till now.
You can check it from my earlier post.

Hi, i got a SMT 2012. For some reason on an empty tank with the yellow light switched on and the range showing only 25kms left. I was able to fill only 32 litres for a car whose capacity is 42. My car is only 10 days old. Is this some sort of major problem? Or just a minor one..Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The range which is shown on the screen might not be very accurate all the time. And for a tank of 42 lit, you may not be able to fill full because there are many reasons. Air trapped inside the petrol tank could be one reason. try shaking the car little and redo again may help.

Also please notice that if you refuel for 500 or 1000 rupees after the fuel indicator is in very low/last 3 bars, the fuel level will not rise. It will remain in the same position as before the refuel. If we put more petrol, the level will rise.

This issue is seen in mine as well as ma friends's honda city.

Finally did a small modification with DRL. Put the LED strip inside the case and it is now long lasting even I cant use it during daytime due to low brightness. But during night and evening time it is giving a nice look to the car.

As far as the Supreme Court Rule stands we can not use any obstacle which could affect the VLT. But I can roll it when not required. rolls are not available for side glasses. you can get suction type shades for side windshields.

I got it from ebay at rs:300/- something

At last I got the illuminated sill plates installed in my Honda city. [cheers]
It took almost 3 hrs to finish the job and paid 300 Rs. for installation.
This time no alteration of wires were done. The wire is taped to the Roof light terminals and connected parallel to all the 4 sill plates. ( The connection is not given to door switch)

Hi gdave,
I have a question.i yesterday installed parking sensors from honda dealership for 8500 rs,including a screen and 4 sensors.today evening while i was reversing, the sensors showed nothing and i touched our gate and then had a deep scratch mark on my rear bumper and then it started to beep like hell and showing STOP signal.i am really upset with this thing.i want to know that is this a normal thing to get so much delayed response from sensors or there is definitely a malfunction and i should take it seriously to honda dealer.i was reversing very-very slowly at that time.
When i test these sensors by putting hand against each one then they seem to work fine but while reversing and against real obstacles they show delayed response.they also don't detect the small brick wall (about 1 feet from ground) of our lawn, and i nearly got over the lawn if i was not paying attention.

Sorry to hear about the scratch on the rear bumper.
Is it a big scratch or smaller one?Is it very well visible? If the gates are in the sensor limit it should identify the object. In my Honda City it detects gate. Please check the video in my thread.

I also made the same mistake by only looking at the screen. Some times we have to watch both side mirrors and screen. Use the screen only for identifying obstacles on the back side of the car which will be invisible through side mirrors.

The parking sensors have its limitations since when it goes beyond the limit, it wont detect any obstacle( I think this happened in your case). and the screen blinks when it starts to display distance(in my car reverse system, the screen will be blank when it starts counting the distance. this happens just for a sec or less than a sec) so I will move it slowly until it gives final information ( when the screen is back). you will get used to it after using for some time.

So my advice will be don't drive with 100% confident that you will never hit an obstacle while reversing by trusting rev camera and sensors.Sensors wont be able to catch smaller walls, trees, etc. ( as I mentioned before about the limit).
You can trust it 100% if the back side is of a flat things like fence, building etc..). Even after the sensor gives stop stop signal there will be a minimum clearance of 15cm(apprx.)

And be careful if the backside is sloppy. The sensors will not detect the slopes. in that case you may scratch the bottom side of bumpers.

the cam with sensors are helping much better than those with only sensors. it gives only pic pic pic sound which drives me mad.

And make sure that the sensors are working fine by checking with a flat, height obstacles like side wall, otherwise we have no chance of complaining Honda people.
