Hi GUys
Can someone post the service bill for 50k KMS service.
I've a diesel Amaze nearing 48000 kms and would like to see the consumable parts to be changed for 50000 service.
Mine is also nearing the 50k service.

Service manual says changing of oil filter and engine oil is the only consumables.
Maybe brake pads in case. That should be enough.

Tyre Upsize

Dear all,
One of my tyre bursted. and its time to change all 4 tyres.
kms run : 52700kms approx.
tyres currently: Goodyear, stock.

My priorities would be better NVH, handling and ride quality without compromising much on fuel efficiency. and a budget of 5K per tyre.

i wanted to change to michelin xm2 and was quoted Rs.4850 per tyre(175-65-r14).
however i was offered 185-65-r14 for Rs.4950. and it falls under my budget of 5k per tyre. was offered myTVS gold card free for a year.

Question.
1. shall i go in for 185-65-r14? or stick on with 175-65-r14 ?
2. what do you think will be the effect on mileage.? im getting close to 20kms/lt.
3. will there be a drastic improvement in terms of ride quality, NVH and handling between the two tyres.?

Thanks & Regards
Andrew

  • How did the tyre burst ? Are you OK ?
  • Michelin XM2 is the best option if you need an all round package.I'm having it on my Maruti Alto and it's a charm.
  • 185-60-14 is the correct ration if you're up sizing. There will be a slight odo error is you're up sizing to 185-65-14. It will be slight and negligible.
  • I think there will not be any change in mileage since the XM2's are famous for an increase in mileage with the compound used in it. It's having a rolling resistance less to that of any similar tire and thereby increases the mileage. Attaching an image of Michelin India's reply for your reference. This was the query asked by me when i took the XM2 2 year's back [:D]
  • Yes. There will be drastic change in the ride quality and comfort. Believe it.OE tires are mainly meant for extensive life sacrificing the ride quality and NVH levels by using comparatively hard compound rubber, whereas XM2 will be providing all the comfort zones, but i think it won't last as much as the OE tires do. But it's the safest bet you can choose here [clap]

Theoritical figures i think Vishnu.

But reduction will be 1-2 km/l.
I had Xm2 in my wagon r ,my vehicle got comparitvely higher resale value ,the Sales executive specially noted Michelin Xm2 in their list ,and he had commented great set of wheels.[:)]
I think better to stick to custom profile in tyre as if the use is within city limit (more prone to bumps, much difference in smoothness won't be felt)
Michelin definitely improves ride quality,i will assure 100%.

Iam absolutely fine. it happened in bangalore- chennai highway at a speed of about 110kms. the car managed well and was in control till halt.
the tyre dealer said it would have bursted as the tyre was worn out a lot and i should have changed atleast before 5k kms.

And Thanks for your input. even the tyre dealer gave the same explanation like michelin india. and he gave me his brio for a test drive yesterday which is fitted with 185-65-r14 Xm2. and god,, it was awesome to drive. amazing improvement in terms of nvh, handling and ride [clap] !!. and which makes me want to go for it..[:D]

thanks for your inputs.. and my usage till now have been 60% highway and 40% city. i couldnt resist going for 185-65-4-r14 after the test drive. and wouldnt mind a 1-2 Km/l reduction for the drive quality and NVH [;)]

to all,
Any comments on the ABS calibration if i change to 185-65-r14.? i believe it will be negligible as well. or am i worrying too much here !?

I'm running on 205-50-15 for the past 22K km's. evrything is fine [:D] It is basically an electronic unit. You will get better feel on brake as well the ABS shudder will reduce slightly since it's a negligible up size. [:)]

Any idea how they will recalliberate the ABS unit?
It is basically an electronic unit. It won't sense the width or whatever of the tire, it just prevent tire's from locking up. I've tested my 205-50-15 tire's on ABS and everything worked just fine.

My Alto is also running on Michelin energy XM2 12" and I never knew it will increase efficiency?. Vishnu is that true., tell me from your experience :)
Yes, XM2's are known for mileage bump. I've felt around 1 kmpl bump on my alto. [:)]

Hi Vishnu,
with my 85% highway driving, i clocked almost 43K+ in 1year 5months, and my brother is so impressed with performance of AMAZE that he bought new AMAZE and sold out RAPID [;)] , well there were many factors behind this change. but he is very impressed with AMAZE.

Now its time to change my tyres in near future, so here's my list !!
Hows Handling with 205/50/15 over stock tyres ? is there any difficulty compared to stock ones ?
i heard from a dealer that steering wheel won't be so responsive after tyre upsize ? please share your experience.
upsize tyre 175/65/14 to 195/60/14 or 205/50/15, which would be better for performance and handling, impact on suspension ? does it touches edges top or sides ?

Handling : That's gonna be the best part. Rock solid. I've done a wide corner on NH7 on a continuous 140 kmph even without a single tire squeal. Every passenger was keeping pin drop silence till the corner exits and then everyone was amazed on that feel[:D]
No issues with the steering. It weighs up little, but it is perfect .

Power : I've felt a slight loss in power since there is more contact on road and there is more rubber to get going. Since it's a linear turbo you'll feel that, else not.

Suspension : Yes, that's the sad part. The suspension set up in amaze is comparatively more stiff and with the influence of 205-50-15 tire's it gets a little bit on the harsh side . You do feel the road conditions, though you can easily live with it. I was commuting though one of the bad days daily and it's ok .

195-55-15 is an "OK" up size whereas 205-50-15 is the perfect up size [evil]

It won't touch edges or top even on full load and offroading. Tried and Tested .[evil]

That sounds cool, Thanks a lot.
now one more quick question!
Honda stock alloy (15") or after market ? Why i'm asking !? I see your alloy's cap popped out ! My AMAZE got 14" rims (SMT model) ! Please suggest good alloys, you must have taken notes over hunting for your AMAZEing alloys !!!

Cap popped out because the wheel balancing guy didn't fix it properly[frustration]

Go for aftermarket alloys. Best is stick to some branded one's.

So if any 1 alloy gets broken you can source a single alloy rather changing the whole 4[:)]

OE alloys don't have the enough J width. My Lenso is 7J whereas company alloys are 5J
