Thanks [cheers] This is indeed my first thread in TAI. Most find my style of writing very immature [lol]
I find it gripping and amusing.I like it .
I like your DIYs but I have a query.
Why do you keep changing different grades of engine oil ,all through the ownership?
Some are plainly not recommended. Some of them are not even meant for a petrol engine. They are plainly diesel engine oils. You seem to love your machines. Then why do you to this ATYACHAAR(for want of a better word, meaning wrongdoing) with your machines??
And they are not cheap either. Why do you seem to go out of the way,and spend money and buy and use NON- recommended grades of engine oils.

Always open to experimenting and spoiled by Google and YouTube. Know some crazy guys using some particular diesel oils (Delvac and Rimula) long term on petrol cars and some gone to the extreme of using them on bikes. So thought of trying, but I would never recommend or have recommended to anyone [angel]

Regarding frequent grade change, even OEMs are not sure of which one to stick with [lol] Maruti themselves started off with 20w40, 15W40, now 5W30. When I bought FZ, Yamaha was recommending 20W40. They were okay with 15W50. Suddenly, they switched to 20W50 and now 10W40. Hero and Honda also followed the path. Switched from 20W40 to 10W30 suddenly one midnight [;)]. Too much itch to try different grades and brands.

While Angel was at garage, both me and the speakers were sitting idle at home. 10 year old and carpeting was missing at places and loose at other.

2019-07-05 16-07-40.jpg

Thoroughly dusted the speakers and cleaned the enclosure.

Changed the speaker box terminals. The wood grains are hard to remove once the get stuck in carpet.

Recarpeted where ever needed.

Carpet was cheap. The roll had width 6 ft and I bought 1/2 meter width from that roll. Got for ₹ 85.00. Also bought a tube of my favorite Fevibond, ₹35.00 for 40 ml tube,

Old one. Edge was torn and gets stuck when that part goes inside the reel. Fixed by burning the edge, but was irritating when that part touches the neck.

July 2019: Continues...

Atrocities by the previous garage. They removed speaker in order to replace power window motor assembly. Spacer was already damaged, but expected they would install new spacer instead of this. Tweeter fell off before, not their fault, but the plastic ring was missing. Stuck a piece of tape till I can find suitable dust cover.

Just a casual search in Google yielded this. i-Copper 6.5 Inch waterproof spacers. Really fed up with wooden spacers. They shreds away after 1-2 monsoon from moisture (not direct exposure). Got from Amazon.in. ₹ 250.00/pair including shipping.

This is the seller. Motorogue.in.

Only drawback is it jars with bass compared to wooden spacers.

July 2019: Boot Lamp

Another lazy day, another idea. Was sitting idle and popped up the idea of puddle lamp after @vishnu vichu 's install. Checked Boodmo for all sorts of OEM puddle lamps, which got shifted to boot lamp. After a couple of searches, it turned out most of the cars irrespective of manufacturer uses the same assembly or similar ones. Maruti ones looked dated with an ugly white sliding switch. Then Tata came to mind. Searched for Safari's and found almost all Tata cars had the same unit either in glovebox or in boot. Ordered one right away. I love these Boodmo guys.

2019-07-20 16-27-19.jpg

Tata Part Number - 287154409930 - ₹ 121.00 + 30.00 Shipping. MRP was ₹ 127.00
Price mentioned in packing is for two.

2019-07-20 16-31-07.jpg

Looked neater than Maruti's.

Installation:

To my very suprise, there was already a depression for boot lamp as well as for 12V socket in the boot on a 10+ year old model.

2019-07-21 13-12-21.jpg

First have to remove the bottom panel above the bumper. Two plastic rivets.

2019-07-21 13-05-10.jpg
2019-07-21 13-05-15.jpg

Then two of them at the bottom of the panel.

2019-07-21 13-05-01.jpg

And gently pull out.

2019-07-21 13-12-15.jpg

12 years of dust.

2019-07-21 13-14-16.jpg

The depression was exact to the size, but I screwed up cutting a bit offset.

2019-07-21 13-35-06.jpg

Trial fit

2019-07-21 13-39-52.jpg

Needed lot of wire. Had to draw supply from dome light.

2019-07-21 13-43-09.jpg

Connection idea. Boot lamp will light up only with boot open and not with any door. Isolated from rest of the doors. But security system will work without fail. Next idea is to isolate doors from bootlamp and front dome light for front doors only.

Trial after wiring and installing everything back.

I like your DIYs. Really!
I am not a fan of lights and all that stuff.I have little/not -enough knowledge of wiring and cutouts and leds and specs and all. All I can do is change headlight or back-light bulbs, thats all,and that too only when they fuse.
Still I love how you do things and post it with pics making everything looking out to be simple ,even when they are not, actually that simple.

Actually it becomes obvious to me at least that you are not doing it just to show off, but in truth, loving what you do ,and therefore putting it all here. Maybe thats the real reason I like it.

July 2019: 12V socket cover.

As usual was browsing through Boodmo and stumbled upon this, the 12V socket cover. Thought of trying, ordered right away. Fits almost all Maruti's with 12V provision till date.
Socket Cover - 39441M75J01-5PK - ₹ 28.00 (Shipping ₹ 15.00)

2019-07-21 15-14-33.jpg
2019-07-21 15-14-13.jpg

My first DIY on Angel. Jugaad. That time I wasn't familiar with foam boards or better alternatives (read no pocket money, no exposure). Bought a regular Chinese socket. Cut some cardboard and some black vinyl and job done. Luckily it held well for more than 10 years. Even I forgot to redo it properly all these years.

2019-07-21 15-19-48.jpg
2019-07-21 15-19-56.jpg

Issue then was the hole was bigger than any standard size 12V socket aka cigarette lamps. Maruti was quoting, I remember, around 1k.

2019-07-21 15-20-05.jpg
2019-07-21 15-20-11.jpg

It was simple plug in. Push and lock the cover in place.
2019-07-21 15-20-59.jpg

Then push the socket in. Since it wasn't the OEM part made for the OEM cover, took some extra effort, but fitted well.

2019-07-21 15-23-23.jpg

Perfect.

OEM finish.

Maruti Original socket costs ₹ 180.00. Part number 39420M83P00.

July 2019: Door Speaker Spacer Replacement

Removed the door pad to access the speaker and removed the speaker and the frame.

2019-07-28 14-25-05.jpg
2019-07-28 14-25-11.jpg

The horrible condition of the spacer. LH still retained the material, which RH completely disintegrated (See a couple of posts back). Screws rusted as well.

2019-07-28 14-25-52.jpg

Spacer actually crumpled, but held together by the speaker. This one was actually bought for @vishnu vichu's Amaze, but swapped with Estilo's thicker one for more clearance for the speaker magnet from glass.

Screws and speed clips to secure them down.

2019-07-28 14-34-46.jpg

Ready to fit.

2019-07-28 14-37-48.jpg

Perfect. Actually didn't need any extra holes.

2019-07-28 14-38-24.jpg

Perfectly hooked on to the perimeter of the hole in the door panel.

2019-07-28 14-39-16.jpg

All set and done. Repeated on the other side as well.

2019-07-28 14-46-51.jpg

Everything intact in the LH door, since no one ever worked on that side.

2019-07-28 14-47-01.jpg

Bought some door clips to replace the broken ones. A few were damaged in the boot panel during the boot lamp installation. ₹ 2.00/peice
