Most of my friends who own Punto (in BLR) get around 14+ in city with AC.

What is Punto's Gross Weight ? Same engine in Manza gives me 16+ in BLR city.

OT- My cousin's Punto Petrol gives her 12+ in city(Kolkata) with AC.

Cheers,
Anshuman

* Vehicle : Ford Figo 1.4 TDCI
* Fuel : Diesel
* Method : MID
* City Mileage: 19-20 KMPL in city (without AC) / 16-17kmpl (with AC)
* Highway Mileage: 21-22 KMPL ( Without AC) / 19-20 Kmpl (with AC)

I achieve the above city FE figures only when I drive smoothly, without consuming too much pickup of my car.

I don't think Figo has MID[;)]. If you are referring to DTE, that's just an approximation and not really accurate. For optimal calculation, please use ONLY Tank-to-Tank method.

Fresh update (post 2nd service) after Yelagiri trip (Punto MJD 76 hp, MID reading):

Pers: 2 (adults) + 1 (2 yr)

Total travel: 337.4 Km
Avg speed: 40 Km/hr
Mileage: 20.3 Km/l
AC on full time except during hairpin bends, only 12 Km done once reached Yelagiri.

Shocked regarding the (perhaps pathetic) reading I got when climbing:
Distance: 22.1 Km
Avg speed: 24 Km/hr
Mileage: 13.3 Km/l
AC off, mostly done in 2nd gear / 3rd gear, slower than I could normally to avoid ghat troubles to passengers and facilitate a few clicks.

^^ 13 to 14 kmpl is what even I achieve in ghats while climbing up. Dont worry. Its due to the fact that engine keeps spinning at high revs and mostly in 2nd & 3rd gear. I generally like to keep the revs in turbo zone for instant power on tap of the pedal.

Thanks for the info.

Btw, as expected, more than made up with mileage when coming downhill (2nd / 3rd gear at bends):

Distance: 23.9 Km
Average speed: 32 Km/hr
Mileage: 36.5 Km/l

For some reason, I am not getting better FE both in City and Highway drives. City figures are acceptable to a limit considering the driving conditions in Bangalore, but Highway?

Normally in City varies between 12 - 14 KMPL, very rarely 15.

Highway drives yields about 16 - 17 KMPL with average speed of 100-120 KMPH. Last weekend, been to Mantralayam and the entire drive of 800 KMs was in good roads cruising @ 80 - 120 in NH and 60 - 90 in SH. No in city drive at all. 2 Adults + 1 Kid and very minimal luggage. The FE for onward was 17.5 & return was 17.8. I don't think these are acceptable figures for this kind of drive.

Moreover, the car is wearing brand new Apollo Acceleres too.

Note: The ODO is now 40K and due for service this week. However, this is just not now. The figures aren't impressive (as claimed by fellow Figoians) anytime, except for once in a drive Pune - Mumbai - Pune which gave 22.5. I was alone in that trip, but was doing about 120 KMPH and 140 at times.

Am I missing something here? Any suggestions?

BTW, DTE is always between 550 - 620 depending on past driving patterns and it reduces drastically for every drive... Say, for a drive of 13 KMs it reduces by 15 - 25 depending on conditions. However, when the Tank is just a little less than full, the DTE stops for about 50 - 100 KMs and then restarts it's count down again. And thereafter, it wound reduce more than what you will expect. By the first 2 - 3 KMs, it would move down by 6 - 7 KMs and then 1:1 or similar.

I am not taking DTE for calculations and always do Tank - to - Tank and maintain a Excel Sheet for the past 2 years right from the 1st Tank Up [clap]. Never missed even one till date. Yet, the DTE figures aren't much different with the Tank-to-Tank calculations, perhaps, a little.

Quite confused...[confused]

I think being light (as the experts say) on the accelerator pedal is the key here which makes the difference of those 2-3 Kms per liter on highway runs, add to that - highway traffic.

Accelerate gradually and target to maintain the speed for good intervals.

As an example, I drove the vehicle in two different styles in my recent drive to Yelagiri and here are readings for the ~138 Km stretch between Bangalore and exit of NH7:

Relaxed driving (left 8:15 AM from Bangalore on Friday): Avg - 50 Km/h, Con - 23.6 Km/l

Somewhat anxious driving with more traffic (left 8:30 AM from NH7 on Sat): Avg - 40 Km/h, Con - 20.3 Km/l

In first case, even with relaxed driving I reached in shorter time with good average speed - speed changes during overtaking matter a lot I guess.
