Haas team granted entry for 2015 season

A team owned by NASCAR's Gene Haas has been formally accepted to join the F1 grid for the 2015 season.

In December the FIA opened a tender for a 12th team and Haas quickly became one of the leading contenders to take on the position. Originally Bernie Ecclestone voiced doubts about the financial validity of Haas' bid but has recently changed his opinion on the proposed team.

The bid, which was formally submitted in February, was signed off at the FIA's April 11 meeting. Haas has revealed his relief and excitement at being accepted into the sport.

"Obviously, we're extremely pleased to have been granted a Formula One license by the FIA," Haas said. "It's an exciting time for me, Haas Automation and anyone who wanted to see an American team return to Formula 1.

"Now, the really hard work begins. It's a challenge we embrace as we work to put cars on the grid. I want to thank the FIA for this opportunity and the diligence everyone put forth to see our license application come to fruition."

Haas co-owns the Stewart-Haas outfit in NASCAR with Tony Stewart, which won the 2011 Sprint Cup championship. Haas' outfit will be the first American team in F1 since the 1970s. USF1 was granted entry for the 2010 season the last time the FIA opened their application process, but they failed to make the grid due to financial difficulties.

Bernie Ecclestone has also hinted there is at least one more team who could join the grid for next year and the FIA confirmed it was investigating further a new entry called Forza Rossa.

Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali resigns after Scuderia's poor start to 2014

Stefano Domenicali has resigned as Team Principal of Ferrari, it was confirmed on Monday, with the 48-year-old paying the price for another slugglish start to a Formula 1 season by the Scuderia.

After three races, Ferrari stand a lowly fifth in the Constructors' Championship, 78 points behind Mercedes - F1's only other manufacturer outfit, but one which has stolen a clear march on the Italian marque in adapting to the sport's new hybrid technology.

The performance gap between the two outfits was particularly stark at the recent Bahrain GP. While Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg duelled wheel-to-wheel for victory at Sakhir, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen could only trail home ninth and tenth respectively.

"It is time for a significant change. As the boss, I take responsibility, as I have always done, for our current situation," said Domenicali, who joined the team in 1991. "This decision has been taken with the aim of doing something to shake things up and for the good of this group of people that I feel very close to.

"With all my heart, I thank all the men and women in the team, the drivers and the partners for the wonderful relationship we have enjoyed over all these years. I hope that very soon, Ferrari will be back where it deserves to be."

Red Bull lose appeal for Ricciardo's disqualification

Red Bull has lost its appeal against Daniel Ricciardo's Melbourne disqualification.Following Monday's hearing in Paris, the FIA announced on Tuesday morning that the judges "decided to uphold the decision" to exclude Ricciardo's car for exceeding the maximum allowed flow of fuel.Red Bull argued that the FIA-homologated sensor was faulty. The FIA did not, however, accept title rival Mercedes' submission that Red Bull should be further penalised in order to deter the team from committing similar breaches.A full explanation of Tuesday's decision will be published later this week.
In a media statement, Red Bull said it "accepts" the court's decision, even if the reigning world champions are "disappointed".
"(The team) would not have appealed if we didn't think we had a very strong case," Red Bull added.
"We will now move on from this and concentrate on this weekend's Chinese grand prix."

Qualy: Hamilton Shines In The Rain

Lewis Hamilton set a new pole position record for a British driver when he claimed the coveted grid slot for the Chinese GP.

Despite earlier predictions that the rain would abate after FP3, it was still coming down at the start of qualifying with the track conditions worse than they were in the morning. The conditions, though, did little to deter Hamilton who set the pace in the first and sector segments. And in Q3 when it really mattered, he posted a 1:54.348 to jump six-tenths clear of the chasing field, which was led by Sebastian Vettel. Not content with that, the British driver put on a fresh set of intermediate tyres and shaved 0.488s off his previous best to lower the benchmark to a 1:53.860.Daniel Ricciardo put up the closest challenge, finishing in second place, 0.595s down while Vettel had to settle for third behind his team-mate.Nico Rosberg, probably the most likely to take the fight to Hamilton, made a mistake on his penultimate lap and then spun on his final one to finish down in fourth place.Fernando Alonso was best of the non-Mercedes/Red Bull battle ahead of his former team-mate Felipe Massa.Valtteri Bottas, Nico Hulkenberg, Jean-Eric Vergne and Romain Grosjean completed the top ten with the latter Lotus' first top-ten of this season. The big shocks of qualifying was that Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button both failed to make it into Q3 in the rain. With the rain coming down a bit harder at the end of Q2, Raikkonen missed out qualifying in 11th place with Ferrari later revealing that there was a problem with his downshift.Button, complaining of a lack of front tyre grip, finished in 12th place. It was a double disappointment for McLaren as Kevin Magnusse was P15.Meanwhile, Pastor Maldonado did not set a time at all in qualifying as the Lotus driver had an issue with his Renault engine which meant he did not contest the afternoon session.

Hi,
Mercedes Benz AMG F1 Petronas Team Rocks the Qualifying and Races. Its only Redbull who is having a good Aero package still can compete closely with them.
A good car with great drivers. 40+ second gap between the cars were bit huge differences in F1.

Daniel Ricciardo is seriously a phenomenal driver. He proved himself in the last two races, and i guess a different tire strategy would have made sebastien finish at podium.

What about the race in suzuka, its going to be pretty amazing to see if it rains a lot during the race. And I think that teams like ferrari and redbull have opted for a wet race setup, hence there outright pace was low as compared to others in the qualifying today. So it will be interesting to see what happens in the race tomorrow.
