Story Continued.
Came back from my house after Saturday morning breakfast! Our Mechanic had taken the car to workshop! Drove his 2003 Splendor to work shop and I liked the smoothness of that engine than my Pulsar.
We checked the suspected tensioner bearing, but my bad luck, the tensioner spring itself had given off. Sadly, in Ford, the tensioner assembly comes together with the idler assembly as an aluminium casing.
Called Mahavir Chennai, and they said China make was available for Rs.4800/- (comes with aluminium casing, aluminium bearings for idler, tensioner). mechanic wanted to check OE rate. So went to Ford Service in bike with the worn out belt!
They said the usual dialogue. "Bring the car sir!" Also, when i enquired about the price for the Entire Idler assmbly, they said it costs 6500 for spares alone and labour is extra!
So, decided on going to OE spares and took the car there. The SA asked us to come back by 3.30 PM.
Went there by 3.30, and as I had expected, they had changed only the bearings and the drive belt. When we asked them why they had not changed the entrie setup, the reply was
"You asked only for this Sir - idler assembly means only these three"
I told them that my mechanic had suggested the replace of whole setup, then came the reply - Setup was out of stock. They also insisted that, I change only these things and it will be fine. I let them proceed with the warning that I will come back anytime if the problem arises again.
And voila, after fitting all the things, they came back saying the belt is moving out of the bearing. The tensioner spring is out and needs replacement.
Ford OE idler assembly costs
14,000 + 2,250 for drive belt + 3000 for labour summing up to
nearly 20,000 rupees. Also, this was out of stock and should be ordered and was expected to arrive in 4 days after order is placed.
I asked them to remove the bearing and the belt and also asked the mechanic to fit a spare belt which I had with me.
This was completed in an hour and I came back to our garage with my car still unrepaired!

. Good thing was that the Ford Service guys
did not charge for this entire process!

Thus spent my Saturday. Went to my hometown in my firend's bike that evening!
Fast forward Sunday and Monday here I was, back in Chennai.
Went to Mahavir on Monday at around 10.30 AM and asked for the spares which I had enquired over phone.
He sent a guy outside to get it to shop. This guy never seemed to return for quite a long time!
Meanwhile, got spares for Ilango's Accent, my drive belt & Accelerator Cable too. Since it was getting late for office went to another shop my mechanic suggested.
Rishaab Auto Spares (G.P.Road) - He said he will be able to get it by Tuesday for Rs.3,800 (1000 rupees less than my previous shop's quote)
So, paid here and asked him to parcel the part to pondy by Bus.
Total Expenses:
Tensioner Assembly : Rs.3,800/-
Drive Belt : Rs.600/-
Accelerator Cable : Rs.275/-
Total Rs.4,700/-
Current Status: Spares have been parcelled to Pondy and are in transit. Will be fit to my car tomorrow hopefully.
Meanwhile, had my AC vents cleaned today (thanks to ilango for arranging this) but it will take one more day to clean the air-con setup fully.
Hoping to get my car back in form when I go to Pondy on Saturday.
