Fix it soon....Not a big deal on money. Hardly max of 1000 bugs...[:D]
the tensioner along with the body is vibrating.

the whole aluminium body along with this bearing (beside the powersteering pump), all along as a assembly is to be changed. changing the bearing alone will not help as the body spring are giving away and vibrates when the car is started.

Original assy at ford + bearing + belt+labour is almost 20000/-

same assy is said to be avail for 4900/- , chinese make . will have a life of 2 years.

easy(compared to 20k) for low vitM for present situation.

both the cars are in my garage .

@MSN! almost we can say less than a week , but a week is too much .

It was just a day, even less. that is from morning to evening.

may be less than a week i guess
The car was left parked in my parking for only a day! and that too I had cleaned it thursday night around 11pm when I returned home from work. THe car was that muddy when I came back home again on friday night. Exactly 1 day. Took nearly 2 hours to dust it and clean it fully as I had to go to pondy on Saturday morning!

Holysatan please post the pics of your car after you gave her the much needed wash. And how come your car was so dusty just after 7-10 days. Some construction going on nearby?
@Akash, Did not wash the car yet. Just dusted it to make it look neat and took it to Pondy.

The Drive Belt Debacle:

Yet another fine Saturday morning! Had packed all my stuff on friday night and hit the ECR at 6am. A very fine journey with one stop at Kalpakkam for coffee. Three friends of mine came with me to Pondy.

Reached Pondy at 8.30 AM. A subtle 2 hours drive at speeds around 75 to 85kmph. Just after one of my friends got off at his home, I started the car again and as I moved, things felt weird. The steering was heavy. Suspected a punture and stopped again to check that. Nothing like that had happened.

Got in again and started to drive and the steering felt awkwardly hard. Power steering was not working. Drove slowly, dropped the two others. Noticed by the time that, the battery indicator was also glowing.

Called Ilango[sleep], woke him up and got an earful. Said that I am bringing the car to his house.

Went there, checked the underbody, just like I suspected the new drive belt had snapped and was hanging from the car.

Left the car at his home, asked him to call the mechanic and take to it garage and left home happily with Ilango's bike[evil]

Story Continued.

Came back from my house after Saturday morning breakfast! Our Mechanic had taken the car to workshop! Drove his 2003 Splendor to work shop and I liked the smoothness of that engine than my Pulsar.

We checked the suspected tensioner bearing, but my bad luck, the tensioner spring itself had given off. Sadly, in Ford, the tensioner assembly comes together with the idler assembly as an aluminium casing.

Called Mahavir Chennai, and they said China make was available for Rs.4800/- (comes with aluminium casing, aluminium bearings for idler, tensioner). mechanic wanted to check OE rate. So went to Ford Service in bike with the worn out belt!

They said the usual dialogue. "Bring the car sir!" Also, when i enquired about the price for the Entire Idler assmbly, they said it costs 6500 for spares alone and labour is extra!

So, decided on going to OE spares and took the car there. The SA asked us to come back by 3.30 PM.

Went there by 3.30, and as I had expected, they had changed only the bearings and the drive belt. When we asked them why they had not changed the entrie setup, the reply was "You asked only for this Sir - idler assembly means only these three"

I told them that my mechanic had suggested the replace of whole setup, then came the reply - Setup was out of stock. They also insisted that, I change only these things and it will be fine. I let them proceed with the warning that I will come back anytime if the problem arises again.

And voila, after fitting all the things, they came back saying the belt is moving out of the bearing. The tensioner spring is out and needs replacement.

Ford OE idler assembly costs 14,000 + 2,250 for drive belt + 3000 for labour summing up to nearly 20,000 rupees. Also, this was out of stock and should be ordered and was expected to arrive in 4 days after order is placed.

I asked them to remove the bearing and the belt and also asked the mechanic to fit a spare belt which I had with me.

This was completed in an hour and I came back to our garage with my car still unrepaired![frustration]. Good thing was that the Ford Service guys did not charge for this entire process![clap]Thus spent my Saturday. Went to my hometown in my firend's bike that evening!

Fast forward Sunday and Monday here I was, back in Chennai.

Went to Mahavir on Monday at around 10.30 AM and asked for the spares which I had enquired over phone.

He sent a guy outside to get it to shop. This guy never seemed to return for quite a long time!

Meanwhile, got spares for Ilango's Accent, my drive belt & Accelerator Cable too. Since it was getting late for office went to another shop my mechanic suggested.

Rishaab Auto Spares (G.P.Road) - He said he will be able to get it by Tuesday for Rs.3,800 (1000 rupees less than my previous shop's quote)

So, paid here and asked him to parcel the part to pondy by Bus.

Total Expenses:
Tensioner Assembly : Rs.3,800/-
Drive Belt : Rs.600/-
Accelerator Cable : Rs.275/-

Total Rs.4,700/-

Current Status: Spares have been parcelled to Pondy and are in transit. Will be fit to my car tomorrow hopefully.

Meanwhile, had my AC vents cleaned today (thanks to ilango for arranging this) but it will take one more day to clean the air-con setup fully.

Hoping to get my car back in form when I go to Pondy on Saturday.

Phew! So much happened in one day , it would have been damn frustrating!

So will the China make be worth the money?
Ya it was! but learnt few more things about car and also visited a authorised car service centre for the first time! So it was ok!

reg the tensioner assembly, this China make cost me 4400 + labour would cost me only 5000 max whereas OE would have cost 20,000 bucks. SO, my plan is to check the setup once in a while at the garage. I would be visiting Ilango's almost every week!

If it serves well for 2 plus years, I will be happy

Gokul & Dhaya these Ford ASS are always like this. I took my ikon there a few months back and asked their mechanics to drive it and report the problems. Here is the list that i got from them and their cost:

Clutch plate & Cover Assembly and Release Bearing : 12000 bugs
All 4 wheel bearing change: 5000 * 4 = 20000 bugs
A/C cooling coil: 11000 bugs
Full suspension rework on all 4 wheels: 12000 * 4 = 48000 bugs
Tensioner Bearing: 8000 bugs
Normal Service (Includes Oil change and filter's change) = 4000 bugs + Brake pads & Wheel Cylinder extra.

Total : 1 lakh 3 thousand + Labour + VAT.[frustration][frustration]

From that day i made up my mind never to take my car for any activity in Ford ASS. Best part is that i changed all the said parts and even more than that for around 35000.
