Satan,

I too own a ikon but it is a 1.3 2000 model. I hve done all the mechanical overhaul only last week. Will post my experience in a different thread.

I too had this crazy dashboard noise for a long time. I went to several mechanics and even Ford dealers but none were able to point the exact problem.

Then last week my dad decided to overhaul the suspension during tht time we found out the engine bed, gearbox bed had worn out. After we replaced the same voila all the noise has got disappeared.

Ilango i guess u can help on this to satan. I am 100% sure tht dasboard noise in ikon is due to worn out bed's. Try replacing the same. Engine bed came around 800 bugs. And the gear box bed which is a hugh bush like kind of thing costs around 1500 bugs.

Thanks a lot Bharat!

Will get them checked and replaced if necessary asap. As my ICE plans are around the corner, I guess I cannot live with this vibration for long.

satan just tell me the exact problem. Is it like this:

1. Do u get vibration while driving or during idling.
2. Is sound coming from central A/C vents? If so there will be a dummy in the left side of the vent. U can tight the screw DIY.
3. Or when u start the engine or give a tap on the throttle some crazy like noise comes from corners of the dash. If u try pushing the dashboard inwards does the noise stop?

1st chk ur engine bed. I guess urs in 2001 model think tht bed must hve worn out.

You are exactly right Bharat.

The sound is due to the vibration of the Silver coulour part of the dash.
It vibrates during multiple occasions:

1) When the car starts to move/slight press of throttle.
2) When speeding on highyways also at speeds above 60kmph

When we hold it with a thumb, the vibration stops like you have mentioned.

There will be dummy attached on the left side of the silver panel. Remove the dummy with and there will a screw inside it. Check it the screw is loose and tight it. Even this doesnt solve the problem.

Then remove all the screw's attached. There will be 3 screw. One on the dummy, another two on the sppedo. Now you will be able to remove the sliver panel out. Attach some foam or waste or (some kind of sticker)on the corners of the white panel and rescrew them.

Your problem will be solved. This noise has happened due to you park the car in the sunlight the plastics in the car tend to melt due to the heat produced. It happens in all the aging cars.
