Just bought a car DVR. Paid 1500 for it. Respectable quality and loaded with features (auto on/off, motion detection, night vision, inbuilt chargeable battery, 270 degree rotating screen etc). Video quality is pretty reasonable considering the price. Waiting for the SD card to arrive. Shall post some videos over the weekend.

Naveen, did you install the DVR? Is that a reverse cam as well?

My Ecosport is also due for 2nd service. I'm just thinking about installing the DRL (Ford official accessory). Any idea about pricing?

yes, I installed it. Here's a sample video. Respectable quality. Cant ask more for a 1.5k product. No reverse cam, just acts as a DVR.

Ford DRL's cost around 15k AFAIK. Not great quality as it's not all that bright.

True its respectable quality for 1500 Rs product, how is vision at night, does the inbuilt keys have illumination? Many such units are really hard to see during night time

Night quality isnt that great. It depends on the quality/brightness of the car's headlights. Pretty ok if the streets are lit. I took a sample video yesterday. Shall post it tonight. Only the power and record buttons are illuminated. The other buttons are not illuminated.

Here's a night shot. As mentioned, video quality isnt great but can make out what's happening. Also, this was with minimal lighting.

1500km drive update:

Well, 1499.8 kms to be precise. Here's a short brief:

Route - Cochin> Chennai> Pondicherry> Cochin
Mileage - 13.6kmpl
Average Speed - 55kmph
Tyre Pressure - 33 psi

Good
1) Very stable at high speeds
2) Good braking (ABS kicks in at the right time but MRF spoiled the grip)
3) Very less cabin noise
4) Adequate power on tap
5) Decent boot space. Swallowed our huge bag, 3 small covers and a laptop bag.
6) Managed to carry 7 adults (including me). 3 passengers in the rear seat didnt complain much but when the 4th passenger was added, they werent too happy. Managed to seat 2 passengers in the front although it's not recommended but it was a short drive to drop the off.
7) High GC - Oh yes!

Bad
1) MRF - "Pathetic" under braking and during high speed cornering
2) Shocks have that thud effect while going over potholes (I took one of the worst stretch that's known to man now and had a very uncomfortable 30-40kms. Aftermarket shocks - Very seriously thinking)
3) Few squeaks from the rear. I have heard from my friend working at ford that the tail gate will start developing squeaks in the long run. It aint that strong and their test vehicles developed this problem.
4) Lack of 6th gear. Makes a huge difference to the noise insulation and mileage. (my sister drove down in her Jetta and clocked 20 kmpl - Bangalore - Chennai)
5) Lighting - I dont need to explain this as everyone knows.

I shall be uploading some videos showing the kind of road I took for this trip.

Ditto here. My Titanium(O) TDCi is in the 8th month of ownership and tailgate now makes a tak sound - not over potholes, but when taking sharp right turns. So the sound is surely from the hinge of the tailgate. No rattles anywhere else. Braking is great on highways but stop and go traffic takes a toll on FE. I got 18.9 kmpl driving with 4+1 passengers on 4 lane speedbreaker infested Mysore-Blr SH 17. But 22.3 kmpl on free-flowing 2 lane Kanakapura Road (NH 209)! Tyre pressure 33 PSI and avg speed for me was 48kmpl. All figures from MID.

Mine has Goodyear Assurance tyres which provide adequate braking on dry and wet surface, but noisy beyond 80kmph.

Paint quality : mine is blue and shows swirls but no chipping of paint. Plastic cladding has turned duller and greyish. OE leather seats are good quality and have held up really well under abuse.

Here's the report on how it all started.

PS - This isn’t the usual ownership report with alternate car choices and buying decisions that closed in buying the Ecosport. I had only one car in mind and that's the Ecosport. The ownership report will cover the comparison of my other garage rides which includes Swift, Vento, Verna.

.....
Thanks naveen for sharing your experience, i had good experience with Zest now will definitely love to try the Ford after your review.
Automotive India has really some good discussions and photos taken by you was just rocking..............

Well i love Ecosport but would love to try my hands on new Ford Fiesta as well.

Small Update:

1) Tweeter
2) Horn

Went for a basic tweeter (Soundstream) TWS .3N tweeter. Paid 2k.

Roots Windtone. I always wanted this as I had this in my Swift. The sound is too good for my liking - soft and sweet. As few pointed out in the ecosport thread asking the location of the horn on the left side, I am attaching the location where the new horn was installed. Paid 700/-

20k kms service update:

Tried the new service station this time after hearing the positive reviews from many.

Complaints reports:
1) Sound from the tail gate - Corrected (The noise is from top of the rear hatch door)
2) Sound from dash which wasnt there always (Didnt check as they will have to remove the entire dash. The noise happens very rarely so can live with it.)
3) Rear window beading was misaligned. - Corrected
4) Get quote/repair the dent on the rear wheel arch. - They quoted the rate to be close to 3.5k. Looks pretty reasonable so shall get it from them only. Maybe during the next service.

Although I couldnt meet Mr Rakesh (this guy was recommended by many) in the morning when I left the car, my SA (Mr Lino) did a good job. But I was able to meet Rakesh in the evening.

Anyways, happy with the service and with the car. This place is highly recommended.
The service was regular which took care of the engine oil, filters, brake fluid etc. The AC filter was really clogged and now there's a considerable difference in cooling.

Total Bill - 6131/-
