ok, i think i'm the first one to give negative feedback for nitrogen, I've been using Ritz from past 3-4 months with front(35psi) and rear(33psi) with normal air, last week while filling diesel noticed FREE nitrogen fill up at the gas station, so after reading a lot about nitrogen fill ups, i've filled it up.

Now my experience is the worst, even a small speed breaker feels like a huge hump, and wify comparing the car with there companies worst cab !!!
OMG, you are filling more air than required, My scorpio's recommended air pressure is 32 psi, being a 16" tyre.
But your's being 14" tyre, the tyre pressure is 29 psi, any where above 29 psi is a bumpy ride for sure.
So all these days you have been filling it with wrong tyre pressure.
And dont try to fill air as you get it filled in bike.
All the tyre's pressure should be identical.

Check for recommended tyre pressure, which will be on driver side door.(It would be mentioned in PSi)

To fill nitrogen ,1st they should remove moisture from existing normal air by creating vaccum, then fill it with Nitrogen.

Try this and let me know, once you fill with nitrogen, how frequently you will be visiting bunks for air.

Trust me you won't complaint against nitrogen.

mukeshus: The recommended tyre pressure for Ritz is FRONT(35psi) and REAR(33psi). i've even double checked it with Maruti service. To be precise I've 34psi in front and 32/33 in rear as reported by TPMS...

Couple of weeks back when I filled fuel at my regular pump - IOC HSR layout, the owner started to convince me to fill nitrogen and told me that it was free including the initial fill up for fueling over 1000 bucks.

I agreed and did the initial fillup for all the five tyres - removing the air completely and filling up nitrogen. Took quite a while.

Kept the air pressure at the recommended 32 PSI for all the five tyres.

My observations.

Ride was noticeably bumpier. (Usually I fill 34 psi for air.) So I expected the ride to be atleast the same as with air.

Last week when I went for refueling, I again filled nitrogen, and found that all the 4 tyres had lost 3 psi of pressure in two weeks.

This is comparable to filling air.

But as Mukeshus said, I have not gone on a long highway drive to see if the tyres get heated up.

Conclusion

Personally, I find no difference in the pressure retaining capacity of nitrogen.

The ride is much smoother with air than Nitrogen.

The only Advantage I see is saving of 5 bucks that I save while filling nitrogen (because it is free and for air I tip the guy doing the filling).

I will continue for a few more fills and then if no improvement, will switch back to air.

Nitrogen never every makes rides smoother , bumpier ,etc as claimed by seller to increase the sales.

Its just for safety issues.like lesser heated , less chance for tyre burst , comparatively or marginally improves tyre life

I learnt in school that air is aroud 70% nitrogen!
so why pay extra for nitrogen in tyres..
get air for free at petrol stations![;)]:stupid:

that 30% oxygen , heats up .

Due to less heating , by filtering oxygen and filling complete nitrogen , the life of tyre increases.
safety increases due to less chance of bursting , even you overfill to some extent.

Guys I had a detailed discussion with one of my friend who works in TATA motors. Altough he is not a Automobile engineer he has gained a large knowledge base in this part. What he conculded that filling Nitrogen air in our personals cars shall make no much difference. The reasons discussed were -
1. There are no such stations which gives you 100 % pure Notrogen. Moreover since the atmosphere has 78% of Notrogen the one you get at stations has almost 82 % of Nitrogen & remaining normal air.
2. in order to test the Nitrogen effect in your personal car you need to run the car to such an extent that the car tyres tempartures are incresed in such a manner that you get 8 + PSI points tyres air pressure which is no way possible in normal cars. to check this he has asked to do simple excersie. Take 2 car of same make & load the tyres with 30 PSI in all tyres one with Nitrogen & the other one with normal air. Let the 2 cars travel on highways with the same speed , load etc for say 3-4 hours & then check the tyre pressure in both the car. The max difference you can find would be on 1/2 PSI which ideally do not justify the Nitrogen filling reason.
These air are suited only in flights / heavy trucks whose friction is too more than our normal cars. There are people whoi says that there ride are too smoth after putting Nitrogen air is just becasue they have spend Rs 100 instead of Rs 20 for air :).
Conclusion is to get filled with normal air from reputed shop every month :) Please Note that even in countries like Dubai where in the day temprature is too hot the cars tyres run on normal air & not on Nitrogen air.
Its your money. Think wise before spending :)

mukeshus: Here is the pic of Maruti's recommended tire pressure

Also, I've driven 350km yesterday to our native, the temperatures are around 35c for front and 45c for Rear. no idea why the difference between front and rear...

This thread is just a co incidence!

I just filled up nitrogen Air today for my car :)

We have a offer here in chennai only at HP bunk Anna Nagar!

If you put petrol for Rs.1000 Nitrogen filling is free :)

But even i felt a pretty well difference after i filled in nitrogen.

The car was little over steered at high speeds, may be its just my feeling !!
Recently I filled nitrogen in my alto., the ride is a little bit jumpy and a bit under steer in high speeds is it normal? or how to reduce?

You should fill the pressure recommended. I guess this is 30 PSI for Alto. Check ocne what is the pressure in your tyres

Nitrogen in Car Tyres

Guys,

I've heard that filling up Nitrogen instead of compressed air, may be helpful & is advisable for car tyres. It is said that once this is done, life of tyre increases, there is no need to check tyre pressure regularly & ride also improves!
Has anyone in this forum actually done this? Can this be done in local pumps or from dealerships only? Is the cost around Rs.250?

Cheers

Jazzy

There’s a long debate over this. Your thread has been merged. Please check the previous pages of this thread which would be of some help.
