But As far as my memory goes, I have read it some where that all Indian cars have +5 KMPH error. This is rule being enforced by Indian Govt on all car companies in India.

But what purpose does it solve, though its 165+ if its true.
I dont know if it is GOI rule or to serve any purpose ,but I guess its error due to smaller wheel size , Punto in west accomodates 16 and 17 inches fiat might have used same odo settings without any change.
Purpose is simple, when you think you are cruising at 100 kmph, you are actually cruising at 95kmph. So taking into considerations that everyone in India follows the speed limit for particular road, you are always driving 5 kmph lesser speed than what you are assuming.

That is really foolish, to tamper with global standards. Then why not make it + 20 or more kmph it would be safest deal.

I know it is foolish, but across the internet many people notifying same 5kmph speedo error for different 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers. If you want , you can google for "5kmph speedo error in India". It will give more results for the same.

You can check it by using GPS system to check the current speed and then comparing the same with the speed on ODO. ![[;)]](https://www.theautomotiveindia.com/forums/images/smilies/Wink.gif "Wink [;)]")

Ohh! So people have done 180+ Kmph in Swifts & ritz means there is more error in Maruti's ODO, is this what you want to say? 
btw its clear in above post, the odo error is contributed by wheel sizes. Lets not go further Ot.
