So the union budget is over just now.... There is no change for automobile industry except he excise duty on SUV which is hiked from 75% to 100%. This is not applicable to ecosport [:)]

So guys we might here the big news anytime from now... fingers crossed... [clap]

EDIT: My bad. Looks there is 3% hike on SUV's.

Wrong. Duty hiked for imported luxury cars from 75 to 100%.

Duty on SUV (non Taxi) rises from 27% to 30%.

All SUVs will be impacted even if manufactured in India.
BTW, how does the govt define a SUV ? Any idea if Ertiga will come under SUV ? I think it would, but I hoping it does not.

100% correct. Wrong info read from TOI, later they edited it.
Yes its now very important to know the Indian govt. definition for a SUV. If more than 4m lenght is a criteria in defining a SUV then prospective buyers like us are in profit. I see this is the only criteria which might or might not favour ecosport to be a SUV as per govt. standards.

any other thoughts???

I am guessing a non Car ( non hatchback, non sedan and more than 4m ?)- then Ecosport and Quanto will be safe ?.

Plus some minimum engine power ??

or Only Diesel consuming vehicle in addition to all of the above ? (1 clue is- the FM specified "non taxi" taxi are diesel based only).

So my guess is,
1. More than 4m in length
2. More than 1600 cc
3. Diesel

I believe SUV's which are bigger dimensions in length, breadth, engine capacity(above 2 litres) seating capacity etc will come under the tax revision. Ecosport will escape this in all factors. But if Govt has a different definition for SUV, Ecosport will be affected.

Friends correct me if my statement sounds false.

Somehow I feel ecosport might be safe from this 3% hike.

Reasons:
1. Length is within 4m.
2. 1L engine. (if engine power counts its way less than a basic hatch but its a turbocharged engine which might not be in criteria list.)
3. Seating capacity is 5 only. In a traditional SUV its always more than 5.

If at all Ford waiting for the budget news yes, its here now and I feel it might take couple more days for Ford to come up with the pricing confirmation. I think we should be patient. On the other hand if the delay is nothing to do with the budget then its a matter of concern. Duster price has gone up around 70K, all other auto manufacturers increased the price during Jan. So we are the loosers.[frustration]
Moment I get any hint that its not budget I will be out of this wait [evil]

Wonder weather Ecosport falls under the so called SUV bracket, if yes then it will play a major role in it's pricing.

Ecosport will not fall under this hike for SUVs. SUV criteria are (capacity >1500cc) & (Length > 4m) & (GC >170mm).
