Sales figures doesn't matter to me. I don't think that high sales figures means that the car is good. A good example will be Chevrolet Optra Magnum 2.0 TCDI. When it was launched in 2007 the car was best in its class and still had comparatively very less sales.

The end of Zen was pathetic,Maruti was forced to slash its price and it was sold at the end on even 70000k discount.
I bought 2 at that time for my business purpose and i do agree that it was a good car.
Oh! great to read this , you availed 70000 Rs discount offer inspite of knowing that zen D was a low seller and was on the verge of discontinuation. And these Rs 70000 must have been helpful to counter balence the future loss to be incurred on the resale value.

Not ZenD Bro it is ZenP not on 90's but on 2006/07 when the last set was sold out.

Buying something means keeping it at that time , this decision can change later on. But at the time of purchase number of sales doesn't matter.

Why would people buy Rolls Royce or a Lamborghini Aventador knowing that were made only few.

Personal choice.

For me my favorite , its once a Skyline, always a skyline

R33's stopped production in 98 ,didn't affect my decision to buy

My thoughts on the matter at hand!

If you ask whether I will choose a car with higher sales between two cars which are equal in all respects, well, I will not use that as a measure.

However, having chosen a car, I certainly agree that its sales figure would certainly boost up my confidence that probably the company which has sold so many pieces of that model in this country will continue to support it for a long time!

When I had narrowed down on Honda Jazz (before finally going in for a City), the Jazz sales figures certainly had me worried a little but not enough to allow it to dissuade me from it. Its another story that Jazz was ultimately rejected based on engine performance vis-a-vis City during my test drives.

Bottom line - Sales figures 'MAY' be one of the considerations when narrowing down my cars but it would have no VETO powers, that is, I wouldn't reject a car just based on sales figure. Confusing thought??[confused] And with that thought, I am still wondering which way do I vote?! I guess I will go wih a NO!

Yeah, I will consider the sales figure when I purchase a new car. But definitely, my decision wont be that simple to follow only those sales chart.
In India if you are setting preference for sales chart for buying new car, you will probably end up buying a Maruti car. In my case I will consider Maruti as a second option because they are too common in Indian roads.

Totally agree with you man!
Sales figure should help in deciding between two cars such as Jazz and City as you wrote.
But you should have voted 'Yes' [evil]

An Yes will rarely happen as they will be considered with the herd, the lazy herd that do no research on buying a car and just following the sales figures,
A person considering sales figures as a part of decision making will also vote a NO and if YES then he have to be prepared to answer another WHY ?

If i was a first time buyer - I would certainly be looking at the sales chart before parting with my hard earned money as it would lessen the risk of going wrong in the buying decision.

But in practical day to day life as someone rightly pointed out, if two cars are almost equal on merit, sales figure won't matter to someone like me. I would put down my money on something my heart says Yes and not to what the common Tom Dick n Harry are buying. Plus everyone should buy a car which suits there requirements better and should not blindly follow where the crowd is going.

For instance - one of my female cousin bought a Hyundai i20 magna diesel last july, when her only requirement was a hardly 10kms run daily. Her car has run just 3.5k kms in close to 9months now. A petrol would have been any day a wiser decision, but just going with the herd mentality, went for a diesel. Don't really know if she ever would recover her initial extra investment for a diesel.

For us, my Dad bought Fiesta Classic in 2011 just because he was in love with his previous Fiesta 2006 model which had started showing off its age by then.Sales chart, Duh!! Who gives a damn! He didn't even look as to what the competitors were offering.

Same year we bought the just launched Hyundai fluidic verna petrol over the Numero Uno in petrol segment "Honda City" just because the latter was way too common on the road.(Every person has his/her own way of thinking[:D])

When i got my Polo in 2012, there were like a hundred people who must have asked me why not a Swift or i20 for the same price. I was like sure that's what differentiates me from you. Pun intended! On a little funnier side, its more like if I love Golden Retrievers, why would i go buy a Dalmatian just because most of my neighbours have one.

For me its straight forward, If you love something,go for it. You won't go wrong in the long run by God's grace. Happiness is all that matters.

But not every car owner is a car enthusiast too.Majority are not.I would say more than 90% are not. So for someone who thinks about cars as just a daily commute or maybe a dying investment(as most of my relatives do), its better to look at the sales chart and get what others like them are buying and get more bucks in return than the pleasure of owning one's fantasy machines.

P.S. - No offence meant to any other car owners, just my views.

Yeaah..I know what you are saying but the title of the thread is 'Does Sales Figures of a Car Influence Your Buying Decision?'
What I want to say is, yes definitely it would help me making decision but I will not buy just because its in top of the list. I think we needed more options instead of 'Yes' 'No' [cry]

Nothing serious to worry about just my point [evil]

Indian brother the thread was just started to discuss and put across points why it matters and why it doesn't.
The intention was not to call people who follow sales chart in buying a car herd mentality at all , or in anyway suggest them to buy market duds/ or low selling cars . as some members are thinking or *maybe *assuming .

then there was a request

Why don't you guys add a poll with 'yes' and 'no' options to the thread?
@Raja

Bro can you add a poll on this thread?

And so the poll and the options were added only after request was made .

No problems Raja, seems like lot of thought went in to it. It's definitely a good point of discussion.

Sales figures do reveal confidence in the overall package-,,Maruti and now Hyundai..Mahindra
A few years ago..Tata Indica V2 -ask any taxi driver and [:)]-well sorted out for the price and return on investment-however confidence mostly with that segment of buyers ( some effect did wear off on private buyers.)

However perceptions change so fast-the Sumo seemed to bury the old M&M UVs. now the Sumo seems to be at the receiving end of M&M-
I think the quality of the product, ASS ultimately spread by word of mouth and the wise indian buyer usually gets it right-my take-sales figures are a good indication of a safe package-thats what i want now[:D]
