If the JB zen was still there, then no one would have preferred the alto, because it was one awesome machine, looked sporty like the nostalgic suzukis used for sports, and somewhere in the 90's or so MS brought in diesel Zen which was flawed because then people needed comfort and smoother petrol engines, by any chance if they bring it now, I'll dash into the showroom to book it.[roll]
+100, Zen diesel is not a flaw sir, we still have 2001 Zen D running absolutely fine with some 20+ FE[:)] already crossed 1.5Lac km

Rightly said. Zen diesel was not flawed, BUT its competition (Indica, Palio, Uno) were better. My neighbor had one. The dbs it produced, though better than Ford Ikon 1.8d, was on a higher side. Indica Diesel felt like a petrol car in comparison.
BUT it had unmatched FE and reliability (I think).

Yes Navnit,

Our Zen D, we bought it in 2007 for Rs.1.3L with ODO of 70k and within these 5 years the ODO reached some 1.6L km and it completely run in village side on all types of bad roads(no roads some times) and still it is effortless driving and no single reason to sell it. It carry lot of rice bags, pesticides in its boot and 2nd row always

I totally agree that you are driving a car for your pleasure not for the outsider.
I feel anyone who has bought a car which got discontinued with in short time would feel bad internally. I don't know what will be the spares availability and the service. Generally once discontinued you will get a neglected response from service section. Even they can hike up the prices(spares) saying its now not manufactured here, we have to import it etc etc.
But I do feel bad for Jazz whenever I see one on the road now just as you felt for Fusion, but at the end, should have bought it?, No I would say 'Thank god I did not buy it'.
But please note this is my take on this, that's all[roll]
Buddy, your bad feeling about the availability of spares does matter for an ultra low selling cars practically but not legally .
But , for moderately selling cars , there is neighther practical nor legal problem.

And top sellers such as wagonr mpfi, zen mpfi , dzire etc. have also been discontinued.

Bro i disagree with you, people were bored with Zen and its pricing and when Maruti launched Alto in a cheaper price with same facilities People ditched Zen and went after Alto.
The end of Zen was pathetic,Maruti was forced to slash its price and it was sold at the end on even 70000k discount.
I bought 2 at that time for my business purpose and i do agree that it was a good car.

The diesel engine from suzuki (they tried with esteem too) was not that good and successful and that was one of the reason people hesitated to buy SwiftD at the time of its launch and it moved on with its performance and reached this level, the best seller.

@Raja
Bro i will try convince him to buy Base model swiftD (if budget is his prob) with the mileage and the petrol/diesel pricing and on re-sale.
Honestly, this easily works.

Alex bro , do you mean if someone's requirement is for petrol yet you will suggest them diesel car ?

Btw- my running is just 300 Kms per month so I don't want a diesel car and iam against buying a diesel car since I don't like diesel car .

Iam asking you a very simple and specefic question in petrol car which will you suggest me among swift , brio, liva , sail UVA , figo , polo , micRa , pulse , fabia and why ?

On the above mentioned reasons i will recommend a diesel car only.
And if the Diesel/petrol price levels and if a petrol car delivers the same mileage as diesel delivers and still, if the petrol car cost is less than a diesel car then i may suggest a petrol car.
I had posted this on many other threads bro.

But as per the reviews and your posts on ecosportP i would like to experience it.

Thanx a lot bro for telling us that no matter what you only suggest diesel cars irrespective of the buyers choice of fuel , and Kms usage per month even if it is as low as 300kms .

If sales figure alone needs to be considered then it is a NO for me. I have a fabia purchased in 2008 Apr and I am happy. But I think I would give it a thought if the car has been in the market for some time, but have heard not so good stories about the car like service issues or rumors of the car being discontinued in the near future.

@Pradeep, do you have any ownership thread posted on TAI, I would love to read it as I like fabia very much and could buy due to budget constraints[:)]

Sales number doesn't matter to me. I have changed several cars till date (mostly hatchback) but never bought a car by looking its sales figure.
My priorities are:
1. It has to be fun to drive the car in city.
2. Silent cabin. My present Spark is so silent inside that I can clearly hear the slight ticking sound from the loose gem in my finger ring [:)]
3. Good after sales service in my area. I always prefer ASC. Only my Padmini goes to a local mechanic :-).
4. VFM.
5. Space for 4 or occasionally 5 (for weekend holidays).

I never bothered about resale value etc. All my previous cars were sold directly to the buyers at very good price within days as they were maintained neatly.
