@AHC:
I believe that this one was avoidable. We frequently face such situations on dual carriageways. You are tailgating a bus at 80 kph and literally can't see anything ahead of the bus. Suddenly the driver takes a cut to avoid something and you find an another bus or truck or car or a pothole just in front of your vehicle; heading towards you.

If you decide to use brakes but not steering in such a situation; you are dead for sure.

Coming to the reaction; mine is also similar.

I have been planning to install a good quality dashcam in my cars too. Where are the videos stored in dashcams? Is there a DVR with hard disk like our CCTV systems or in SD cards?

If in SD cards the I guess it will record hardly a days' video.

All Videos Stored in Micro SD Cards - Maximum supported in mine 64 GB. (9 Hour of Full HD Footage without over write)

HDD storage for a Car Dash Cam is not a good idea (due to jerking and internal moving parts of HDD) - But SSD Yeah [:)] but then price will be insanely high.

1 Min FHD Video = 100MB.

9 hour full HD means we can easily have around 27-36 hours of 480p and 15-20 hours of 720p right?

Is the over writing automatic?

I guess this much is fine, let me go through the entire thread once and then will order a couple of them. BTW isn't is possible to have a dash mounted dash cam which can be thoroughly screwed to the dash at the lower end of windscreen?

Sorry 480p is not available in mine - This Video Dash Cam is not very high quality comparing today's phone. So you don't want to record in low resolution - If it is a memorable ride / driving at exotic place or scenic route.

I think expensive model / manufacturer support more resolution

Below is the format which supported by mine,

Card Cap.PNG

Is the over writing automatic?
This feature (Loop Recording) enabled by default you can turn off at your will - useful for small capacity card. Unimportant video get deleted to make new.

@ vipul - because of the high beam i couldn't see the divider. And i go by this route every other day and i too was surprised that i hit this divider :p

Yeah overwriting is automatic and you can protect any video file and it will be saved.

I don't think it's possible because in most of the camera the mount is on the upper side. You will have to first fix something on the dashboard and then fix the cam which won't be easy.

^^Thanks for your quick response buddies.

BTW I guess 1080p should be fine. 9 hours of recording is more than enough.

Isn't there any type of mounting point like we have on our DSLR cameras for fixing the camera on the tripod?

Do this type of mounting (sucker type it is I guess) hold well on bad roads or in case of sudden thuds?

No Tripod Mount Available @ Camera Body - Provided Mounting Point will be similar to Mobile Phone Holder - I think this is the standard for Cars.

This Windshield Suction Cup at some point of time going come off from the Glass (faster if direct parked under the sun) - But not easily or every day... Though product is very light & perfect for Hanging.

Yet to experience sudden thud .

Guys I found this one via a google ad on TAI itself:
Say1st.com - IEVA1080 120° FoV

What you have to say about this? For how much I can get a decent camera and what are your recommendations; if any.

To be very precise, I am not looking for one with the sucker type mounting and will be trying to find out something that can be mounted on the dash or maybe roof; even IRVM will do. If nothing found then back to sucker though

Am waiting for the price to drop further.

Was it? Last time i checked, it was 4400/-. Today lesser.

Trying for my luck to get it for 2k.

You have been using it for some time now, right? How is the night mode?

DP220 is the ideal one, but way too expensive @ 12k. [cry]

It's alrite but it isn't good in areas with no street lights. Just search blaupunkt "model number" in youtube and you will get many results. Will update if i see low prices.

the seller doesn't have any feedback for the product. and it's retailing for 1300 rs with other sellers. don't think this is a genuine listing.
moreover therr is no shipment options other than the seller's own shipping method. i saw the same link on tbhp , i hope they all get the product. we'll get to know after 30 days
