VOLVO LAUNCHES NEW RANGE OF BUSES.
Volvo on Thursday launched its new range of buses, comprising city bus and coaches, aimed at inter-State routes and cities. The expanded range of Volvo buses in India now includes three new models that are the first-of-its kind in the country and takes the company's bus range to ten different products.
Stating all of developments follow just three months after Volvo announced its ambition to be a $1-billion company in the coming years,
Volvo Bus Corporation President Hakan Karlsson said:
The Volvo 9400PX is the country’s first 14.5 metre long luxury coach with the highest seating capacity compared to other luxury coaches, offering a steered axle for better manoeuvrability while also offering more luggage space, a Pantry and a Lavatory on the bus. Also on offer, is India’s first multi-axle city bus., the 7400XL offering 55% more occupancy while reducing fuel consumption and emissions by 30%. This will be the first multi-axle bus with a steered axle being offered for city public transport. The new coach also packs a performance like never before with the new Volvo 11-litre engine with 370hp. Another key feature of the Volvo 9400PX is the Volvo I-Shift gearbox. This automatic gear changing system provides high drive & ride comfort, better fuel economy and offers high braking power of 400 to 600 kW.
For medium haulage, the 9100, that comes in with a lower initial cost, while offering Volvo’s core values of Safety, Quality and Environment consciousness. The Volvo 9100 coach is a Global introduction for Asia, from Asia. This new coach is an integral part of Volvo Buses’ ambition to drive quality of transport across the country to more & more cities and routes. The Volvo 9100 embodies the Volvo values for safety, quality and care for environment. The engine is optimized for a range of driving conditions and is backed by Volvo’s rich experience of 10 years in high performing bus applications on Indian roads. The new Volvo coach is designed to meet medium haulage applications and has been designed to take the Volvo experience to millions of new passengers. For the bus operators the Volvo 9100 presents an unbeatable business proposition in transport economy – offering excellent value in fuel efficiency, maintainability and overall operating costs. The Volvo 9100 highlights the organization’s local product development competencies. The Volvo 9100 is a global introduction, developed in Asia, starting from India. It takes Volvo buses into new market segments in the country, thereby expanding the market potential significantly.
The Volvo 7700 Hybrid that will be on display at the Auto Expo, is a commercially-produced hybrid bus model that saves upto 37% fuel while reducing emissions by 40% - 50%.

Tata is now feeling the heat of Dost and Maxximo pick-up so think they have come to this idea.

ICB reader has spotted Tata Ace DICOR near pune, they spotted a passenger and a pick up version of ACE with on-test badge on it. While the DICOR(tata speak for common rail direct injection) turbo diesel engine for the Tata Ace was always in the pipeline. From details ICB has managed to gather on the DICOR engine, the twin cylinder engine has been chopped off the 475 engine range, which in other words is the 1,405cc Indica engine. This has been done to keep development costs to the bare minimum while also ensuring that the spare parts remain common to that of the Indica’s engine for easy serviceability. The common rail direct injection system has been developed by Bosch.
Also there is another surprising news, a similar engine will be used in the upcoming Nano Diesel. Already Bosch has talked about this engine few months back "The car has a two-cylinder, 700cc engine which develops healthy power without compromising on fuel economy. Although official test figures have not been revealed, we expect it to run 40 km on one litre of diesel."
Tata Ace DICOR mini pick up truck will use a 700cc twin cylinder engine whose power and torque output will be much lesser than the Nano diesel. The same goes for NVH levels too, which are expected to be higher than on the Nano due to the Ace being an out and out commercial vehicle. However, fuel economy could get a huge boost and with that, the Tata Ace DICOR might knock the wind off a certain Mahindra Maxximo mini pick up’s sales, which already is in the doldrums.

Prima is the best looking truck that we have currently in India and pehaps the world and nothing comes close to it in terms of looks, even these DAF trucks are no where close IMO.I used to travel 20 kms off my home just to get glimse of Prima trucks on a regular basis, even though am not a commercial vehicle type guy.It won't be unfair to say that whatever interest I have in CVs, it because of Tata Prima![[:D]](https://www.theautomotiveindia.com/forums/images/smilies/Big%20Smile.gif "Big Smile [:D]")

Have patience dear Dost and maxximo has already acquired market share of Ace down south.So we can wait and watch the fun now.

Down south, Mahindra & Ashok Leyland over powers TATA. But I guess comparing Maximmo & Ace is futile as the Maximmo is much more costlier than the Ace. Ace is very basic & crude in comparison.
The competition of Maximo is actually Super Ace.

Absolutely competition is always better for the customers,but am not sure about Dost/maximo capturing Ace's market share, can you bring some specific data regarding this topic.

In Bangaluru there are also so many Puntos and Lineas, infact much more than Vista/Manza, but their position nation wise is not healthy, if AL and M&M want to take the market share of Ace, then they will have to sell pan India wise,selling in only one zone will not help,IMO.

Sorry to say but somehow the front design doesn't appeal to my eyes, it feels as if the car has been carved out in a crude form. If this is electric then it might click with old people if it isn't then we can safely think this might not click with the masses as I see this is only powered with a 200CC single cylinder engine. Might choke if people think this can be used for some weekend outings

It looks more like a Golf car....if this goes well in the market, somewhat close fight to Tata Nano though its more powerful.
