Hi,
I am facing engine troubles in my Spark. Let me know in case anyone here have faced this.
My Chevrolet Spark has covered more than 55000 kms. For some months now I am facing a very strange problem. Whenever I drop down the speed of my car and push clutch to change the gear, the engine just stops. This happens mostly on traffic signals when there is more stop-go-stop traffic. There is a little jerk before the engine stops and I again have to start the engine. I show this problem to the Chevy Service Station and they didnt have any clue about the problem . Even with oil change, the problem remains. Also another strange thing is this issue arise more frequently if I do a full tank. Once the fuel indicator go below the half way mark, I dont get this issue more frequently. This baffles me even more as I dont understand what is the relation between the engine problem and volume of fuel in my tank.
I am now thinking to show this to an outside mechanic. However if anyone has any clue to this problem, please let me know what can be done in this regards.

Sorry to know about the recent highway breakdown of sparky, I know its a nightmare when such a thing happens. Few things to point out.
Alternator service (includes bush change etc) wont be above 2000/- for a car like spark/zen/alto/waggy etc.
Different companies make alternators for same model of car - most prominent players are BOSCH, TVS-LUCAS, DENSO, Delphi etc.
I can guarantee you that the cost of alternators are high only when the alternator does multiple jobs like vacuum pump for power breaks etc.
Some examples of costly alternators are
Ikon petrol - 11,000/-
Accent - 19,000/-
Swift - 8000/-
and goes on...
You are right the coolant leakage inside cabin happens only due to faulty/rusty/leaking heat exchange unit (mini radiator type thing inside blower box). Usually this part is never replaced in most indian cars, instead a simple U bend pipe is used to redirect the coolant back to engine bay.
Again apart of demand, even price plays a major role in the availability of this part.
Example: Heat exchange unit of
M800 DX - 4500/-
Ikon - 7000/-
Escort - 11000/-
Nano - 2000+
WagonR - 5000/-
So if you are sure you dont need heater, you can skip the expense. But remember A heater is also useful when your radiator fan stops working and engine starts to heat up (like it happened in my nano), the heater unit works like a mini radiator, in that case.
Next time when you drive your car in knee deep water, make it a point to
1. drive in low gears and high rpm
2. avoid use of steering as much as possible
3. Completely switch off AC (do not switch it on)
4. If the water is very muddy/slushy, the belts in engine bay can slip and come off too.
5. Your car might have the power to wade through water, but lots of parts in the front are not capable of withstanding that much pressure.
Example: Radiator & bumper mounts, Ac condenser fins, wheel liners (mud guard type plastic in wheel wells etc).

GM India Discontinues Chevrolet Spark, Production Stopped(August 2015 article in Motorbeam).
The Chevrolet Spark has been discontinued and no replacement is planned, making the Beat hatchback GM India’s new entry-level model.

Recently had visited Tashkent in Uzbekistan, on a official trip.
Really surprised to see 99.99% vehicles are from Chevy. Out beat is called Spark (I know this earlier that in all other countries except india it is called as spark) and the more surprising part was Matiz. Its still running there and the numbers are very huge. its like our auto riksha, they that that many numbers of matiz. Both as private as well taxies.
Really surprised. Could not clarify whether the production of matiz is stopped or still on.

Friends.. Am back to my thread after a long time. Since it is after a break of 2 years, I think I have to provide an update on this two years.
In October 2016, my son learnt car driving and got proper licence. My first rule was to drive the car only after getting the licence. so on his 18th birthday first thing, I put him in driving class and in one month time he got the licence. within 2 months he started driving car easily.
Unfortunately last October he rammed sparky behind a Tata Ace who applied sudden break. Looks like my son lost control and rammed it. The entire front portion was smashed. Had to spend 45k to bring back the car to its original shape.
Even after that, there was some problem with coolant oil which used to dry very frequently. After continuous visits to the workshop (This time gave outside of ASC since the regular ASC of Chevy I used to give was closed) and found that some issue in some hose and was replaced. after that everything is cool.
As of now, it has cross 47k KMs.
it will be 7 years this October. I thought of changing the car.
Since both my son and daughter above 6, am planning for a tall boy. Do not know what it would be. This July my daughter will get the licence. I want her also get practised in Sparky before I get my next car.

Unfortunate of that incident and seeing your sparky like that sir. But these things are common with kids when they start learning, my turn is due next year(my son is eager to put his hands on my Ritz).

Best of Luck to your son. Already my daughter is in the same level. By july she start driving.
Already this is plan sir. But parking would be a problem. so i have to see.
Since Chevrolet closed its sales now, I dont think you get a great price for your Spark being 7 years old already. I suggest keep it with you as a second car and allow children to use and learn on the same. Plan a new car for your self

I think its time to change the tyres. Recently I got some kind of disturbances while driving. I assumed that there could be an issue with tyres.
When checked, found the right side front tyre was warned out. So changed the spare tyre.
But i think this is time for change of tyres. last time changed it at 25k in odo. now it is almost 29k. So i thought of changing tyres.
Should i change all 4 tyres or only front 2. Since am planning to sell my car how to handle it.
