Friends,

I had a chance to TD Chevy Sail UVA hatch diesel today where my neighbor is Chevy workshop so they put up a small sales camp today.

  • It looks really awesome and has good space
  • Excellent interiors with good integrated music system
  • has tilt steering adjustments, good dash
  • Ac performance is really excellent, gear shift is very tiny and short
  • I have to appreciate something really is its suspension, its awesome ride quality
  • Pick is good and braking is also good with ABS
  • Power windows performance, split seat at rear and good boot space.
  • Looks from outside were really impressive and I liked a rear design
  • Steering feel is good and a good turning radius too
  • No problem at speed beakers at all.
  • NVH levels were ok, as I am already used to this Fiat engine in Ritz.
  • Low end torque found to be good, horn is also good.

Two things were put me in thinking was

1. Its metal sound while closing the door, its not like a good thud sound like other cars example, swift, Ritz. May be metal used is bit thin.

2. Driving seat was not offering complete thigh support, may be this is due to my long legs, I found the same problem in XUV,Figo too. But my Ritz is bit ok, may be because its high seating position and seat length and angle.

May be the above case is only experienced by a fellow having little long legs(not tall overall), but for others this may not be a problem.

On the whole it offers a mouth watering 3 years warranty overall and 5 year warranty on engine. They said this is only the initial offer on engine later on it may change.

The base level diesel OTR in Hyderabad is 7.03L which has everything what we generally require.
The sedan base level is at 7.4 L OTR Hyderabad

Overall I am satisfied with it and suggest to prospective buyer as very good hatch back in that segment with such Chevy assurance on warranty. Mileage quoted was 21km/ltr in standard test conditions and reported by owners was 18km/ltr in city.

Nice and crisp review Gurralla sir,I had chance to look the UV-A yesterday when i visited times auto show in Bangalore, I was not impressed with the interior color theme as it looked much boring, and the rear seats did not give much of comfort like it is in Swift and Vista the price is in PAR with the competition no worries but the sales should pick up fast.

@Vishwas

I agree with your findings of interior, but as I am used to the black interiors in my Ritz every day, so they might have looked different to me[:)].

Yes, the comfort is not like Vista for sure !! but again its a Chevy badge car and with that kind of warranty and reasonably good space inside and the ride comfort is really good. So we really have to see how the sales go for this

Thank you Sethu,

Yes, I found this thigh support problem in most of the sedans as their low seating postion and if I have to be comfortable a bit is Ritz, but I am on a search of good thigh support in my next car for sure !! because it is very important to me

Very nice crisp review and excellent photos too. Sail UVA is a very good car.. perhaps a tad overpriced. A little discount on the current price would make it VFM.

Chevrolet Sail Hatchback Gets a Price Cut. Bids Goodbye to U-VA moniker

Chevrolet has slashed prices for the Sail U-VA hatchback. The hatchback’s earlier starting price of Rs 4.44 lakh (ex-showroom, Thane) for the base 1.2-litre petrol variant has now been revised to Rs 4.19 lakh for all models produced in 2013. There is also an additional discount of Rs 3,000 being offered for all corporates on models produced this year.

Additionally, 2012 models of the U-VA are being offered with an additional discount of Rs 25,000 on both petrol and diesel variants, bringing the starting price down to Rs 3.94 lakh.

Thank you for sharing your views on the Chevrolet Sail. Do share some more pics of the ride.

Spotting this car in the traffic is pretty usual these day which proves that Chevrolet is doing decent sales, though i must admit the Sedan version appears mroe VFM than the hatch sibling.

It is interesting to see a price cut within 6 months of a car launch. Did Chevy overprice it in the first go? Is the cut only for Hatchback or sedan will also get a similar treatment. Or, is it an effect of Tata price cut ?[surprise]

Cheers,
Anshuman

@Gurrala: When I was looking for my Spark replacement last year, I did a cost benefit analysis for the recently launched Sail. Since my requirements were to have ABS/Airbags, price of the LT model was coming very close to Swift ZDI. And at that price point, Swift was a no brainer. I told this very clearly to the SE who had shown me the car. The problem with the initial pricing approach was that GM targeted Swift as competitor instead of Figo. And that's where they went wrong.
Had they revised the prices in January, I would definitely have given the Sail a re-look , since my experience with Spark & GM ASS had been great.

+100 chayan,

Yes, now they might look bit competitive with new prices. But believe me the ride comfort was really excellent for me when I compare my Ritz ride which is bumpy often.
