Tata Aria - 383
Mahindra XUV5OO - 3196

Tata Aria has yet another consecutive flop month with the Aria, when Mahindra is having a ball with the XUV5OO, which sells 8 times as much as it's competitor.

Mahindra Scorpio - 4394
Tata Safari - 1802

Scorpio has not been affected by the XUV, as was predicted. Infact, it bettered it's previous figures. Safari lies low again.

Toyota Innova - 6765
Mahindra Xylo - 2805

Toyota Innova is still the leader of this segment, consistently selling more than 6k units for the past 3 months. Xylo sells an average 2800 units.

Tata Sumo + Victa + Grande - 3631
Mahindra Bolero - 10078

The undisputed king of this segment - Bolero. 10k units!!! All 3 Sumos could not come near the Bolero. Imagine one car selling more than 3 times as much as 3 models combined!

Polo - 3940
Punto - 954
Figo - 7073
Swift - 20521
Micra - 1674
Fabia - 770
Indica + Vista - 11420
Liva - 4034

Wow! Look at the Swift's figures - beating the competition black & blue! Another flop show by Punto & Fabia. Since, I dont have separate figures for Vista, cant really judge how well it did. Personal guess says - it dint. Most of that numbers come from Indica.

Pretty sure 80 to 90 percent of these cars sold were diesels & more than 50% of them are the fiat diesel multijet engines ,sadly cant say the same for Fiat sales, atleast Punto sold 954,i remember seeing some thing around 200 in December i think.

Anybody have any idea about Renault Pulse(reworked diesel Micra)?

Seems like Swift is on the way to face Alto, the growth rate is rocketing, It wouldn't be a surprise if Swift comes to the top position and thanks for the rising petrol prices.

Thanks Raj quite astonished to see the numbers XUV is doing, i dont think any manufacturer could have predicted this segment to be so big to sell over 3k units a month(tht too for the XUV in restricted production and booking lottery) - its selling more than all other vehicles put together in that segment/price. i must admit i myself underestimated this segment - in india VFM will never go unrewarded, hope all the manufacturers are paying attention to this all important factor. I would be keenly observing what happens once the initial hoopla and backlog is cleared.

True. Now, after the price hike, the top end XUV sells at 16.5 Lacs on road in Mumbai & 17.5 Lacs on road in Bangalore.

Mahindra has shown the market the "formula for success" in this segment. Also, it was a tight slap on the face of critics who, after the lukewarm response of the Aria, claimed that Indian manufacturers cannot sell cars above 10 Lacs.

About Aria, if an XUV can sell for 17 Lacs, so can an Aria. But it does not. So, even price is not the issue for Aria. It is the brand image... and that's a fact.

Yes you are somewhat right,
If XUV has a badge of Maruti than???
or a badge of Toyota than???

I guess if it adorns a Toyota badge and was available in sufficient units it has the capability to beat the mark of 10k per month. but not with mahindra badge. Isnt it?

Same goes for Kizashi, had id worns a badge of Toyota or Honda it would have done atleast 200 - 300 units per month.

Comparo of Xylo v/s Innova
Can we not call XYLO a flop product as it sold only 2.5K units as compare to Innova 6.5K (restricted due to production capabilities)

Comparo of Safari and Scorpio

Safari 100% personal usage
Scorpio (15% Taxi+30% Semi taxi & Personal+remaining personal usage)

Bolero vs Sumo

Bolero all models (DI+Bolero+XL+Pick UP) Serves the purpose of pvt taxi in rural area and reliable vehicle (hats off to this UV)
Sumo (all models) Mainly consumed by Taxi and over a time will need to prove its metal in rural areas of India.

But in this hoopla we forget to catch the FLOPPEST PRODUCT OF MAHINDRA named as VERITO

Now Lets say VERITO V/s INDIGO or MANZA
Plz give me the figures of VERITO as iam unable to get those and compare it to its competitior. Now thats what i call a flop product. Even a modest price, space, milage and out of this world M&M service is unable to get the people to buy this. Now any replies on this???
Infact Verito suits much better in Taxis but still people are not just buying it.

Swift around 20K

Now the main reason is running of MAruti plant to its full capacity to produce swift and clear the backlog, they can keep this momentum for the next 3-4 months to clear the backlog of around 70K of swifts. Will see the figure after July 2012 for swift. But no doubt a fantastic product. As iam occasionaly driving my friends diesel swift.

Infact if we compare all others models i can see only one winner and that is Honda Brio, despite being a petrol only hatch it is manage to get the figure of 6000 units, not even swift come closer to that.
Next is Indica and Vista, sooper numbers again this month.

To a manufacture it matters the least if a car runs as taxi or for private use.end of the day it is returns which counts.

AFIK mahindra has not set it for full production,so the measly numbers.
Now please do not say that same applies to Tata also , that will make me LOL.

True ,very true.
Else there was so much of nonsense rumours that "Indian mindset is not matured","Indians prefers only small cars" etc blah blam blah

+100 for Honda brio its really shocking to see inspite having only petrol version it is doing decent numbers it shows how much we Indians trust and believe the reliability factor from Honda [clap]btw urban titanium brio looks hot .

Ta................
This again proves that once a product is launched with a high price tag it becomes super difficult for the company to sell it even after discounts because people just tend to ignore it completely case in study versa, baleno, aria , and the new ford feista .
Itwill be really difficult for tata to get the numbers for aria even if they price it aggressively now because it creates a feeling that before tata was just trying to cheat by asking more money .
Xuv was launched with super vfm price and now every year if mahindra increases the price still it will sell in good numbers ( until some more vfm product comes in the market by some reputated car maker )because it has already made a strong association in people's mind that it is a vfm product .
Tata has lost the battle with aria though being a very very good product .

The best part is, people will buy Xuv just for fun too and sell it off within couple of months without having much damage to pockets. within short period Xuv attracts very decent resale value adding to impeccable success .

the way Mahindra created the buzz and the way Mahindra continues it is the secret behind all.

BTW I do not appreciate such marketing tactics, it is cheap and immoral like Pawn broker business, but overall if people are happy let it be.

No, Indians prefer big cars, and thats the reason why we are seeing tremendous increase in numbers of JLR, AUDI, BMW etc. Also Fortuner, XUV, ARIA, Safari and Scorpio sells in India in a good number.

Woww... Exciting month this has been for auto.

Fruitful month for maruti with 40% of market share. The swift is back with a bang.
Alto is still at the same number.1 position in its segment. A-star has taken the beating this time with just 700 odd units. Dezire is doing the magic for the past 2 months with 16K units. Kizashi also have come up with more than 2 fold of its sales this month with 48 units compared to 14 unit last month.

Asusual month for ford. Figo is doing decent numbers. Endy couldn't stand couple of months and the count came down to just 26. Fiesta classic is doing decent with 130 units. Pricey new ford fiesta is still in a dull mode and there is no much catch in here.
