No, your Apple iPhone won’t expire in 3 years

Apple had raised many eyebrows when it on its environmental policy’s QnA section revealed expected life cycle of its products. Surprisingly, Apple revealed that the life cycle for the iPhones and Apple Watch was up to three years whereas OSX and AppleTV devices had four years of life cycle. The revelation was widely interpreted that Apple’s devices did not have a long life. Now, Apple has clarified that it expects the first owner of an iPhone or Apple Watch to use the device for at least three years, and the device to last much longer.

Apple hikes iPhone prices by steep 29%

NEW DELHI: Apple has increased prices of iPhones in India. The surprise revision in retail prices comes at a time when the company's new device SE got a poor response and managed to sell only a few thousand units. And, the hike is as steep as 29% for the iPhone 6 device.

Sources said Apple decided to withdraw some of the discounts offered in January-March 2016 period. "It was felt that SE, which was criticized for having a 'high price tag', will not be able to see much traction if prices of bigger-sized iPhone 6 and 6S devices are not corrected. So, the decision was taken to revise the price upwards," a source said.

While 16GB version of 4-inch SE made its debut at Rs 39,000, a similar specced (16GB) version of iPhone 6 is available at Rs 31,000 and 6S at Rs 40,500. "After the revision, iPhone 6 costs Rs 40,000 and 6S comes for Rs 48,000. We are trying to build a healthy buffer," the source added.

Now that the iPhone SE has launched, all eyes are now set on the Apple iPhone 7. Reports continue to trickle in, and the latest one claims that Apple could launch not two, but three new iPhones altogether. Along with a Plus variant, the iPhone 7 will be accompanied by a 5.5-inch Pro variant. If true, this could be the first time Apple launches three iPhone variants together.

As per a tip received by Mobipicker, Apple has already started production of three iPhone 7 variants, called iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 7 Pro. While details are scarce, the iPhone 7 is expected to come with a 4.7-inch display, while the other two variants are expected to come with 5.5-inch displays.

Apple Unveils Host of Software Improvements at WWDC 2016

HIGHLIGHTS

*Apple is letting Siri work with applications made by other companies.
*Apple Music is getting a new interface.
*Apple is making it easier to use Apple TV with a new version of its tvOS.

Apple kicked off its annual software developer conference with an artificial intelligence upgrade for Siri, its digital assistant, as well as new software features for other devices and an overhaul of its music service.

CEO Tim Cook opened the event with a moment of reflection for the Sunday mass shooting in Orlando, Florida. He called the shooting a "senseless, unconscionable act of terrorism and hate aimed at dividing and destroying," and noted that Apple makes a point of celebrating its diversity before asking the crowd to rise and take part in a moment of silence.

Making Siri smarter
Artificial intelligence, personified by the wisecracking Siri, is starting to play a larger role in Apple's future plans.

On Monday, Apple announced that the voice-controlled assistant will work on Mac desktop and laptop computers, where it can locate files and perform other feats. Siri will also gain new capabilities with Apple TV, where it will let you launch live TV viewing with voice command and search YouTube and the iTunes store for videos.

Perhaps more important, Apple is letting Siri work with applications made by other companies. The change will open up new ways for Siri to help iPhone owners get things done more quickly.

Such AI features are emerging as a major new tech battleground, one where Apple is racing to catch up with other virtual assistants from Google and Amazon. Amazon's assistant, Alexa, is enjoying a surge in popularity, partly because it works well with a variety of other applications.

iPhone 7 Release Date, Specifications, and All Other Rumours

HIGHLIGHTS

*Apple iPhone 7 is expected to come with a Smart Connector.
*The antenna bands may shift to the top and bottom edges.
*The larger variant is tipped to sport a dual camera setup.

Apple suppliers Foxconn and Pegatron are mass hiring workers urgently, leaks are flowing in full force, and the iPhone 7 countdown has officially begun. The most anticipated smartphone of the year is scheduled for its traditional September release, but the rumour mills have already begun toiling relentlessly to give us even the tiniest pieces of information.

Gathering from these leaks, the iPhone 7 is not expected to see any major design tweaks, except for a minor few. However, there are some significant changes that are worth a mention. We compile all the rumours and leaks that have surfaced online so far, and give you a comprehensive list of all that is expected to come with the iPhone 7 this year.

Three variants
In 2013, Apple released two iPhones for the first time - the iPhone 5s and 5c. The following year saw a major design overhaul with Apple ditching its 4-inch smartphone size entirely, and releasing two smartphones in different sizes, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. Last year, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were released with software upgrades. However this year, Apple is reportedly taking it a notch further and is tipped to launch three variants namely iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the iPhone 7 Pro/Plus Premium.

32GB base storage variant
Apple is rumoured to finally be doing away with the 16GB base storage variant, and replacing it with a 32GB option. The company first introduced the 16GB variant in 2008, and it has remained as the base model ever since the iPhone 5 in 2012. With the rise of the app culture, alongside 4K recording capabilities, this shift to a 32GB base model makes sense in more ways than one.

Apple releases iOS 10 public beta, here’s how to install it on supported iPhones and iPads

Apple unveiled iOS 10 at WWDC 2016 last month, and the beta version of the OS was open to registered developers almost immediately. Now however, Apple has released iOS 10 public beta, which as the name suggests lets anyone to try it out. One doesn’t need to be a paid developer, and the only criteria is having a supported iOS device. Here’s a list of supported iOS devices along with a step-by-step guide on how to install it.

Let’s first start with the devices that are compatible with iOS 10. These include iPhones like the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. iPads like the iPad Pro 12.9-inch, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad 4th generation, iPad 3rd generation, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, and the iPod touch 6th generation.

Following is a step-by-step guide on how to install iOS 10 public beta on any one of the above devices.

The first step involves heading to Apple’s public beta website using Safari on your iOS device and logging in using your Apple ID. Once logged in, tap on the iOS tab, followed by a tap each on ‘enroll your iOS device’ and ‘download profile’.

On the profile page, tap on the install button at the top-right corner, and then on the consent page tap on the install button again. Before the installation process is underway you will first have to reboot your iOS device. Once your device has rebooted, head over to Settings > General > Software update. When prompted, hit the download and install button to start the process of installing iOS 10 public beta on your device.

As with any kind of beta, the iOS 10 public beta too is expected to be riddled with bugs and the experience may not be silky smooth. Apple’s website too comes with the warning, and it recommends users to install the public beta on their secondary device. This is only for those who can’t wait for the final release later this year, and want to experience iOS 10 now.

That said, if you still plan to go ahead with the above steps, we highly recommend you backup all your data first. Connect your device to iTunes first and perform a backup, before you embark on testing out the iOS 10 public beta.

Apple’s iOS 10 comes with quite a few improvements and a huge bunch of new features. From an entirely revamped lock screen to the ability to uninstall preloaded apps, iOS 10 is new enough to keep users interested for a long time. Other new features that users can look forward to are storage optimization, dedicated dark mode for late night readers, RAW image capture support, a new clock app called Bedtime, in-line video playback, background music playback in camera app, and improved Apple Maps among others.
