iPhone 7 Tipped to Be Just 6.1mm Thin and Sport Stereo Speakers

Corroborating several previous reports that tipped Apple would be ditching the 3.5mm audio jack to make its next iPhone slimmer, a new report tips the iPhone 7 will be up to 1mm slimmer than its predecessor - but will retain the same design. The report adds the iPhone 7 will sport a dual-speaker setup, and a thinner cut-out for the Lightning port.

The upcoming iPhone 7 model will reportedly be 1mm thinner than the iPhone 6s, which already is 7.1mm thin, according to Macotakara. However, its metal build, height, width, and design profile will stay the same. In addition, it would not be water resistant like recent iPhone handsets.

Apple iPhone 5S to be available for just Rs 12,000?

New Delhi: One of Apple's iconic smartphone, the iPhone 5S could get a 50 percent price cut and be available for just about Rs 12,000 only.

With Apple all set to launch a new smartphone, the iPhone SE in the market on March 22, the iPhone 5S could just become a sideshow.

The 4-inch iPhone 5S has gone through a series of price cuts earlier and is available for USD 450 in the US. And with the launch of iPhone SE, reports say the iPhone 5S could get a 50 percent price discount to USD 225 in order to keep it in the market.

However, one is not sure if the price cut would be affected in India where the iPhone 5S is available for just about Rs 21,000 (16GB variant) after a series of price cuts.

But if the price cut should become effective in India, post 50 percent discount, the iPhone 5S could be available for just about Rs 12,000 in the country.

Considering that the sales of iPhones in India have gone down due to high prices, the price cut could sure revive its sale to a certain extend.

WhatsApp for iPhone Gets Fix for Bug That Took Up Unused Storage Space

WhatsApp has rolled out a new update for its iPhone app that brings crash fixes, as well as a fix for an issue that caused extra storage to be used.

Redmond pie reports that an earlier WhatsApp for iPhone update added ability to send and receive PDFs though the same update also had an issue as some users noticed the app eating up too much unused storage space. The WhatsApp update is claimed to fix the issue.

The 'What's New' section on the App Store now lists that the new update for iPhone brings the ability to send and receive pdf files - a feature that rolled out to iPhone earlier this month. The latest update allows users to choose pdf to send from third-party apps installed on the iPhone such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Microsoft OneDrive. The feature however requires iOS 8 or later.

iOS 9.1 Jailbreak Released by Pangu, New Apple TV Hack Coming This Week

For those who like diving deep into their iOS device, tinkering with settings that Apple wished you wouldn't touch, there's some exciting news for you. Chinese hacker team Pangu has released an update for its jailbreak tool, making it capable of working with iPhone and iPad running iOS 9.0 through to iOS 9.1. Furthermore, the hacking group says that it will release a jailbreak for the fourth-generation Apple TV this week.

Pangu, a hacker team that has earned name finding flaws in iOS and stuffing it with many more features, last week released a jailbreak tool for iOS devices running between iOS 9.0 and iOS 9.1. Many users are not pleased with it. Why? Because not many will be able to make use of the tool. You see, most iPhone and iPad models are already running a software version that is above iOS 9.1. Apple stopped signing iOS 9.1 in December. In fact, we are likely to see the release of iOS 9.3 later this month.

Apple iOS 9.3: Here’s how to activate Night Shift feature

Apple's iOS 9.3 update brings a 'Night Shift' feature that automatically changes the color temperature of the display based on your time and location. Follow these steps to activate the new feature.

At the iPhone SE launch, Apple also announced roll out of the iOS 9.3 update. The latest iOS brings a number of new features such as password lock for Notes, Apple Music improvements along with a number of bug fixes. Among the new features the coolest one is the Night Shift mode, which automatically changes the color temperature of the display based on time and location of your device. If you have already installed the iOS 9.3 update, here’s how you can activate the Night Shift feature.

Once you have installed the update, go to Settings. Tap on Display & Brightness. You will spot the Night Shift feature. Tap on the Night Shift to activate the feature. Apple gives you plenty of options to have the Night Shift on. One that we’d recommend is scheduling it to Sunset to Sunrise. In the morning, the display will return to its regular settings. This setting uses the iPhone’s clock as well as two-location to figure out when to activate Night Shift. You can also customize the scheduling by manually entering the time slots you prefer.

In case you don’t want to schedule it, you can quickly switch it on by tapping ‘Enable Until Tomorrow’. Apple also lets you customize the warmth intensity once the Night Shift is on.

Key things you need to know about Night Shift

Apple points out studies that say exposure to bright blue light in the evening can hurt your circadian rhythms and make it harder to fall asleep. According to researchers, exposure to light from LCD panels on smartphone can also influence hormonal fluctuations in the brain. The Night Shift feature will help deliver lesser strain on your eyes when you are using the smartphone in the night.

Prior to iOS 9.3, a third party application called f.lux was available to deliver Night Shift-like features. The app works with Windows, Macs and iOS devices.

It is worth pointing out that Google is too bringing Night Shift-like as a native feature with the Android N. Called Night Mode, the feature is available via Settings, and allows you to add warmer end of the spectrum based on location and time of day. Currently, the feature is available as part of the Android N Developer Preview.Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 also has this feature.

How to assign Customized vibration patterns on your iPhone

During office hours, while attending classes or meeting someone important, there might be chances you put your iPhone on the vibration mode. iOS has an uniform default vibration pattern for all notifications. This makes it really difficult for users to distinguish between alerts, compelling them to check each of them or skip everything. This is obviously very distracting for an user. Thankfully, iOS lets you customize vibration patterns for each type of alerts. Here’s how you can customize and assign vibration patterns on your iPhone.

First you need to launch the Settings app. Tap on Sounds and then on Ringtone. On top of the list, you will notice a section for Vibration. Enter the Vibration menu, scroll down to tap on Create New Vibration. Now tap on the center of the display in patterns you want your vibration to be set. For continuous pattern, hold your finger down on the display. For pause, lift your finger.

You can play back the pattern you just recorded to be sure it is exactly as you wanted. In case you aren’t satisfied, you can record it again, and then save it. You can set a name for each custom pattern as well.

Now go back to the previous menu, and assign vibration pattern for each alerts. For an example, you want to customize vibration pattern for text messages. Tap on Text Tone in the Sounds menu. Tap on Vibration, scroll down to choose from different custom patterns you have set.

Bonus tip: You might have noticed even when you have put your iPhone on silent, it still vibrates. Well, you can customize this by launching the Settings app. Go to Sounds, uncheck the Vibrate on Silent. You can similarly customize vibration for Ring alerts.

Ten tips to free space on your iPhone

With 64GB iPhones being considered as a luxury in India, users soon face a storage crunch after trying out various multimedia features on their 16GB iPhones. The option of not having a microSD card slot adds to the injury.

As more consumers are buying iPhones, mostly affordable 16GB versions, in the country, storage is something they learn to treasure overtime. Here are 10 best practices to never run out of GBs when needed.

-Get a Wi-Fi external storage device

For those who wish to carry lots of movies, songs, books on their iPhone, a Wi-Fi card reader or storage drive is priceless. There are several options available in Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 price range from Kingston and SanDisk.

With these, users can access their external hard drive or microSD cards wirelessly on their phones. Internet connectivity is not required.

-Back up and delete old photos

Camera photos accumulate overtime and tend to consume a lot of space. It is always a good practice to backup old photos on Google Drive or Dropbox and delete them from the device. Alternatively, this is also where the Wi-Fi hard drive will come handy.

-Delete old messages (iMessages/ SMS)

Not every old message is important. While messages may not consume GBs but they do consume noticeable amount of space, especially iMessages. It is good to delete them and make way for a new app. Also, in the Settings menu under Messages, users can 'opt out' of never delete messages automatically.

-Get rid of unnecessary apps

Apps consume a lot of real estate in any smartphone. For 16GB iPhone users, it makes no sense in keeping unnecessary apps or the ones which are hardly used.

-Delete books and download only when required again

If a user doesn't read iBooks on their phone, he or she can opt to delete it and get it again when actually required. It is always saved in iCloud for future. It helps in saving some MBs.

-Turn off "Keep Normal Photo"

In the Settings menu under Photos, there is an option to turn off "Keep Normal Photos". This helps in avoiding duplicate photographs on the device, when HDR is used. Also, deleting photos shot in burst mode helps a lot.

-Clean your music playlist

There might be songs that are unheard for a long time or simply doesn't suit the taste anymore. Delete them. Users can make maximum use of iCloud along with other music streaming apps to tune into the latest music.

-Clear offline data

Offline data from Safari or Chrome takes away a considerable amount of space. It is a good practice to clear browser cache regularly including offline reading lists.

-Delete duplicates

Hunt and delete. Most phones tend to have a large amount of duplicate data in the form of songs, videos and other files. It is simply a waste of storage.

-Migrate videos/ movies

Videos and movies are mostly a one-time watch on phones. If something is not important, it is better to migrate them to a Wi-Fi external storage or back it up on Google Drive. Alternative, deleting some helps as well.
