i got the problem fixed. the battery eventually ran out and then i just charged it and it started normally. now phone is fine. just the volume button is not working still but i see its a common problem with 720s as I found out after some research.

EDIT: I am using a macbook air so i cant download this NCS.
So yours is not a problem actually.
And no button problem in my mother's phone.
Simply get it fixed from the service center.

Maybe yes maybe no , depends what they show in Nokia world on 22nd October . But surface 2 is somewhere in my radar .
Cool.

According to Philip Clarke, research analyst at Nemertes Research, Blackberry is rapidly on its way out in enterprise, and Windows Phone is like to replace it.

According to their data 29.4% of companies have already ended BlackBerry (BB) support, another 11.8% have plans to do so in 2013 and 29.4% are evaluating to end-of-life (EOL), making a total of 70.6% of enterprises that will end BlackBerry support at some point.

Meanwhile Windows Phone adoption grew from 0% in 2012 to 25% in 2013, with an additional 16.7% have plans to adopt it, 20.8% are evaluating the operating system.

The main attraction was integration with existing Microsoft infrastructure, followed by unified desktop and mobile architecture.

Overall volumes are still small, but with millions of Blackberries still in use in enterprise, the rapid implosion of the company is an opportunity Microsoft and Nokia can not pass up at all.

As 70% of companies plan to End Of Life Blackberry, 62% plan to adopt Windows Phone | WMPoweruser

Compared to the screen size the resolution is less . Go and check the phone in real if it is fine for you , go and buy it comes bundled with some cool offers.
Humm
Simple. 199 PPI isn't acceptable. If it was me, I wouldn't even consider it in the list.
Also, 720 is cheaper and has a better camera and much more. 720p on the 720 is good enough.
Today price for 625 is 14 k and
720 is 15.5 k

So still 720 is better?

IMO the 720 is better. But it's all upto you whether you want a bigger screen or a better phone.
+ of 625 over 720
Bigger screen
1080p over 720p on the 720 (not much of a difference).
Might be a little faster
Better 3G speed - Useless in India

+ of 720 over 625
Better Camera
Better screen
Slimmer
Stylier
Lighter
Better battery backup
Better front camera
NFC

Microsoft Persuading HTC to offer Windows Phone OS As Second Choice To Its Android Customers

Looks like Microsoft is becoming more & more desperate in getting its Windows Phone, which hasn't been able to attract more people as Microsoft expected or wanted, to take off. We already know that Microsoft snatched Nokia's Phone business to propel its Windows Phone OS growth. Now according to the latest reports that are being published in various tech blogs like, GSM Arena, Engadget, the company(Microsoft) is puruading HTC(which itself making absymal business, just posted $101 milliion losses in the for the third quarter of this calendar year) to put Windows Phone OS on its Android offerings. Altough it is not yet clearly known how Microsoft wants HTC to implement this but they are offering HTC very low licence fee or even completely abolishing it as an incentive. Microsoft officials are reported be planning to visit Taiwan to speak to HTC top brass on this. The idea behind this thinking of Microsoft is that many HTC Android devices buyers(althoug very low in number compared to Samsung customers) will be able to try out Windows Phone OS so that it gets traction or familiarity among thos users who then may recommend it to their friends, family members or colleagues. This may backfire as well because the same people who Microsoft wants to attract through this route may never think of using Windows Phone OS & may recommend people in their closer circles to not use the same(Windows Phone OS) if they dislike it.

Windows Phone OS has been applauded by many as simple to use and buttery smooth OS(the reason it can run so well with out any lag even on a year or two old specs) but not been received well by non-geeks because of the lack of apps and by geeks because of its closed environment which means less tinkering... less choices.

Rumour: Microsoft planning to merge Windows Phone and Windows RT over the next two years | WMPoweruser

Microsoft insider MSFTnerd has posted an interesting rumour on twitter.

He claims Terry Myerson, newly promoted executive vice president of operating systems, has decided to slowly merge Windows RT and Windows Phone over the next 2 years.

The feat will apparently be managed by 3 regular General Distribution Release updates per year.

As an early move in that direction, Microsoft is also rumoured to be merging the Windows Phone and Windows 8 store.

The question that remains is if Windows Phone and Windows RT’s UI will also be merged, or if Microsoft will end up having different user interfaces for different screen sizes.

The rumoured move, and Myerson’s promotion itself, is indicative of the increasing importance of mobile – while people have to use laptops and desktops to get work done, they prefer using their phones, which is a dangerous trend for a company like Microsoft who’s dominance is tied to the former.

Report On Windows Phone 8.1: Microsoft To Remove Back Button And More Details | WMPoweruser

While we are expecting official information about Windows Phone GDR3, some new information on Windows Phone 8.1 which is coming early next year got leaked online. Winsupersite reported the following details on Windows Phone 8.1 based on their source.

Windows Phone 8.1:

Universal binaries: As expected, developers will be able to develop a single app that can run both on Windows RT and Windows Phone. Windows Phone 8 has 33 percent "API unity" with Windows RT, Windows Phone 8.1 will hit 77 percent.
Multitasking: Microsoft is aware of the fact that multitasking on Windows Phone is not up to the mark. While GDR3 will fix some issues like ability to manually close apps, other issues like notifications and background processes will be addressed in Windows Phone 8.1.
Bigger screens: This is a surprise and a new info. While GDR3 will support 5- to 6-inch screens, Windows Phone 8.1 will support 7- to 10-inch screens as well. I guess this will allow OEMs with three different OS choice from Microsoft to use on their devices.
No more Back button: Another surprise! Microsoft is looking to remove the support for back button from Windows Phone hardware spec. Reason mentioned was like users prefer going to home screen and navigate to other apps and also they are confused about back button functionality. I’m not a big fan of this news!
Low-cost/volume vs. High-cost/luxury: Microsoft will continue to focus on high-end devices despite recent focus around low-end device like Nokia Lumia 520 which is driving more volume of sales.

Windows Phone update brings new features

NEW YORK: Microsoft is updating its Windows software for cellphones to accommodate larger devices and make it easier for motorists to reduce distractions while driving.

It's the third update to Windows Phone 8 software since the system's release a year ago. Devices with this update will start appearing in the coming weeks, and older phones will be eligible for a free upgrade, too.

Something that may appeal to motorists: a new Driving Mode will automatically silence incoming calls and texts so that you can focus on the road. You also can configure the feature to automatically send out a reply to say that you're driving.

It can be activated automatically when the phone is linked wirelessly with a Bluetooth device in the car, such as a headset. Apple has a Do Not Disturb feature for iPhones, but that needs to be turned on manually.

What the Driving Mode won't do, however, is block outgoing calls or texts. And there will be ways to override it. The feature won't stop a teenager from texting while driving, but it will help reduce distractions for those who want that, says Greg Sullivan, director for Microsoft's Windows Phone business.

The new update also will allow for better resolution to accommodate larger phones. Currently, the system supports a maximum resolution of 1280 pixels by 768 pixels, which is adequate for phones with screens no larger than 5 inches on the diagonal. But video and image quality degrades when stretched out on larger phones, such as a 6.3-inch Android phone from Samsung Electronics.

The layout for larger phones also will change. Phones may now sport a third column of tiles, for instance. Contact lists and other features will be able to fit in more information. That's a contrast to Android, where text and images simply get bigger with larger screens, without actually fitting in more content.

Microsoft's Windows Phone software holds a distant third place behind Apple's iOS and Google's Android, with a worldwide market share of 3.7% in the second quarter, according to research firm IDC. But shipments of Windows Phone devices grew 78% to 8.7 million in the April-to-June period, compared with the same time a year ago. The tile-based layout in Windows Phone is the inspiration for the Windows 8 software powering tablets and personal computers.

There are a few ways Microsoft will catch up to the iPhone and Android phones with the new update.

For the first time, Windows phones will have a rotation lock function, so that the screen won't switch back and forth between horizontal and vertical mode while you're curled up in bed. There also will be a central way to close open apps. Before, you had to go into each open app and press and hold the back button.

And Microsoft is launching a program to give app developers early access to the new software. Apple has had a similar program for the iOS software behind iPhones and iPads, while Google often has worked with selected developers on unreleased features.
