Thanks Appu [:)]

More pictures are getting ready (downsizing to less than 1 MB) for upload. Also there are Ajanta pictures.

Yes they are a must visit for any traveller.

Also, when you are there, do not avoid caves which are unfinished (as normally advised by the guides) since they give us a real idea of the actual work and effort.

Nice Travellouge. you have certainly inspired me to visit Aurangabad Ajanta & Ellora which I had visited a couple of times during my school trips. I am seriously plaaning a trip there now. You can upload the images through picasa which downsizes the pictures to less than 1mb very easy and fast.

Cant just wait to view more pictures.

Regards

Ajanta - Its unbelievable.

There is some reason why I used the term "fabulous" for the pictures in this travellogue - Its like a fable, like a story almost ficticious and unreal but its actually infront of our eyes, Its Ajanta.

Ajanta Caves were discovered in 1819 by John Smith a British Officer of Madras Presidency during a hunting expedition.

Some Ajanta Caves are 2200 years old. The oldest caves were completed in 200 BC and some in 200 AD.

They are carved into in a hill which is U shaped or more accurately horse shoe shaped and its in a series starting from one arm of the U and ends in the middle with a few incomplete ones towards the end.

Some key wonders which we could notice.

A bull with a 3D eye. (Its a painting in the ceiling of one of the caves and the eyes are having a distinct 3 dimensional effect.)

Fashion and styling of the cloths and accessories and hair styles in those paintings. They show matching styles, colour contrasts, modern looking ornaments etc.
We can see today's fashion already scripted there 2000 years ago

The lion guard in Emblem of British crown is depitcted in some of the paintings and sculptures - obviously much before the British came to India and apparantly much before it appeared as part of British emblem.

Images and sculptures Dragons similar to those Chinese ones.

The amount of work gone into this magnifiscent creation.

The last set of pictures are a bit blurred and shaky. Guess you must have taken them with maximum zoom and very dark conditions. Anyways keep them coming.

Hi Cool,

Ajanta Caves are dark inside and flash is prohibited and it was a crowded day with so much disturbance and movements. Some people were flashing torch light and literally pushing us. [cry]
Any way pictures cannot do justice to the beauty of Ajanta.

Bibi ka Maqbara:
In Aurangabad

It was built by Aurengzeb's son in memory of his mother.

This was supposed to rival Taj Mahal but could not due to lack of funds (and possibly due to lack of skilled personnel also)

This can be called a poor man's Taj
