Surprise surprise!! Let me reveal the Honda City i-VTEC which turns into a true blue guzzler like any 1.5l petrol when the engine is spinning enthusiastically.
My numbers:
Honda City i-VTEC - 7.1kpl at a super heavy footed drive
Skoda Laura TSi - Around 7.5-8 kpl with speedo frequently going past 200
Bajaj Pulsar 220 - 32 kpl
Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS - 35 kpl
Chevrolet Cruze VCDi 163 ps - 10-10.2 kpl under heavy foot

Here is a pic clicked way back in 2011; look at the MID not the needle. View attachment 187425

Saarji its the intermittent FE thingy which was showing way below 10 kpl mark. Any Honda City owner will tell you how thirsty the 1.5l engine becomes when the owner goes heavy on gas. it's not for no reason I advocate high displacement engines; the point where the technology laden puny kids start losing their breath is where their elder counterparts shine.

Recently(last month end) I drove like 1400km (delhi-mumbai) and at least 50% of the time I drove at 120-130 and on NE1 I touched 170kmph for sometime and consistently driven around 130-140 on that expressway. Rest of the time 90-110kmph But my MID still showed around 15.9kmpl(at end of journey), I have 2013 iVetc. May be because I did long run but I do agree with you if I could have reset MID then I could have got may be below 10kmpl.
Note : I do not encourage to drive any one beyond safety for your own and others too. I drove like that when I thought its really safe to drive and had long empty stretch and visibility more than 300 meters straight with no crossing and had 100% concentration while driving. Please do not drive beyond safe speed.

@Manish:
I have never in my life owned a Cruze and nor I do plan to own one. The car was a brand new 163 ps version bought by a classmate. He just told me that it's as fast as my Laura or the Passat (My maternal uncle owns one) and then we went on to chek it out. Again the same, Cruze was unable to hold the candle once Laura started getting angry and better handling just helped pushing the Cruze further back. But when we refilled the tank of the Cruze after 70 kms of drive then it took more than 6.5 liters of fuel again till auto cut.
@Kunwar:
I have also got up to 19 kpl full highway FE from Honda City i-VTEC when driven sedately on highways. It's just that when the engine starts nearing to redline producing some super sporty sounds that the story changes. We used to touch the auto fuel cut (speed limit you may be knowing) as much times as possible and laugh like idiots (you can't expect better from intermediate students) and that time the City actually struggles to keep her head out of water I must tell you. Even the braking performance is also like there are no brakes until the speedo needle falls back to at least 100.
@Idsi:
Sirji I never in my life saw less than 7.2 kpl in Laura and that 7.2 was also for a small trip of around 1 kilometres in which the car went straight to redline in first 4 gears and then was slowed down to 100 for 500 metres before coming to stop.
