Hello Friends,

I got a call from a friend working with NIKON that some employee discount offers have been released by NIKON and he can arrange a DSLR for me at quite a discount. So, I request all photography experts to suggest me a good DSLR. I am somewhat inclined towards D3200 or D5200. Both are with standard 18-55 VR lens and a free 4GB card and a carry bag.

As the offer is for today only, so, request quick replies.

It has to be D5200 anyday. Some more bucks and you can go 550D.

BTW can we TAIns also expect any discount?

can your friend get me some discounts? :P

go for 5200. its is higher spec than 3200 and newer as well.
Just two things I found better in D5200, no. of focus points and swivel screen. Rest is almost similar in both. Kindly suggest how important these could be.

I'd love to have 550D but it's not on discount. Also, I have option of 18-55 as well as 18-105 lens. I read that 18-55 is much sharper especially for close-up shots. Which lens do you think would be better?

And yes, I can definitely see if I can get additional units for you. You won't believe D90 has a discount of around 14K, yummy??

Sorry for the delay. Go for the D5200 with 18-55mm. You may also add 55-200/300mm lens later if you wish in future.

BTW,What is the price difference between D5200 and D3200 after all discounts?

I have asked my friend to book D5200 with 18-105 lens. Hoping to get it as I recently learnt that due to the offer price there is a mad rush at NIKON.

Hello Freakdude

Can you please tell how much discount are you getting for nikkon D3200 with 18-55 Lens ?
How much is the total cost of camera with lens ?

I am asking this cause i was in same dilema few months back .
I was terribely consfused between Nikon D3200 and D5100 .
Anyways i zeroed in on D3200 .

Actually both are equally good cameras , but both of them have some advantages\disadvantages over each other

D32000 Advantages and Disadvantages for D5200 .

a. Lighter
b. Cheaper
c. Siighly thinner
d. Low noise at lower ISO
e. Great Colour Depth
f. High resolution 24MP
g. D3200 had a guide mode

Disadvantages of D3200 and Advantages of D5200 :-

a. No incamera HDR in D3200 but present in D5200
b. No Incamera Panoramas in D3200 but present in D5200
c. 11 Autofocus points in D3200 while D5200 has 39 autofocus points
d. No flipout Screen in D3200 , but present in D5200 .
f. 4 fps in D3200 whereas 5 fps in D5200 .
g. ISO can be boosted upto 12800 for D3200 whereas for D5200 it can be done till 25600 .

If budget is a constraint then D3200 is best if not then D5200 .
But personally speaking , if one is well versed with using each and every feature of a DSLR then only one must
invest in an expensive one and justice is done to the gadget as well, cause most of the time what happens is that we all tend to flow through emotional bouts [INCLUDING ME ] , purchase expensive gadgets
which ultimately land up in our wall units [frustration] [:D].

The discount on D3200 is almost around 8K from MRP. D3200 is a bit better that D5100.

Good choice buddy. 18-105 is more convenient as you don't have to keep changing lenses, a bit less sharper than 18-55 though.

Yes, 18-55 is a tad sharper than 18-105 but that is only in extreme close-up shots otherwise 18-105 is better. Also, I guess, 18-55 has a plastic mount ring so I fear it breaking easily if I do frequent lens changes.

I would have bought one more 18-55, It is such a master piece. 18-105 is next to crap comparitivly.
Thanks for the suggestion. Can you kindly elaborate your statement so that I can understand it better. I too found the same at a lot of sites that 18-55 marvels over 18-105 but strictly in close-up shots otherwise 18-105 is better overall as it has better zooming range.

1.You might have guessed, 105mm lense will have more optics Obviously more distortions and flaws less sharpness.

2.How much is the benefit of extra zoom ?any day you can crop 55m frame pic to half and viola !

3.105mm is bulky and double the weight for 55mm.

4.52mm thread (at front for attachments)is commonly available for UV filters and polarizer means cheap against 67mm of 105mm uncommon .

5.regarding the DOF for real zoom Photography, the aperture value is too unfriendly (Advanced user).I would prefer a 80 mm 2f for magical closeups !!

Hope I am understood,in office and lot of commotion here so I had to be quick and brief ,apologies for any error if any.

Thanks a lot for taking out time and explaining things to me. I've already requested for a 18-105 but still waiting to get a confirmed booking. Now, I am hoping less to get the DSLR in the offer price as most of the bookings have been announced and i am not in the list. [cry]
