MediaTek launches Dimensity 9300+ with support for Google Gemini Nano, Meta Llama

MediaTek-Dimensity-9300-Plus-Specifications.jpg

MediaTek has launched the Dimensity 9300+, a new chipset designed for flagship smartphones. While a modest upgrade in specifications compared to the Dimensity 9300, the new chip focuses on improved on-device AI processing and broader support for large language models (LLMs).

The chip is compatible with various LLMs, including Google’s Gemini Nano and Meta’s Llama 2 and 3. MediaTek claims this broad LLM compatibility, coupled with its on-device LoRA (Low-Rank Approximation) Fusion technology, will foster a rich ecosystem of generative AI applications.

In fact, the Dimensity 9300+ is claimed to be the industry’s first to achieve high-speed operation for specific LLMs. MediaTek touts a speed of 22 tokens/second for Meta’s Llama 2 7B model.

Beyond AI, the Dimensity 9300+ promises power efficiency improvements. It reportedly reduces power consumption by 20% for specific gaming scenarios. The chipset also integrates a “star speed engine” to optimize network connectivity and supports dual network concurrency.

Technical Specifications
Built on a 4nm process, the Dimensity 9300+ packs an octa-core CPU with one high-performance Arm Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.4 GHz, three additional Cortex-X4 cores clocked at 2.85 GHz, and four Cortex-A720 cores running at 2.0 GHz.

The chipset features MediaTek’s new NeuroPilot technology for improved AI processing. The APU 790 AI engine allows for running LLMs with varying parameter sizes, from 1 billion to 33 billion. Notably, it is said to have double the speed of competing solutions for 7 billion parameter LLMs.

For gamers, the Dimensity 9300+ integrates a second-generation hardware raytracing engine with an Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU.

The chipset also includes MediaTek’s Imagiq 990 ISP for improved camera capabilities and MiraVision 990 for improved visual content processing.

In terms of connectivity, the Dimensity 9300+ boasts a 5G R16 modem with support for Sub-6GHz networks and downlink speeds of up to 7Gbps.

Availability
The Vivo X100S will be the first device to use the Dimensity 9300+. Additionally, the upcoming iQOO Neo9S Pro, slated for release this month, will also be equipped with the new chipset.

HMD unveils the Pulse+ Business Edition smartphone

compressed_img-VkVk72s8j9NYh6RE4nKbBMkk.png

Human Mobile Devices (HMD) has launched its inaugural business smartphone, the HMD Pulse+ Business Edition. Designed with corporations in mind, this device promises a blend of sustainability, enhanced security, and cost-effectiveness.

Long-Term Security and Warranty Support

A standout feature of the HMD Pulse+ Business Edition is its five-year security update program and three-year warranty, ensuring businesses can rely on the device for secure, continued use over an extended period of time.

Efficient Manageability with FOTA Service

Accompanying HMD’s latest smartphone is the introduction of the Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA) service. This remote management tool enables corporations to control and update Android™ firmware centrally, streamlining the process and ensuring security patches and software updates can be applied with ease.

Repairability and Downtime Reduction

Downtime caused by device repairs can impair a business’s operations. HMD addresses this issue with the pulse+ Business Edition’s easy-to-repair design. Users can quickly remedy common hardware issues without specialized tools or engineering degrees by accessing spare parts and step-by-step guides through the HMD Repair Hub on iFixit.

Data Safety and European Data Storage Standards

Understanding the critical role of data security in the business environment, HMD has included features like network lock, PIN-only power off, and encryption to provide peace of mind. It also adheres to the stringent EU data protection regulations by centralizing client data storage and processing on the Google Cloud Platform within Europe.

Specifications and Availability

The HMD Pulse+ Business Edition, sporting a 6.56 inch HD+ display, 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, and a 5000mAh battery, is now available in a stylish Midnight Blue. Its cameras boast a 50MP rear and an 8MP front setup. Alongside the device, the HMD FOTA tool is also now accessible.

Context and Relevance of Business-Focused Smartphones

The HMD Pulse+ Business Edition launch comes at a time when the enterprise mobile market is seeing significant growth. As businesses aim to enhance productivity and ensure data security, the demand for mobility solutions that cater to specific corporate needs grows. Such a specialized approach aligns with the evolving work landscape characterized by remote and hybrid work arrangements.

Important Aspects to Consider

– What is the target market of the HMD Pulse+ Business Edition?
– How does the device differentiate itself from other enterprise smartphones?
– What are the security features included in the phone’s software?

Key Challenges and Controversies

A potential challenge for HMD could be competing with established players who have a strong foothold in the enterprise market. Moreover, the promise of a five-year security update program raises questions about how HMD will adapt to rapidly changing cybersecurity threats over this period.

Advantages of the HMD Pulse+ Business Edition

Extended Security and Warranty: The security update program and warranty support offer a sense of longevity and stability for businesses.
Repairability: The ability to self-repair devices can lower the total cost of ownership and reduce environmental impact by extending the lifespan of the hardware.
FOTA Service: Centralized firmware management simplifies IT operations and maintains security across all devices.

Disadvantages of the HMD Pulse+ Business Edition

Market Competition: It may have difficulty standing out in the crowded enterprise smartphone market.
Costs: Organizations with tighter budgets may find it challenging to invest in new hardware offerings, despite the long-term cost savings.

For more information on HMD’s offerings, visit their official website by clicking here. Please note that I cannot verify the URL validity as I can’t access the current state of the web, so make sure to validate the link before using it.

In summary, HMD’s venture into the business smartphone segment with the Pulse+ Business Edition aims to meet the niche demands of businesses regarding security, durability, and efficient manageability while facing the industry’s inherent challenges.
