I'm not sure about the names of Indian models but there are many cars which use timing chain.

@ gears: buddy, infact timing chain is old tech & was replaced by timing belt in newer cars. a timing belt has a smoother, quieter & a more efficient operation than a timing chain.

tatas, especially indicas, do have a problem with their timing belts but that does not mean the timing chain is superior to timing belt.

yes, my older non-CRDe scorpio used to come with timing chain. but mahindra replaced it with timing belt in mid 2004. the CRDe scorpios & mHawk scorpios & even my innova & all the new cars come with timing belt.

timing chain causes more noise & unwanted frictional losses. so i am quite surprised that the dzire uses the chain & not the belt.

no! timing chains have come again like ilango said...they are improved. engineers at msil are not idiots who will add an outdated technology in a modern car..

All doors lock only after 25kmph huh? In my Safari and Verna they lock themselves a few seconds after the engine is turned ON.

Wow Archit those are great features looking forward to more from you.
The Swift was the first to come out with this feature as OE.

And has anyone mentioned heated mirrors??
My Fabia has them, and it is good to keep the mirror surface clear during the rains.

cost cutting can also be a reason buddy.

the diesel engine in Dzire is essentially the mutijet from fiat. so maruti engineers has nothing to do with it except some tuning of the ECU!

i think the punto with multijet comes with timing belt & not chain. so i think maruti has tried to cut costs there.

yes, i think the punto comes with a belt, hence i am not sure why maruti opted for a chain.

also, its not always true that a belt assembly is cheaper than the chain.
