The Air filter chamber is located just behind the engine .
Opening the bonnet ,you can see an elephant trunk like structure[;)]-which is the Air inlet ,this thing will be the most pronounced out thing from the central element ,which is the engine.
Follow the Air inlet tube ,you can see it leads to a rectangular chamber ,behind the engine ,held by set of 4 metallic clips.
Unfasten the clips, remove the casing ,gently ,then remove air filter from that .

Best way to remove dust is with compressor air, else you can use cycle pump.
Don't remove dust by tapping,as it can cause the dust to get inside.
After cleaning, you can see the direction written in edges ,so as to to know which side should face inside/outside.
Place it and fasten the clips.

I too am a Engine bay lover and would love to make it look close to some of the pics attached in this thread...really guys, you people have done awesome job on your engine bay and I wonder, if there would be any difference between yours and a new brand car's bay.[clap]
Can anybody tell me which parts to be covered for a petrol esteem car?
The parts that I know are the air inlet, fuse box, battery terminals, but not sure of the alternator and any other electrical or other critical part(IAC Valve, which got faulty for one of the members car) that may gat damaged while washing the engine bay.
Also, one more question....is it safe to use those sprays or polishes on the engine bay parts? Aren't they flammable and the engine bay is one of the heat producing areas?
If in case they are safe, then can they help to restore the texture/shine of a 10 year old vehicle?
Thanks

In which direction the chamber will open, towards myself or towards windscreen? Shall I remove the elephant trunk like structure? If you post some pictures it will be helpful for me. [confused]

Very Nice Job.
How old is your swift?
It's not a swift. Its a 2000 model Maruti 800 5 speed, pristinely maintained by Shashi.

Put a polythene on the alternator, battery terminals, electrical connectors, and sensors. And your are ready to wash it.
The polishes are not flamable, but Zorrick is. That is why i have recommended to use it only when the engine is cool and leave it for half and hour then wipe it with a dry cloth. This way it will restore the shine as well as keep it protected from rats too.
PFA the pics of my 25 year old Maruti 800 prior to engine bay restoration (Zorrick was used post wash)

OMG, 17 years old vehicle? If 17 years old vehicle can look so good then, why not an 11 years (Mine) old.
Thanks for your reply Sumit.
I'll definitely give it a try once, though, I'm still a bit scared about the areas around the belts, starter, alternator, etc, but, I can take small patches elsewhere first and then go around these.

Dear Shashi and Sumitsinha,
After reading this Thread of sumitsinha and photos posted by sumitsinha and of you Shashi, I am inspired to do 3 - 4 things together ( I am hoping) , perhaps either at Nandi Motors - Bosch service centre ( where I got my undercoating done) or at MASS Mandovi, after talking to both of them and who would give me the full back up to get it done in my presence ( I know it may take Full 2 days) :::
1) Carburetor overhaul - what would be total cost including expected parts such as new gaskets and any other components and labour cost?
2) Radiator Flushing and filling up with new Coolant - what items to be replaced, if at all, and labour cost?
3) Engine Bay Cleaning - I will get it done along with above 2 since car will be cool while they remove the carb and Radiator.
4) May be do some minor spot rust touch up too, if it is possible as I had shown earlier with photos.

Since the Monsoon is approaching in a week's time or so and it is going to be cool, I can post phone the Replacement of my all the Tyres by a couple of Months, as I am not going out on highway and my running is within the city only.

Please do give me your suggestions /Tips and about the expenses to be incurred, of course labour is more expensive here.

Dear Sumitsinha and Shashi, please tell me where the Zorrick is available and cost ( or CarPro PERL ) ? can I Spray it later on getting home once the Engine Bay cleaning done and my car will be cool overnight here ?

Thanks in Advance.

Dear VR Shenoy Sir,

Engine bay cleaning is something which is best done as DIY. The easiest process for you will be to purchase Liqui Moly's engine compartment cleaner. Once the engine is COMPLETELY cold, spray it generously over all areas, specially the dirty components. Wait for half an hour, and then hose it down with water using a powerful spray gun. That should clean all the much and oily residue. You can then use soapy water to clean the engine, it will give you a nice clean engine bay. Then spray CarPro PERL in 1:1 or 1:2 dilution over the rubber hoses to get that natural shine. This is what I do. I don't use engine bay cleaner everytime, its required once a year. For other times, a shampoo wash should suffice.

I don't use Zorrick on Engine components anymore. CarPro PERL is enough for me. I bought one bottle from stores.ultimatedetailerz.com for approximately Rs.1050 for a 500ml can. It has to be diluted for various applications, so its good enough value.

Zorrick is good for DIYs though. 1 large can is available for Rs. 160 guess. You can find it at any reputed local hardware store. It has many uses like lubrication, penetration fluid, moisture displacement etc.

Regarding coolant flush, the best way is to do multiple flushes. For example, get one bottle of flush. Link to Flush which I use. Add 75% of the flush to your radiator, and drive for 10-15 kms. Keep an eye over temperature gauge. Drain coolant. In second step, use pure distillled water(no antifreeze/coolant) for the entire volume, and add remaining 25% flush. Again run for 10-15kms or let your car idle for half an hour. Drain again. Again add pure distilled water and let it idle or drive for 10-15kms. This step ensures that the whole system is free of any flush. Then drain it, and add antifreeze and distilled water in the required concentration.

For more details, look at this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s--5ft5YiHg

This will give you the best flush ever.

Dear Shashi, thanks for your reply.
I will order out on Amazon – Cash On Delivery - LiquiMloy LMRC Radiator Flush ( 200ml) for Rs 289, LiquiMoly Engine compartment cleaner ( 400 ml) for Rs 451 and 3M IA 26016639 Auto Speciality Shampoo ( 500 ml) for Rs 289, Total being Rs 1059 ( It should be Rs 1029 but shows Rs 1059 in the Cart and also shows Radiator Flush is a Gift and I am confused !!!!!!) and if I place the order tomorrow, I hope I will receive the same by week end. Worst come worst, I can do the work early next week. I could find Zorrick 88 on this link, please tell me is it fine ::::: Zorrik 88 (60gm) - Original : Online Electronic Components Shop, Price in India : electroncomponents.com
Now I have 2 – 3 points that come to my mind and seek your suggestion on point No 2 ,3 and 4.
1) I have to get Carburettor cleaning done in small Auto shop only, if so, there is no need for me to go to MASS or Nandi Bosch service centre, I can get it done at Shakthi Auto ( which is just a km from my home) , who did my recent services and I can also witness the work..
2) As regards Engine Bay cleaning, I can do DIY but need to go to a small place that have high pressure water spray because what I have is a normal water pipe connected to the water flow that comes down from my overhead water tank and pressure is limited to only to body washing and I don’t know whether the water pressure is sufficient to get rid of oily / greasy dirt removal.
Also when the dirt goes to our private maintained Approach Road (shared by we six Independent house owners) others may take objection. When the Monsoon starts, then the dirt don’t stop on the Approach Road, it goes to the Main Cross Road and to some closed Municipal drainage. But is it advisable to do this task during Monsoon? , because drying may take more time due to Moisture around.
3) As regards Radiator Flush, I have to ask you 2 questions. Can this 4 point process can be done on Idling for 20-25 minutes every time or I have to drive on Road for 10-15 minutes? Also I haven’t opened any Radiator drain tap so far, but can take the help of Shakthi Auto chap since it is bit hot after Idling. Not seen any drainage tap on Reservoir, so how to drain it? Please tell me how much Distilled water is required because I want to buy it from a reliable shop in a cane of 10 – 15 litres, as I don’t know whether any Auto shop guys keep enough stock or add tap water as distilled water.
4) What about cleaning with pressurised water of Radiator Fins which might have accumulated dust and dirt. I mean external parts.

Whilst on the subject, may I request you to give me the part no of Mud Flap set for M- 800 Type 2 Car and what is the cost. I may have to request any MGP dealer to order it for me by giving them money in advance as other shops have duplicate Mud flaps that looks cheap and of low quality.

Sorry for taking your time and Thanks in Advance.
