Re: Volkswagen - plant tour for us, TAIgers

Sethu,

First thing to do is to confirm our tour to VW.

Few of us can confirm attendance now. Giving 10% for any emergency, we can take 90% of that list as confirmed. Others can put in Tentative list. We can assume 50% of them will take part in the tour. There may be some last minute addition / deletion form these numbers. But we will get a rough idea of no of participants.

Once we get this, you can confirm to VW. I suggest we ask everyone to put their interest by tomorrow and you talk to VW on Thursday. When you are confirming, you can ask them the possibility of weekend tour. If there is no weekend tour, no point asking about alternate dates.

Travel from Chennai/Bangalore, stay in Pune etc - we can discuss once we have an overall idea.

Everyone, please add your names to the list. From the posts so far, this is what I gather.

Confirmed
1. Sethumurugan - Chennai
2. JohnyBoy - Mumbai
3. Cruiser - Mumbai
4. Surfer - Pune
5. Konkantrip - Pune
6. Anshuman - Bangalore

Tentative
1. Jarpickle
2. Sandykudva

Everyone, please update by tomorrow so that Sethu have a good idea when he talks to VW.

JohnyBoy Consider me also in Tentative (70% fix, 30% not), I have to get my examination dates that why. If there is no exam then I am in.

Sir, you are the default leader of all tours and meets. So no need to mention your name right? Without you, how can we go with the plan.

(Sorry, I missed your name :) )
Count me in for this meet.

Re: Volkswagen - plant tour for us, TAIgers

Hi Friends,

Hope you all remember that we have initiated for a plant tour at Volkswagen plant. I had sent a mail requesting the possibilities for organizing plant tour for us, TAIgers.

On Friday, I got a mail from Mr. Chaitanya Halbe, VW confirming the date and time for plant tour.

We have been allotted 7th March 2014 @ 10 AM.

I would like to get confirmation from our members about this date.

There is no info about alternate date/time (Now I have requested for that, if I get any reply I will let you all know)

If we could confirm it we can proceed further on booking tickets tickets in train (already it is in WL for Chennai to Pune)
Sethu Sir - It's a brilliant initiative and deserves a round of applause. Keep up the momentum.

where is the plant located?
It's in Chakan. Had been there when I was in Pune, but not inside though.

That would be great.Thanks [thumbsup]

Since March is a bit far away, its too early to confirm my participation.
I am pretty excited about this plan and quite positive that it would work out well. I would surely want to be a part of it. But as Keith pointed, it would be too early to confirm, but I am in "mostly".

Bangalore - Pune drive is around 800 km which can be covered in 12 hours. NH4 is really great.
Yeah, I am in, provided we would drive down there [clap] It's going to be a fun for sure, just a couple of days and all of us together, with our machines, will be a real fun! However, we can restrict the rides and pool as much as possible. So, you cut down the expenses, but double the joy.

By Volvo : 14 hours

I was thinking if we hire a AC coach (22 seater) from Bangalore, so we all can go by that. Let us leave Bangalore by 6th Late afternoon or evening (by then Chennai and other members can join) and reach by midnight.
Anshuman - Gotta be careful with Volvo these days... [frustration]

Re: Volkswagen - plant tour for us, TAIgers

Come on guys, we are members of a car forum. Why looking at bus, train and flights when we should be driving.

BLR-PNE-BLR Round trip is Rs 3800/- I checked for our concerned days.
Surfer and anshuman

It is not cheap, Gurrala sir.

Quick calculation:
Bangalore - Pune = 800Km. Most cars will give 15km/l. It comes to Rs 5 per Km for petrol. That is 4000. Plus there is toll of 800 = So total 4800 one way. 9600 for return. If there are 3 people, it comes to 3200 per person which is cheaper than the flight ticket. Also note I have not considered the following
1. If it is diesel car, it will be cheaper
2. If there are 4 people, again cheaper
3. Not added taxi charges to and fro airports. It will be easily Rs 500-1000 for the 4 trips.
4. The fun you can have when 3-4 guys driving together for 11-12 hours.
5. If it was Kingfisher, we could have accounted some amount for watching the air hostesses.

Only excuse to take flight instead of driving is if it is impossible to take 2 days off.

Re: Volkswagen - plant tour for us, TAIgers

I got reply from VW today. No alternate date is provided. And regarding confirmation we need to confirm in couple of weeks. Let us assume by 31st we will prepare final list and confirm it on 1st of Feb.

Anushman air travel seems to good idea. But do you think we will be able to finalzie the list by today (the advt says in 2 days we need to book)

Excellent. All points in my mind are well covered, especially the 1st point that "We are car enthusiast"! And for people like us, can't be sure of another chance like this, to live with our beloved cars and such alike minded people (probably friends) for couple of days together.

Of course, we should consider everyone's personal commitments and preferences as well. However, let's try to keep it as a drive as much as possible and if I am in, only in case of drive down. BTW, I am flexible to either take my ride or to join anyone else. We can probably shortlist bigger diesel ones that can accommodate at least 4 people comfortably.

Here is a rough maths keeping a min of 16 KMPL for a diesel car.

  • Bangalore - Pune (VW Chakan) - Bangalore = 1750 KMs
  • Fuel (D) Consumption = 1750/16=110 Lts
  • Fuel Cost = 110 x 59 = 6,490
  • Toll = 2000 (Approx.)
  • Total Cost = 8,490
  • Cost Per Person = 2,122 (Assuming 4 People).
Even if you keep approx. 10K as budget, the cost per person would work to 2.5K, which is a lot cheaper than any other means of transport.

Let's think over it!
