@ Sethu sir, please call me friend not sir.
Sorry.

After mukesus revealed that head rest can be used to break the glass , I put the jack and spanner back to its original place in the boot.
I like that.

How come I10 and etios come without head rest or they are fixed ?
IMHO , they are compulsory by law[rules] atleast on front .correct me if I am wrong. Owners please clarify.
Some of the new cars [nano, i10] I think they have in built head rest which can not be removed.

Hey guys, when we are talking about this topic, I found a fiesta which does not have side turn indicators. How come it is possible, now a days a car, that too such a long car without side turn indicators?

Head rest are present, but are not removable ones. See the image below:

And one more thing , I dont think so that head rest metal would be strong enough to break the glass in emergency. [roll]
Lets hope no one ever face such situation.
But its capable of breaking the glass, atleast the ones on my Scorpio are strong enough to break them.

In manza and wagor atleast I found the metal rods of head rest enough to poke and achieve initial break through, remaining work can be done with the' back of the head rest'.

Very nice thread. Some tips i follow are
Start journey in the wee hours of morning if going to a place the first time.
Otherwise start around 4pm in the evening.

Both will also help on avoiding city traffic and truck traffic on the Nh

As much as possible I avoid driving in night. either plan accordingly that I reach home/destination max by 10pm in case if i had to start in the evening. Other wise start early morning say max by 5am. if want to start early before that you had to get up early again that might be a spoiler.

If you do not have already, please fit a baby seat in your car. Your kid can have a nice sleep on the way. Also please do not exceed speed limits (80 KMPH). The stretch from CCU to KGP is good except the Kolkaghat bridge(I do not know present condition, Kolkata members can update).

Cheers,

Ford Fiesta or for that matter all cars come equipped with indicators on side. Though the location could be different which usually is either fender or behind the rear view mirror.

As every one shared the tips and their driving practices, here is mine.

If I am traveling out of Bangalore, I start early. We have medians till you reach outskirts or Bangalore. This helps not to worrying about incoming traffic (Especially buses reaching Bangalore from different city/states). They may be driving all the night so they may even feel sleepy too. If it is with divider, the chances of getting into trouble are less.

If I have to travel from other places where there is no median, I start little late to avoid incoming traffic. I start at least when i can see the road.

I will never sleep pulling over to sides (for 10 minutes or 1 hr sleep). If you are used to that, it is okay. In my case, if i sleep 1hr and then drive, i will be having that dizzy feeling. I can be awake for 24-48 hrs. Once i start sleeping, i sleep like 'Kumbakarna'. I do not like to get disturbed.

If you feel sleepy while driving, stop immediately & freshen up. Talk to your co-passengers and discuss some interesting topics while driving. Or if you are used to 10min/1hr sleeping , you can try that. If you are not used to this short nap, please do not try that.

I may have to do night driving to go to Kolhapur (from Bangalore) and wanted to get some tips on night driving. I have also seen http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...10-how-avoid-sleep-while-driving-night-3.html on avoiding sleep, but think there will be few more important things I need to be aware of like high/low beam, where to stop and where not to stop etc.

It would help if experts could advise me.

Note that I will be driving with my wife and kid (2 yr).

Thanks.
