Two instances in 2 days.

So on sunday afternoon with no traffic. I am taking a left turn(A free left). A gentleman with his activa coming near the median on the opposite lane right straight to me. I was doing 20 kmph, no traffic at all and I am the only one turning from the signal. So gave him way to go. Cause he is going very urgently that he can't stop in the signal just behind 2 cars and came to the opposite way.

While coming to office today, saw a gentleman in his bike going very slowly holding his bag on the petrol tank with one hand and driving with one hand in middle of the road. Gave a horn. Alas, no response for some time. Finally he changed the hands, then I realised, he is typing a message in his mobile. So, this is multi tasking. One hand riding the bike, one hand holding the bag and also texting in the mobile at the same time. He deserves an award, isn't he??

Visited Mahabaleshwar last weekend and witnessed a total traffic chaos there.
  • Roads fully loaded from both side with zig-zag parking making already narrower road more narrower.
  • Peoples taking there cars in reverse without bothering who is behind.
  • Parking a entire Volvo in middle of road (off course there is no side as road itself is of Volvo width) just to take photographs
  • People taking there vehicles at the edge of viewing points just to take selfies
  • Rashly driven Sumos, Ominis and Swifts on narrow road
  • No follow ups of rule like giving way to one who climbs up
  • Spread up of Mahabaleshwar and Pachgani pollution tax collectors on entire road creating traffic lineup.
The list goes on and on...[evil]

Almost all hill stations are similar I noticed, even Ooty Coonoor are same partly because of lack of space on hilltops, overcrowding by tourists, of course roads are not maintained & prone to more damage due to more wet weather. thanks for the info about mahabaleshwar though it definitely helps for those who want to visit to be ready. Yeah. In my next visit I have decided to park my car in hotel premises and take a taxi to roam around in Mahabaleshwar.

recently i have noticed that if you are about to overtake a car the other driver increases the speed of his vehicle and wouldn't let you pass even though he would have been going slowly for ages.
This is not just a matter of bad etiquette, but it is specifically and clearly mentioned as an offense in traffic rules "The driver of a motor vehicle shall not, when being overtaken or being passed by another vehicle, increase speed or do anything in any way to prevent the other vehicle from passing him". Such behaviour is another cringeworthy thing very common on our roads [frustration].

Today in madurai an ambulance was in a hurry and the driver of that ambulance was almost honking even with siren on in the congested traffic the big thing is the whole traffic gave a seperate way for the ambulance and even public transports gave way in such a congested traffic and the ambulance passed through the traffic way faster and after that there were some two wheeler's which went behind the ambulance to escape from traffic signals and to go faster than others.

Why are the people like this? What happens when the ambulance (Tempo traveller) applies sudden brake and change lanes? Then that itself be as an accident right.

This is a common practise every where. Going behind an ambulance, they can escape red signals, escape traffics, escape from traffic cops. What if ambulance breaks suddenly? Yes. Another accident. So one more extra patient in the ambulance.

Might the patient in ambulance is there relative. But most of the people who are going behind ambulance have clear intention to escape traffic, signals and off course the tolls as well.

in one of todays malayalam dailies the driver of a fire force ambulance has written that he was deliberately slowed down by a young man in a car while he was shifting an accident victim to the hospital with sirens blaring, the head light on and the flashers on. he assumes that he was deliberately delayed by nearly 3 minutes in reaching the hospital. when he reached the hospital the victim had gone in for cardiac arrest but the ECG tracings were still present. he feels that if he had reached 1 minute earlier the patient would have been saved. the driver of the car has been arrested and charged by police. but alas one precious life was lost.[frustration]
