GM recalls Buick Envision over all-weather floor liner that may trap Accelerator Pedal

A Buick Envision floor mat recall includes nearly 35,000 SUVs because the all-weather floor mats can trap the accelerator pedals while driving. The recalled 2024 Envision could suffer from sudden unintended acceleration as a driver tries to figure out what is happening.

The recalled Buick Envision floor mat has part number 85647097. A GM dealer discovered the floor mat problem which caused the automaker to open an investigation in June.

GM found nine complaints that may be related to the floor mat problem, but no crash or injury reports have been received. More than 7,000 of the SUVs are recalled in Canada.

General Motors dealers will modify the floor mat (if equipped) and reimburse owners for the original cost of the all-weather floor mat. Buick Envision owners will have the option to return the floor mat for reimbursement if they don't want the mat modified.

Buick Envision floor mat recall letters are expected to be mailed September 23, 2024.

BMW recalls nearly 721,000 cars and SUVs due to a Fire Risk

BMW has ordered a recall of 720,796 vehicles spanning numerous models because they may catch fire. The issue is said to stem from a faulty seal on the water pump, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

The recall covers multiple cars and SUVs in BMW's lineup, ranging from the 2012 to 2018 model years. The list of impacted models includes the Z4 convertible; certain 2-,3-,4-, and 5-series cars; and certain X1, X3, X4, and X5 SUVs.

Specifically, the problem with these BMWs involves the water pump's electrical pump connector allowing water to drip from the positive crankcase ventilation system through the seal, potentially causing a short circuit. A short circuit could cause a fire in the engine bay, necessitating the recall. In the chronology report for the recall, BMW reports 18 events where either damage or complaints occurred due to the problem. Thankfully, BMW notes that it has not received any reports of injuries related to the issue.

The dealer notification process has already started, and BMW is expected to start notifying owners through the mail in early October. Owners will be instructed to bring their car to a local dealership, which will inspect and (if necessary) replace the water pump and plug connector for free. A shield will also be installed to divert any dripping fluid away from the pump and plug connector. Owners can always check the NHTSA recalls website to see if their vehicle is impacted.

Ford recalls 4600 2024 Mustangs due to Rear Suspension issue

Ford is recalling several thousand 2024 Mustangs because of an issue that stems from production at the parts supplier. The recall covers 4595 Mustangs whose rear suspension knuckles may have casting imperfections that weaken the part and could lead to cracking.

A fractured suspension knuckle may reduce the car's lateral stiffness and generate significant toe-in or toe-out of the rear tire when accelerating or braking, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The change in toe may affect the ability to steer, leading to an increased risk of a crash.

Recall documents show that an improperly fitted debris filter may have been used during the production process, allowing slag to enter the cast and resulting in the defective part. According to the chronology report, Ford was aware of two potentially related reports of vehicles with fractured or cracked rear suspension knuckles. Thankfully, the automaker has not been made aware of any related injuries.

Ford will notify Mustang owners later this month, with dealer notifications already occurring. The automaker will inspect recalled models for impacted serial numbers on the suspension pieces, replacing them for free when necessary. According to NHTSA documents, owners who paid to have the repairs completed on their own may be entitled to reimbursement from Ford.

NHTSA recalls over 9,000 Tesla Model X SUVs

Tesla is recalling 9,136 Model X SUVs due to a potential safety risk involving the roof trim, which could detach and increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The issue stems from the front and center roof cosmetic trim pieces, which may have been adhered to without primer. Over time, this could lead to the trim separating from the vehicle, posing a road hazard.

This recall represents a rare physical recall for Tesla, a company known for addressing many issues through over-the-air software updates. The affected vehicles will be inspected, and any necessary repairs will be made at no cost to the owners.

The recall is part of a broader trend for Tesla, which has already recalled nearly 2.6 million vehicles in the first half of this year alone, trailing only Ford, which has recalled about 3.6 million vehicles in the U.S. during the same period. Tesla owners are advised to have their vehicles inspected to ensure safety.

1.4 Million Ram 1500 Trucks recalled over Stability Control flaw

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced about 1.4 million Ram 1500 trucks may have defective electronic stability control systems due to software errors. The recall targets trucks manufactured between 2019 and 2024, equipped with antilock brake system (ABS) control modules that could malfunction, potentially increasing the risk of an accident.

The issue was first identified in February after FCA reviewed warranty and field reports, leading to an investigation by engineers who traced the problem back to software glitches in the ABS control modules.

Owners of the affected vehicles will notice several warning lights on their dashboards, including those for ABS, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning systems.

According to FCA, this recall also extends to 158,670 trucks in Canada.

Starting Oct. 3, FCA plans to send recall letters to affected owners, instructing them to visit dealers who will update the software of the ABS control module at no cost.

For those with faulty MOPAR replacement parts, FCA has issued a separate recall for 7,300 ABS control modules sold as replacements for the same range of trucks. Owners of these parts have the option to have the defective module replaced or repurchased by FCA, besides the software update.

Owners concerned about whether their vehicle is affected by this recall can contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403 with the recall number 85B for the Ram 1500 trucks and 76B for the MOPAR ABS control modules.

Volkswagen to recall nearly 99,000 EVs in US over door handle issues

A VW ID.4 door handle recall has been expanded to include 120,000 SUVs with doors that can suddenly open without warning. You can use your imagination of what can happen if a door suddenly opens on a highway or while going around a curve.

All previously recalled ID.4 SUVs will need to be returned to dealers for repairs. The recalled 2021-2024 ID.4 vehicles are equipped with door handles that can allow water to enter the circuit board assemblies. Volkswagen says water that intrudes into the door handles will cause an "open command" to the ID.4 door locks.

In February, Volkswagen learned about door handle complaints after the supplier allegedly fixed the problems. VW determined water was entering the door handles and corroding components.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration worked with Volkswagen about the ID.4 door handle complaints as the supplier confirmed the root cause. VW isn't aware of any crashes or injuries, but at least 135 door handle warranty claims have been filed. It's likely your VW doors are affected if your ID.4 doors make clicking noise.

About 20,000 Volkswagen ID.4 SUVs are recalled in Canada.

Volkswagen ID.4 door handle recall letters are expected to be mailed November 1, 2024, and dealers will inspect the door handles and possibly replace them. Dealers will also update software.

Jeep recalls nearly 33,000 Gladiators, Wranglers over failing Instrument Panel display

Stellantis’ latest recall affects more than 32,800 Jeep Gladiator trucks and Wrangler SUVs. The issue in these vehicles involves the instrument panel display, which may fail.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2018-24 Wranglers and model-year 2020-24 Gladiators. The instrument panel display may short-circuit and fail, preventing the driver from seeing critical information (e.g., warning lights and the speedometer) and increasing the risk of a crash.

To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the instrument panel display for free. Jeep parent company Stellantis will notify owners Oct. 3, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 800-853-1403 (Stellantis’ number for this recall is 30B), NHTSA’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.

GM recalling 450,000 Trucks, SUVs that fail to issue Brake Fluid Warning

General Motors issued a recall that spans 449,671 trucks and SUVs with a potentially faulty brake fluid warning light. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall includes some 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks, and 2023 and 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV models.

The recall documents show that the brake control module may fail to warn the driver of brake fluid loss before brake performance degrades. A mismatch between the brake control software and the brake control calibrations reportedly causes the failure.

Dealers will issue a software update to the affected vehicles to match the brake module software with the correct calibration. Vehicles capable of receiving over-the-air updates will be able to receive the fix from home, while owners of non-OTA-equipped vehicles will have to visit their dealership for the update.

Dealers were informed of the recall on September 12, and GM will notify owners by mail starting on October 28. Owners can also check the NHTSA recalls website beforehand to see if their vehicle's VIN is involved in the recall.

Ford recalls 144,000 Maverick trucks because rearview camera image might freeze

Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 144,000 2022-2024 Ford Maverick pickups in the U.S., the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

The recall is because the rearview camera image can freeze when the vehicle is in reverse, increasing the risk of a crash.

The vehicles are equipped with Connected Touch Radios. To remedy the problem, dealers will update the Connected Touch Radio software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 30. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S59.

The small Maverick pickup has been a hit for Ford, with the company reporting deliveries of 38,052 of the small trucks in this year's second quarter, an increase of about 81% from a year before, Ford reported. Total sales for the first six months the year was 77,113 trucks. The hybrid version of the pickup accounts for more than half of the sales — 20,760 in the second quarter, totaling 40,420 hybrid Mavericks from January through June

Mazda recalling more than 77000 ND-Gen MX-5 Miatas due to Airbag problem

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that Mazda is recalling more than 77,000 late-model MX-5 Miatas, due to faulty control modules for the vehicle's air bag sensors. During a minor crash, NHTSA says, the air bag could improperly deploy with excessive force, instead of the lower-energy level of deployment that should occur.

This unexpectedly forceful deployment may increase the risk of airbag induced injuries, in particular for occupants who don't wear a seat belt. As of September 11, 2024, however, Mazda was not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue.

The recall involves 77,670 Mazda MX-5 Miatas built between April 20, 2015, and November 2, 2023. Mazda estimates that 100 percent of MX-5s built during that period have the faulty sensor; considering the ND-generation Miata began with the 2016 model year, that means the recall covers a vast majority of current-gen MX-5s on the road. Cars built after November 2, 2023, have an updated, properly calibrated sensor.

A recall for 15,835 Fiat 124 Spiders, which are based on the same platform, was also announced this week for the same issue. The Fiats subject to recall were built between March 1, 2016 and August 31, 2020.

Mazda dealers were notified of the recall this week. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 17, 2024. Dealers will reprogram the airbag sensor control module with improved software; the repair will be performed free of charge to vehicle owners, as is required by federal law.

Owners looking for more information can contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 6924I. Owners can also contact the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.nhtsa.gov; the NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 24V695000.

Jeep recalls 194,000 Plug-In Hybrid SUVs over Battery Fire risk

American automaker Jeep is recalling nearly 200,000 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles globally for a potential battery fire risk. In the United States, 154,032 cars are affected, with an additional 14,038 in Canada, 673 in Mexico and 25,502 outside North America.

Jeep said certain model-year 2020-2024 Wrangler 4xe and 2022-2024 Grand Cherokee 4xe are affected, but just 5% of them may have the defect. The company started the recall after a routine review of customer data led to an internal investigation that discovered 13 fires. All the cars were parked and turned off, but the cause of the fires is still unknown. The recall has not been published yet on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website.

Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, said that “a remedy is imminent” and that affected customers will be notified when they may schedule service. The automaker added that the risk of a fire is reduced when “the battery charge level is depleted” and advised owners to refrain from recharging and to park away from structures or other vehicles until a fix is found.

Stellantis recalls nearly 130,000 Ram 1500 pickup trucks for a turn signal malfunction

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling 129,313 of its 2023-2024 Ram 1500 vehicles. The automotive company said that “the turn signal self-canceling feature may not function properly”, the NHTSA report said. When a driver's turn signal does not function properly, it will fail to indicate to other drivers if the vehicle plans to change direction. This malfunction can increase the risk of a crash, the report said.

The NHTSA also noted that the Ram 1500 "fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, 'Lamps, Reflective devices, and Associated Equipment.'"

“A review of customer feedback led to a company investigation that discovered certain 2023 and 2024 model-year Ram 1500 trucks may have been built with steering column control modules that are out of specification,” Frank Matyok, a spokesperson for Stellantis said in a statement to USA TODAY. “These may not allow the self-canceling turn-signal feature to function correctly.”

Matyok also added that there have not been any reports of injuries.

As a remedy, dealers will inspect and replace the steering column control module, as necessary. This service will be completed for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Oct. 29. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is A1B.
