Lets move on.

Edios might be wondering why he has asked the question. [;)]

Manoj likes pictures which are not sharpened too much. HR likes pics with sharpness. Indian likes sometimes soft pics as well. Raja likes to do some drama on some shots. Others like to add some photoshop in every photos. I like to see all kind of shots :) :The End: hehe.

Lets discuss in a soft manner than targeting someone directly. Lets respect everyone's view ! I am sure both will agree that there were at least couple of good shots from each of them in that 'best photograph' thread.

I do not want to see any of you being inactive after this discussion. We have lost some good contributors like codename47,zengetz etc.

Thanks from my side

@appus, Agree with you buddy.

I thank him for that, because of this discussion, I found that I missed one important adjustment I should have been doing which is 'sharpening'. I always wondered most of my pics not sharp.

Exactly [clap], imagine looking at pictures which are processed with exact same settings and style, that world would be boring.

Just posting, some before and after effects of one of the pics just to show the difference it makes(not to show that I am a pro), note that these are all screen shots so quality is low.

Glad to see you getting it just right, at least from the pictures posted. Assuming you to have done it with LR, now you must know the difference between “soft”, just sharp enough and “over-sharpened” images. Keep experimenting with various settings/parameters to know the “optimum” level of sharpening to be done on a picture.

Over-sharpening is not a “style” or “type” photography, but simply a poor technique which takes away the beauty from your shot. I would rather look for variety of subjects available, uniqueness in composition etc instead.

Learning DSLR photography is an never-ending process, which exactly is the beauty of it as well. I am sure even Pros would agree with me here. Every time I return after a shoot or finish a post processing session , I end up learning something new . The very realization of what went wrong and the motivation to better your skills is what keeps me going in photography.

Recently, was into some bird photography [learning mode] though there aren’t many around and it’s always overcast in this part of the world. Mostly shot at about 7-10 meters distance away from me.

The following settings I thought would suit to start with.
Mostly tried with Aperture Priority and at times Shutter Priority
The key was to get:

  • The lowest possible Aperture f-number
  • Shots at least at 1/1000 s or faster
  • The lowest ISO as possible for better image quality.
On a reasonably good sunny day, there is no reason why one can’t get to shoot with these numbers.
The overcast and lack of light got me to raise the ISO even up to stupid 1600 on my basic D3100 as in this picture.
DSC_0119.jpg
Note:
  • Reduced green shade in the background to minimise distraction
  • Next time, will definitely want to get the f-number down one more stop and ISO to say at least 200.
  • Even after having it shot at ISO 1600 and cropped heavily, the ‘noise’ isn’t unbearable, I thought.

Gone bankrupt, but bought a new Nikon D7000 [body only].
With that, my DSLR gear is complete at least for another few years.

My D3100 wasn’t able to handle the abuse with Sigma 150-500mm, when handheld. Until I got the biggie, I was thinking of an upgrade only after 6 months or so.

Purely based on the VFM aspect. Heart was definitely in favour of D7100 for getting arguably the best DX DSLR at present .But then I was looking at a difference close to Rs.20k. I didn’t feel any significant difference in build quality as well.
Two new sigma glasses + a new D7000, all in about a month = [angel][clown]

I hope d7000 wont let you down
 I seriously hope so.
Being a user of D7000, do you miss the additional features of D7100?

Not really for my kind of use. I asked it because of more MegaPixel advantage especially when you have to crop heavily on long objects (birds/wildlife). For me, the megapixel does not make any difference as I do not crop that much / or print wall posters !

Thanks

DX = 1.5x + 1.3x crop mode = lots of cropping I guess. Should still be good with its 24.1 Megapixel sensor. For many, 70-300mm VR glass + 1.3x crop mode yields good results.

Since I have a better reach up to 500mm with my Sigma, I thought I wouldn’t have to crop my pictures much. Nevertheless, 1.3x crop factor a great and innovative feature, indeed.

@Manojodungat,
I knew you'd do it. D3100 is simply not fully satisfactory for your lenses. If you were, you wouldn't have bought a D7000. Tell me if you went it for 'better IQ'.[;)]

Maybe some of the last beautiful pictures from my 1100D ( I love these kind of pictures). Don't know if it'll be sold or not.
The new body is not far away. If lucky, next week itself.

Sorry for asking this question again. 50mm (cheaper without AF-S, which I'd be getting anyway) vs 35mm.

I'm towards the 50mm, don't know why. Seen a few picture on the web of both 35mm and 50mm. 50mm got more bokeh effect plus the picture looks better.

And is 55-200mm lens a good one for 7.5K?

Most probably, I'll be getting one of the prime lenses + that 55-200mm.

Am I right in the decision?

How is the performance of mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras, is this a good option to go for.
So far what I understood from Google is, the draw back with this camera are
1-AF is not that good as DSLR.
2-Battery is consumed more.
3-Little slower than DSLR.
4-Not good for action photography(not required for me).

Please share your experience with mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras.

I called a distributor at around 5 PM today and he told me 49,000 is the new MRP (changed today) of D7000.
