Good calculation but sorry to say I am unable to make out the point nor the figures mentioned, I am able to relate with anything! If possible, please upload an excel sheet with above rational or assumption. I am sure people will be able to make out something.

Personally I believe even if you drive a Diesel car for 1200 KMS a month, you should be able to recover the diesel premium amount within 2 years. With reference to Service , a diesel car gets serviced at 10K kms however a petrol car gets serviced every 5K Kms. technically, for instance

1st service of petrol car : Rs 2000 at 5K Kms
2st service of Petrol Car : Rs 2000 at 10K Kms

and considering a diesel

Service of diesel car at 10K Kms : Rs 5000

I think it turns out to be the same. Plus the benefit of mileage and convinience to go on long trips adds on to it . I own a petrol and a diesel car and can feel the difference in both when it comes to maintainence.

My calculations are based on 5 year tenure taking care of insurance, maintenance, running cost and other cost due to diesel. In my calculation I have concluded that with monthly running of 500kms, one can buy diesel (5years i.e. 60 months) when we bring this time frame down to 2 years i.e. 24 months then multiply 500 * 2.5 (60/24)= 1250 kms per month.
You are absolutely right. Initial two years diesel doesn't give any maintenance problems and almost are at par.
I also own both but at the moment loving my new diesel car due to two reasons, running cost (absolute no bother) and torque offered by diesel.

Guys Budget for Petrol/Diesel Heads

Budget 2012-13 and Auto Industry:

Three Categories and three subcategoris in 1st two:

1. Petrol

A) <1200 CC and <4 M: 12 % excise duty (up from 10%)

B) <1500 CC and >4 M: 24 excise duty

C) > 1500 CC and >4 M: 27 % excise duty

2. Diesel

A) <1500 CC and <4 M: 12 %

B) <1500 CC and >4 M:24 %

C) >1500 and >4 Meter: 27 %

3. Suv: Priced more than $ 40000: Excise duty up from 60-75 %

At the moment dealers speculated a hike of Rs 80000 on diesel cars. Here is my take, anyone with monthly running of 550 kms should opt for diesel car at the current price point.

Thankfully, union budget didn't imposed special diesel subsidy tax, otherwise it would have changed the calculation s in favour of petrol car purchase and parking it most of the time rather than running it on the road.

GOI already have a plan for this and will increase the diesel price very soon.

From April ,2012 the price of petrol will be 78 and diesel will be 55 (all guessed depended on various sources ) in Bangalore.

So, in that context with max. to max. 500- 800 KM running should I go for Punto 1.2 Dy or Punto 1.3 Active? The price diffrence is max. 50K. (approx.)
