Guys, we visited the showroom last evening (which was undergoing repairs after a minor accident caused by the Fabia-the display car of course) and guess what, mom LOVED it! So finally, we have decided that the Fabia it is! Our papers will be submitted on Monday (we will book the car today or tomorrow depending on our schedule) and the car will be here by next week!

Now, I will be getting the VIN.no for the car today. The color chosen is Silky Silver (I wanted white though). Now, what brand of tyres should I opt for? They're offering Bridgestone or Goodyear. So what's better? And also, apart from sunfilms (that too-which brand?) and mats, what else should I ask for? Do let me know at the earliest.

Thanks all!
Congratulations Amaan, I’d recommend to opt for the Bridgestone tires, and for the tints, it has to be Llumar. Other freebies by dealer could include car freshener, floor mats, mud flaps, idol etc. Do share a complete dealership review of Skoda with us, and let us know the VIN in appropriate thread so that we can try to decode it.

congrats amaan.
for the tyres either BS or GY both are almost the same though i prefer BS.
and for sunfilms, go for either garware,3M, or vkool. if possible also ask for windshield filming. other than that you need to ask for keyless entry for sure.
better initially ask him to give all accessories-body cover, keyless entry, fabric seat covers etc. i am sure he'll not agree for all. but later you could remove 1 or 2 from the list. also don't cosider only one dealer. i think that in mumbai there are multiple skoda dealers. visit all the delearships and ask him all the things(discounts, freebies, tyres) before zeroing down on where to buy.

@ Srisharsha Chennai has only one dealer for Skoda " Gurudev Motors" i believe and i think the scenario must be the same in Mumbai too. Maybe maximum 3 dealers.

UPDATE: Folks, I would like (or rather be sad) to tell all of you that at the last moment, we decided to ditch the Fabia. My brother is still not convinced about Skoda's aftersales and he couldn't really understand why that Fabia costs a lakh more than the equivalent Figo/Wagon R (I know that's stupid because it's a completely different segment, but I tried to convince him, to no avail [frustration]). Though the final decision hasn't been made yet, the Fabia surely isn't the first choice anymore. And I hate to say it, but we're back to square one. Wagon R VXI vs Figo EXI/Titanium. Once again [cry]. But I won't let it go this easily. If we do have to leave the Fabia, then in that case there is no way we're getting anything less than a Figo! (Though I genuinely hope I am able to convince him for the Fabia- I just love that car.)

Meanwhile I don't think the Ford dealer would offer many freebies right? What can I ask for from him? Extended warranty? Upholstery?

Oh another twist , am equally sad Amaan![cry] Some people always mix up the entry level hatches and the premium ones. Fabia i suppose is one gem of a car and now even if you get a Figo your heart will always be on the Fabia!

Yeah as the Figo is selling well not many offers or freebies can be got. You can try getting rubber floor and boot mats , perfumes , idols , seat covers and tints.

Don't opt for the extended warranty during purchase, You can always get it at a later stage and that's far more a better bet.

Sad end to the tale of the boy who was going to get his FAbia. Your brother's 1st point is indeed valid, but the 2nd is folly.

Anyway, Er, pardon me, but why isn't the i10 on your list? From page #2, know that you feel that the i10 has smaller interiors, but then, doesn't that bring the i10 and WagonR at par? IMO, the i10 seems the best bet for you (Besides I'm buying one too, after 2-3 days.Delivery on Fri, Sat or Sunday) So whadya say? Anyway, the decision is left to your family anyday.(, unlike in mine, where I take the decision, and they enjoy the fruits of it!!)

EDIT: It seems pretty obvious that both of our purchase-stories have many twists!

I completely agree with you Dhaya. My heart will always beat for the Fabia, such a great car it is. Though I like the Figo too, no small car can really match the Fabia on the feel-good factor-not even a Honda Jazz. The Ford dealer is only offering me teflon and surface coating (what's that? [confused]). Is it all I should be getting? And tints seem difficult, with such demand it is unlikely he will offer anything else for free.

Is it so??? I always thought that we had to buy the extended warranty at the time of purchase! If we can opt for it at a later stage, then we will do that. And as far as the Polo is concerned, fortunately a VW showroom is coming up in Santacruz within a week's time, so after so many twists in the tale, I wouldn't be surprised if we do go there to check the Polo out.

I know. BIG folly. But some people never understand [frustration] I spent all my day trying to convince him, but all my efforts were in vain. The i10 is too dated and frankly, doesn't shine in any particular department. And I don't like the way it looks either- I'd have the new Wagon R over it. Anygivenday.

And yes, it has been a twisty journey, and I don't like it. A typical small car buyer today is so spoilt for choice, it might be easier to buy a bigger luxury car. At least you won't have so many different options to get confused with.

My aim is very clear now. Fabia, or the Figo. Nothing less than that. I am NOT going to buy a Japanese breadbox after getting to know such good cars.

A teflon coat is nothing but a coat over the car which gives the car a more shining finish and lasts only a couple of washes. You don need a teflon coat for a new car as its already going to be shining new. Try to get rubber floor mats and mud flaps instead of this coat. Not worthy IMO.

And yes extended warranty can made any time before the third year. You will get a call from the dealer a week before your warranty expires after two years.

Well, my case is the opposite. We wanted a WagonR, but have to go in for the i10 as we need the car urgently. That is the same reason why we dropped the Figo. Besides, the i10 suits our usage.

OT- I wouldn't call the WagonR a Jap Breadbox.
