A problem has cropped up. Something to do with the documents AND the loan. Ford is unwilling to provide us an on-road loan and that is a big problem. The SP however told us that he will work something out and in the meanwhile I have contacted Axis Bank as they do provide upto 85% of the car's on-road price. The incessant rains also meant that I couldn't visit Maruti. Today's a clear day though, and I will be visiting the Maruti showroom in a couple of hours and will TD both the Wagon R and the Alto K10. If these guys confirm an on-road loan and are okay with the documents, the Wagon R it will be then. Fingers crossed! [:)]

I will NOT be driving the cars on the road myself. There's absolutely no way that can happen unless and until I turn 18. A TD for me is getting to know more about the car inside out-each and every minute detail, testing how comfortable it is, how stable it is and how good it looks. The only way I get near the gas pedal is when they start the car, I only slightly get to rev the thing a bit. And that's it. That's a TD for me. As far as the driving part goes, I rely on feedback from my dad and brothers. And I describe what they tell me.

Now, to the point. I did visit both showrooms today, and boy, both the SPs were missing! After telling me that they will be there, they both took a leave and went home! I was seriously offended this time. However, I did get to check the cars inside out once again, and being hungry for more, took up the opportunity. The new Wagon R is as always, fabulous. It is a complete package. And so is the Figo. And let me also add that now both these cars are on par for me. I like both of them equally, so I don't mind either of them coming to my house. My brother checked out both the cars for the first time and came away deeply impressed. So the decision has been made. The lowest quote coming first from either of the dealers, and the deal is sealed. If the Maruti chap offers the lowest down payment, it's good bye Figo! Though if the Ford salesman does manage to turn things around, I for one surely won't be coming home in a Maruti. I will come home in the Blue Oval. [cheers]

Here are a few pictures from my trip. Don't ask me why there are too less pictures (I had a flat battery) and why the Alto K10 is only snapped twice (trust me, it is rubbish and I was feeling embarrassed to even go near that car, forget snapping it.) TDs weren't available as they stated that the Wagon R demo car had gone out and my dad wasn't in a mood to TD the Figo late in the evening.

So what do you feel about the Figo ?
I think that clears your doubt, Shynish.
@Amaan, I seriously do not think that the Maruti Alto K-10 is rubbish.
I myself went to a Maruti dealer yesterday for a TD of a DZire,as we are contemplating the top end petrol, but sat in the Alto K 10 for 2 minutes, just for the fun of it.

Great Amaan!! I can completely understand why you got so obsessed with Figo. When I suggested Figo to my sis & bro-in-law they aparently rejected it with out even a second delay. They considered All new Wagon-R, i10, i20 etc. It took 3 days for me to make them to test drive Figo. And when they did, what I could hear on phone is that they have finalised on Figo [:)] We have bought the ZXi in white color and all are really happy with it. After all it was the successful Fiesta model internationaly! It can not wrong in India either.

Shynish- I like the Ford Figo more than the Wagon R, but the variant within our budget is on par with the Wagon R because of the comparative lack of features (Figo EXI vs Wagon R VXI). If our budget permits, then the Figo is definitely our first choice. The new Wagon R is quite good too, and I won't mind having that either.

Arkin- I say that the Alto is rubbish because it doesn't suit my requirements. And moreover, it's too small and cramped and flimsy for my liking. For a single bloke, yes, it is good. For a family, never.

Dhaya- Yes, it will be either of the two only. These are the final two choices. No more confusion. And yes, I'd like the Figo too but we'll have to go by our budget only (which is quite limited [cry])

As of today, things have being going the Wagon R's way. The Maruti salesmen have promised me a DP south of 70k, and the Ford SP has tried his best too, but has quoted more than 80k as down payment. That won't be possible for us. So right now, it's 60-Wagon R and 40-Figo. But I ain't going down without a fight. I will try my best to bring down the DP as much as possible. Do you think that approaching a nationalized bank will help? (e.g-SBI). Because I heard that they provide upto 90% of the car's on-road price, bringing the DP down to rock-bottom levels. Any suggestions on loan negotiations folks? And also, I'd like all of you to tell me what are the other extra expenses we will have to incur after the purchase of the car? (For example boot mats, sunfilms and what else?) And also, how much cash should we leave aside for accessories?

Awaiting your help!

Loan negotiations am no expert. Try getting other's help. And hey try getting floor mat , boot mats , sunfilms and few other accessories like idols , perfumes , car covers , seat covers as freebies from the dealer itself. You can try getting atleast some of the accessories as freebies. Apart from this maybe 30k for a decent ICE setup.
