Reliability wise though the scorpio is a reliable beast ,those graduating from a hatch might need to be careful with the clutch of the mhawk.
avoid riding the scorpio or the xuv in half clutch, since the clutch failure is a major niggle found among mhawk scorpios.
the scorpio can amble along without any accelerator input if in proper gearing thanks to the torque at lower revs.
Thanks superbad for sharing your views.[:)] Is the clutch problem a major niggle only in the scorpio or has that been reported even in XUV. Although I have been driving a Swift, I do not practice riding it half clutch. Here in Bangalore, the difference between both the cars is around Rs80,000. I don't mind paying this additional money and buy the XUV but I was just worried about the niggles and some of my friends suggested that Scorpio is far more reliable than XUV. I guess even if I eventually settle for either of the 2 cars I would be needing a lot of suggestions and feedback from you and fellow members on maintaing Mahindra cars in general.

The clutch failure is said to be the only worrying factor among the mhawk variants.

you could wait for some time till the W4 variant is launched. it is in pipeline ,various auto magazine sites have even got the details of the brochure too.

so if you have some paranoia/doubt about the electricals, i would suggest you choose the W4 variant of the XUV.

the refreshed scorpio would surely not have any discounts to speak off at the start that too is slated to launch by 2014.

if you can extend the budget for the XUV, i suggest you wait till the W4 is launched. this can also be more mod friendly as in you can choose you own setup for the ICE and navigation systems etc.

Hi Superbad,
I am pleased to inform that I have taken the delivery of a new Black Scorpio 2WD VLX last week. I will be starting a new thread on ownership very soon. I went in for the scorpio as I am not satisfied with the reliability issues with the XUV. Not that I am saying Scorpio is reliable but atleast for me it is a far more tested and reliable than the XUV. One of my friend is actually facing various issues with his XUV till now. I hope I have made the right decision by going for the Scorpio.

Thanks Superbad, I will indeed start my ownership review very soon as I am unable to do so right now because of my work pressure. I would need your valuable advice and suggestions in maintaining my car just like it is now even after a few years.

Had been to G3 motors to do a general checkup to address some issues.

The kat-kat sound when depressing the clutch when the engine is running(neutral) or set in motion in gears.

Some squeaks from empty rear seats when going at 40+ speeds on a flyover (up and down roads).

Issues resolved:
The kat -kat sound was associated to some problem in the bearing of the propeller shaft.
Cost: nil (under warranty).

The squeaks in the rear seats were resolved with a new seat assembly
Cost : rs 250

The clutch pedal was reset :
Cost : rs 150/-

Total cost: Rs 450/-(including taxes)

Observations :

The Kat- kat sound gone. the slight jerkiness when the clutch used to engage gears gone completely. car accelerates as new. the jerkiness used to cost a slight delay of some milliseconds. that is gone [:D]

All squeaks taken care of.

Result : happy with G3 motors. i always was [:)]

Superbad, nice to know that your beast is running like new. Do update with some photoes buddy. Is the kat kat sound inherent to all the scorpios or does it mean there is some major problem with the car. This is because I observed this even in the test drive car and also it is there even in my car. This happens only when the engine is running and when I depress the clutch. Do I need to get it checked immediately?

this is not a problem . it is the propeller shaft from what i know.
if it kat kat sound happens when you release the clutch in a hurry, then it is normal.
if it happens even when you take the car slow, then it might be an issue.

Thanks for clarifying my doubt superbad, no this happens only when I release the clutch in a hurry. In any case will get it checked during my first service just for the peace of mind[;)]

Nice Picture.

The beast deserves a bit more running and this thread some recent interior pictures, I guess.[embarass]
Happy motoring !
yeah the picture was a ramdom picture taken off the phone camera.

interiors are not clean so to say [embarass]

running will depend a lot of long drives.

we prefer public transport for local travelling since the traffic condition in mumbai has gone from bad to worse off late atleast in western suburbs. [frustration]

I understand that as my Scorpio too did spend a couple of days at Thane, somewhere on the ghodbandhar road a few months ago. I didn't enjoy driving in on those roads at all.
Might drive up again in the near future and hope to meet you then.[:)]

BTW, any plan for alloys?

had gone in for the customary scheduled service recently.

The Service advisor mentioned that the joined sandwiched layers of the air filter has separated which might result in ineffective use of air filter. i was suggested to replace the air filter.
it cost me 500 bucks approx [anger]. Other than that, the SA was always pushing for unnecessary treatments. one of it was brake service.

Overall though happy with the workmanship not happy with the SA.

next time onwards my aim will be to avoid him at any cost.

btw i posted today, to mention there was an incident with my scorpio.

An auto trying to negotiate the smallest of gaps banged up from the LHS.

before i can get down, the auto sped away.

tried to check the damage with a heavy heart, only to find there was no visible damage. pooff. i was relieved

the left OVRM took the impact on itself and just moved away on the outside.

put it back and drove as if nothing has happened. [:D]
