@Jayadev

Selection of the car of the year is based on how different and innovative it looks to people and not with its performance or VFM as these things will be known only after 2 years of use.

Yes people view Storm as a really different presentation from TATA breaking their regular look and though it is launched in few areas only, who ever has seen in directly or seen it in the pics might have got impressed with its unique looks I hope

Voted for Duster. Simply because that is the car that has created the biggest stir in its segment. It has overtaken all C2 segment sedans and SUVs and has proved again that a car with good all round abilities when priced well is sure to win the customers' hearts.

It was a close call between Ertiga and Duster. For me these two have taken the Indian Automotive market by Storm unlike the one which is named after one.(Pun intended) Ertiga is a very practical buy at an affordable price while Duster is that butchy looking SUV which surely pulls a string every time you see it. 2012 car of the year for me would be Duster just because if out of the two - if i had to own one, it would be the Renault Duster.
Hoping 2013 Car of the year is Ford Ecosport. Please price it right Ford from Day 1 and see it conquering the Indian market in no time.

Before opening the thread to view the contenders, I decided to vote either for Ertiga or Duster. Finally I voted for Duster because,
Ertiga had the following advantages even before the launch.
1. Maruti's reputation in all the areas( Sales, Sevice & Spare) in India.
2. Proven Engine which powers Swift, Dzire, SX4, for years.
3. Resale value of Maruti's Cars. ( This is a serious factor)
I would definitlely say Ertiga was born not just with a silver spoon, but little more than that. May be with a golden spoon or a Plantinum Spoon.
In case of Duster its a diffrent story.
Existing models of Renualt were just making it alive India. Duster Proved by itself without the above mentioned factors enjoyed by Ertiga..
My Vote goes for Duster.

+10000. Whenever a Maruti sells a car, it is not just a car that they sell or a car that user buys, but everything you mentioned above. Nice comparo mate. [;)]

My vote goes to the 'Renault Duster'.
In no time, this car has earned a great share in the Indian car market as well as in petrolhead's hearts. Everyone expects a Maruti to sell like hotcakes but despite being a new brand 'Renault', this car rules the territory!
Hats off Renault!
