Dear Tiago owners. A bit off topic, I was planning to buy a car, and the best package in my price range seems in Tiago. But I am seeing a lot of niggles here in forum. Give me your honest advice, should I go for Tiago or should I look somewhere else ?
Better to go with Hyundai Grand i10 only if you can afford Asta (O) variant.

After facing issues, like Engine Mountings being replace 3 times in a 8 months old diesel car done 5367 km, and TATA (dealership, CSM and even Sanand Plant technicians) having no answer to it.
Still there is weird noise while shutting off engine, which according to TATA is completely normal. Driver side AC vent rattled like hell on my expressway drive.

To add to more, my Diesel Tiago has refused to give more than 16.6 kmpl (as per MID) even on Expressway runs. Last two tftf showed 15.33 kmpl and 14.96 kmpl respectively (with 70% Highway runs, with ac and in city mode).
Before second service I was easily getting 19-21 kmpl (tftf) easily.

Hope you got what TATA is capable of.

Did my second service today at Concorde SC ORR. Its a new one and the experience was really good. There was slight sound coming from the bonet like some screw was loose. It was aptly fixed by SC. Cleaning was very good especially frim inside. They didn't charge a single rupee unlike KHT. Car is running issueless now.

Udit, personally I would recommend you to go with Tiago as its utter VFM, with superb music system, AC, nice ride quality. I have done 2000kms and Don't have any bothersome issue. But there are slight body vibrations at idle and pickup with AC is just about ok. These are not that bothersome and the positives are huge. If this really bithers you and can extend budget then would recommend i20 else for the money Tiago is your best bet.

RN13 is the latest ECU calibration version. I believe mine was updated when my HU was replaced for no reason [lol]. Off late, I notice considerable drop in vibrations overall, but it could be an after-effect of driving a Zoomcar Scorpio for 1000 KMs. I cannot comment on the "car shaking at 2nd gear" issue, may be you can get in touch with other owners in Delhi and check out their cars if possible. PM me if you need some contacts.
no i already have so much automotive groups at whatsapp, don't want to add another one :P if someone tells you the solution please update here.

anyways another issue that i faced was powerloss at 20-30kmph speeds :| the car didn't give any output and i had to wait 3-4 seconds and only after that the car accelerated.
there are issues with the engine.
tata has made a good looking car with many features but the engine is a big letdown. they still have a long way to go. i won't recommend this car just because of the engine issues.

also do you find it hard to start the car just because the key won't slot in without any efforts ?

I won't know the solution without knowing the problem [evil]. I didn't mean to add you to a whatsapp group, just thought of sharing a couple of owners from Delhi so you can talk or meet them.

I hope you are not comparing this with your Elantra & Verna [glasses]. Anyhow, this again is subjective and I have not tasted other engines in India to comment.

Initially yes, but as Gautam replied, it requires some run-in period of about 3 months or so [lol].

When I was test driving Zest SA told me engine block is cast iron, how about Tiago and Tigor is tata still using cast iron blocks or migrated to all aluminium blocks. The main reason for issues in tata cars is poor engine management system, its not just ECM(Its a vast subject).

As allhyundaicars said its time for TATA to concentrate on engines not on so many features. Those features listed on paper did not reflected in my test drive.

These days car makers become like mobile makers, so many companies once in two to three years face-lift after sixth year new model. Just adding some gadgets and realising to market. Are they really improving something no. Buyer feels new model has come, its new technology selling 4 to 5 year old car wasting money of more or less 3 lakh and buying new one. Similarly priced cars with less or more gadgets in each model buyers confused This car is VFM that car is not such discussions.

Take example of new Dzire MSIL says HEARTECT platform its manufacturer specific name and design, its not related to universal standards. 35% high tensile strength claimed, what a funny I have given in depth analysis on this HEARTECT platform in Baleno thread. Car business in India is not legitimate business any more.

Very valid points Suryaputhra. Tiago petrol engine is made of aluminum block and diesel made of cast iron.

I have faced this issue 3 times and this is the biggest con in Tiago. For me switching off AC kind of solves this problem but Tata should really find a solution to this issue else they would be wiped off market soon. Worst thing is we can't replicate and show this issue to ASC since it happens only at times. From last 400kms I have almost not faced this issue but this is a safety risk if it happens midway on the road. Tata has long way to go improving the drive trains especially Petrol.

These type of issues seen not only in Tata we have seen these problems in my brothers Porsche cayenne. Its high end luxury sports car, stalls suddenly, loss of power in no time. Numerous times it is lost power and stalled uphill and countless times in traffic. Do you know what Porsche ASS people told switch off the car 15 to 30 sec and ECM will reset and start.

Sometimes my Dzire's Idle will not come down even AC cuts off or switched off, These are the results from poor designed and tested cars.

Being a Mech engineer I am make and do yourself guy. When Tata entered car market in 90's I am desperately waiting for Indica. Indian maker we should respect them and also who buy their cars should be respected. Why depend on foreign brands, make in India. Some are obsessed with foreign brands they feel something there, real truth nothing. Some of the luxury car engines assembled in Force motors, BMW India factory do not have required no of certified engineers most of them Diplomas. You have money OK buy BMW where and how its manufactured they don't see.

Tata should concentrate on four or five cars with fail proof design instead of releasing so many models once popularity gains in all respects they can venture into other segments but the real problem is they lose race because of market trend which I discussed in my previous post

Please go thorough the pics of yesterdays run on the trichy road to coimbatore via somnur-mangalam road.Roads were state highways with fair share of traffic.usage without AC.I doubt the MID went to sleep & then woke up at the fag end of trip.pic 1 is at 30kmpl 3.7km, 2nd pic at 45.5km showing 29.6kmpl & the last one at 46.8 kms showing 28.4kmpl.

used eco mode & around 50% of run was in 4th gear.

Maybe ECU update is the reason for it. Check if ECU update is available for your XE with TASS.

1. Please get your Harman software updated to V1.7 if not already done. You may also want to factory reset both Harman and your phone (at least delete and re-pair ConnectNext).
2. The switch that activates both has gone kaput. Please get it replaced under warranty (related post).
3. I know Tiago can be very loud at times during reverse gear shift but if it bothers you very much, please let TASC know and have them check the internals.
