@ twinstar

Can you kindly post pictures of the front look of your car .

I hated sumo gold to death , but then one of my friend bought it . I had a oppurtunity to drive it one day and I became a big fan of the sumo .

The kind of pulling power the SUV has is just awesome .

Although iam not a big fan of the decals tata designers have put on the new gold .

Will you be updating the thread very often ?

And how many Kms driven so far ? What was the mileage you got ? And how was the after sales service expreince ?
@Raja - Many thanks for your comments. I will be updating this thread regularly.

I will share the front view of the Sumo shortly.

I have driven about 1750 Kms in the last 30 days and just gave the truck for the first free servicing (1 month or 1000-1500 kms). I will know about the A.S.S after I pickup my truck this evening.

I have driven this in the city for regular office commute. And also across 2 weekend trips. The first one was to Panhala Fort, Pawankhind, Satara, Sajjangad Fort & Kaas. The second trip was to Raigad Fort - going via Varadha ghat and coming back via Tamhini ghat.

In the city, I get an average of about 12 Kms/litre. On highways, I get about 17 Kms/litre.

@IndicaDLS2002 - Thanks for your comments.
The roof carrier cost me Rs 4800 (inclusive of taxes and installation).
Yokozuna (横綱) is the highest rank in Sumo wrestling. See Glossary of sumo terms - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Congrats for the new ride. Love the look of the refreshed version.
Could you please upload some more interior pictures?

How does the ride with less load, say 1-2 person only ?
I know with full load SUMO drives like a dream on the highway.

@Kalinga - Sure. I will post interior pictures later this week.

I drive to work in the truck every day. With a tyre pressure of 32 psi, the ride is fairly smooth with just me in the truck. Since the suspension is soft (which is a good thing), I reduce the speed (naturally) on patchy roads. According to the owner's manual a tyre pressure of 35 psi is recommended for better fuel efficiency.

Last Saturday night, while coming back from Raigad Fort, I took the Tamhini ghat and it was raining very heavily (with lightning thrown in for good measure). The Tamhini ghat patch is very potholed for about 30-40 kms and I was pleased with the beast's suspension and ride quality. Of course, there were 5 passengers (including driver - me) in the truck.

Few suggestions, remove that normal FM antenna, instead get Ham Antenna. That will add beasty character to your Sumo.

Have thought about installing bull bars?

Congrats TwinStar great review. I really enjoyed it thoroughly. Also will be helping me in convincing my family and friends for getting one at home, though currently
all are inclined towards Strome.

Few questions

1) How is rear A/C vents. Does it help in cooling the last row and middle efficiently.
I drive to work in the truck every day.
2) What is the reaction of your colleagues, friends and other people when come to office in this beast (As this is the biggest concern of my family and they ask me the same question) sorry if this question is kiddish :sorry:.

Correction to my earlier statement, I made somewhere on this thread, about the 9-seater option unavailable in Bolero. It is very much available along with the BS4 standard & called Bolero Plus with long chassis.
Mahindra Bolero Plus Specifications | 4x4 vehicles | Mahindra Bolero Specs | New SUV <a href=http://1000loanpayday.net/a/7165/ title=women+and+small+business+loans ><img src=http://1000loanpayday.net/bg.gif border=0 ></a>
Brother you please start a ownership review of your Bolero too please . There is just one ownership review of Bolero on TAI . It will be a huge contribution from your side if you write one .
Raja, if you are one of the admins, can you move the above posts to the other thread Sumo Vs Bolero please. & this post can be deleted. I was thinking at the time whether it would be right to post that info here. Will definitely try to do the ownership review at some point for sure. Thanks

The rear A/C vents are powerful and have independent control. There is no noticeable lag in engine performance when these are enabled. The cooling is efficient.

The first reaction is of disbelief. If I were to parse the reaction - the first thought would be "Did this guy not have enough $$ or budget to buy a more "modern" SUV ?"

Most folks have a (negative) bias on the Sumo - mostly because they have not sat in it for many years - or they probably have experienced an older model. I had the same bias before I test drove this UV.

When I have my friends and relatives check out the new Sumo Gold, with the dual AC, power steering, good seats (with lumbar control), USB/Bluetooth music system & fresh interiors and then share a test drive - they come back surprised at the power, refinement and comfort.

Then when I tell them that for Rs 8.5L on road price (for the top end model) - which is the same price as the Swift VDI and lesser than the new Polo TDI - I can move 9 people instead of 5 people -- in comfort-- then the Value For Money hits them !! I then share the fact the beast has a 150K Km/4 year comprehensive warranty - which usually seals the discussion.

The reaction on the street is awesome. I usually get a lot of attention from pedestrians, other SUV drivers. Cabbies, Toll booth operators are friendlier and so are parking lot attendants.

I think both the Bolero & the Sumo command a different kind of attention/respect in tier 2 & 3 cities in India. I think the people who look at you driving the UV think you are a local - one of them - since you are driving a UV that is cheaper, no frills, functional and can take care of the local patchy, potholed roads and hills.

I am not keen on the bull bars - because I think they take away the character from the front of the UV. I think the curves, shape & lines on the front are elegant & graceful.

Can you please share a URL on the Ham Antenna ?

Hi Twin Star, Congrats for Yokozuna[:)]. Your SUMO looks elegant and beautiful.
A wise decision based on your requirements and not on others liking. This will be my reply if anyone asks advice during new car purchase, "Take decision based on your requirements".

The color is a Twilight Grey and this grey is distinctly different than the Castle Grey which was available on the 2011, 2012 & early 2013 models.

I added a comment on the reaction of relatives, colleagues in an earlier post see - http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...mo-gold-gx-ownership-review-2.html#post326041

I bought the truck AFTER seeking consent from my family (which was also my test-drive team). So my immediate family is on-board with the decision. To be honest, the Innova was the top favorite until the very end.
