Dear Pravin
I was tied up with some commitments, I could not react to your post. Well as far as engine rpm is concerned it is a low rpm engine that any enthusiastic driver would love as there will be less humming at high speed. Sumo Gold catches 80 kmph at around 1600 and 100 at around 2000 rpm. These values are not accurate as it is just my observation. I work outside India and drive my sumo only when I am on vacation.[:)]

Tata sumo is a great car, infact we have 5 years renting sumos for our everyday office use, it's a great man and goods cariier. We used to carry our office delivery with these sumos, but unfortunately the kolkata police is always looking for sumos in road to give cases and unnecessary disturbances to commuters. We have moved away from sumos for our office use, infact in kolkata sumos are only used by private rental agencies and shuttles to carry IT peoples, very private owners use it. Kolkata police has become menace to tata car owners.

That was not movus/grande but prado.
I missed the brake lamp which I added later howzaaat?
I have lot of reasons to love sumo. In place of a Sumo gold GX there are N number of cars that society respect better are available. But none can be the same as that of Sumo gold GX.

Yes indeed.
Sumo is a good vehicle

Side Profile design is very nice. Its very interesting to see how the total look have been changed by only change a slight alteration.
I think it just looks simple. But for Tata it may not be simple?[confused]

I think it looks simple but for Tata it may not be so....

Hello Masters and Twinstar. Just checking -
How're the trucks performing?
How's the mileage now?
How many kilometers have you done?
What's your average monthly run?
How comfy is it to drive in the city?
Any niggles? whether in the quality of service provided or in the vehicle itself?
How do the vehicles perform fully loaded in the Ghats? any tips on how to handle Ghats in the Sumo?
Are you satisfied with the buy?

Hello Sridutt
My Sumo Gold is performing extremely well for my purpose. Tata had called it back once for a potential problem in A/C. but it was ok.
As I am working outside India I have limited use. In a time span of 7 months it has run only 6000 kms. The longest drive I have done in a stretch is 700 kms. and for no doubt it is a cool mile muncher. The fuel efficiency I had in that drive was 13.89 kms per liter. That was not completely a highway cruising, it was a mix for I had to cross many small and some big towns in that drive. So I believe it is possible to achieve nearly 15 kmpl.
The driving is more fun on the highways. However there is no issue in city driving as well.
Service from Tata is improving. For me it was 3 visits to service center so far. For first scheduled service I took it there and I had a good experience. second time it was the call back and person from TASS came by bus (45 Km far), took my vehicle and returned it after check-up. Third time I had issue of turn signals not working, this time also TASS person came took the vehicle and returned it after fixing issue (hazard warning switch was replaced). There was a rattling sound from the dash board which was also fixed. Each time I had call from TASS HQ Pune asking me if I was happy and they asked me to rate the service center.
The torque of this CR4 engine is too good. So ghat road is not an issue t all. Overtaking trucks in ghat is after waiting for some time behind them for a traffic free slot is normally an issue with many vehicles while for this it is a fun. It simply pulls quick. In my vehicle what I do is I apply full throttle immediately after a gear shift for few moment and reduce the throttle progressively. Ghat is no issue.
I had a habit of resting left hand on gear lever. This vehicle has a rattling noise from gear lever when I do that, so now I quit doing that. Another thing is I hear a noise like air making a whirlpool when I cross 60 on speedo. It is either from ORVM or the wheel caps. I just dont want to bother on it as I am worried the service people will make some other problem if they try to fix this. If you have more than 5 on board you have to limit your speed to 80 unless it is a straight road.
Tubeless tyres (mine with Nitrogen) is good. Air con is good. Engine has zero objection when you turn AC on! even when you are on steep hill. I love this AC. Suspension -though leaf spring at rear- is very good. It gives almost similar comfort of Innova (my brother has one).
I am very happy with the vehicle. I am 6'1" tall with matching shirt size. I have less choice of cars. I like the roomy cabin atmosphere of Sumo. As for driving on highways Tata Sierra (I have one) still remains my favorite car.

Sorry folks for not being active on this thread. The truck was getting repaired in a garage ..thanks to an accident I had last year. I had to replace the chassis and the RTO & Insurance procedures took their fair amount of time.

The Yokozuna is now back in action at 21760 Kms. I took it back home earlier this evening. I should be active once again on this forum. With the monsoons on their way, I have a bunch of trips planned. I also have my experiences to share on RTO procedures for changing your chasis and some insurance tips :-)
