Hi Fiends
This is my first attempt to write a review. I am inspired by the way how people are sharing those little little things from their experience and how helpful it is for everyone. This being my first attempt it might not be that useful but …
As an introduction let me list the vehicles I have used for long term (more than 6 months and 5000kms) Premier Padmini, Mahindra CL 500 MDI jeep, Maruti 800, Zen, Omni, Sumo spacio, Tata Sierra, Toyota corolla, Nissan Xtrail etc . I have owned the above vehicles. Now the vehicles I have not owned but have driven lot are Nissan Tiida, Toyota LC Prado, Chevrolet Aveo, Nissan sunny(not the current model), T.Innova, Qualis, Zen estilo, MM 540 jeep, Hyundai i20, Accent, Sumo Victa, etc
I am 6 foot 1 inch and a weight matching to it. Of all the vehicles I like CL 500MDI for off roading, Sierra for driving position and pleasure, Nissan Tiida (current day Sunny?)for spacious sedan, Nissan xtrail for daily use family car and Omni (also 800 for a good extend) for short trip day to day careless rough use. I have been fastest in Xtrail [172 kmph (top speed of vehicle 180)].Currently I own a Sierra nonturbo 1998 and a very recently bought Sumo Gold . Sumo gold? That too now? I want to answer this question hence this review
It was my decision not to spend more than Rs 10L. I want to use this as a 5 seater but with an option of taking 2 more whenever there is need (I think it is a fact in Indian situations especially on a trip!). From my past experience I believe when any vehicle is bought the top end model of that should be bought, else go for a lower profile vehicle. (Also I have seen people converting low end version to higher end ones. For various reasons I think is not a good idea) Considering above facts my options were limited to Sumo Gold, Mahindra Bolero and Xylo H4 (which is not a top end one of Xylo but goodies equivalent to top end ones of Sumo and Bolero). Sonalika Rhino was omitted for being less popular.
Of these first eliminated was Xylo H4. This was because I believed that when compared to Bolero zlx and Sumo gold the extra money being taken (almost 100K) is not well justified. Compared to SG what I found technically significant is the multilink rear suspension on the X-H4. Though it is not as good as independent suspension it is theoretically better than leaf spring suspension where the main improvement is expected to be in the body rolling department. However on all reviews I read the body roll of X-H4 is marginally or no better. Then why should I pay extra? If X-H4 was offering ABS like safety features at that price it would have been nice.. (now it is optional). Xylo looks definitely better but nothing magnificent like Scorpio. And I dropped Xylo against Sumo Gold.
Remaining were Bolero and Sumo gold. In front view Bolero scores much much better than sumo. No doubt.
From these pictures (courtesy to TAI) I feel bolero is pleasant looking straight or bit upwards while sumo is looking down bit like an introvert, less pleasant, less confident. This puts down customers I feel. However when we see the complete vehicle from third angle it becomes less significant (see picture below) Can anyone agree?
