Basically AMC And extended warranty are bought at the time of buying the vehicle. If the 1st owner bought AMC and extended warranty till 4th year, within this 4 years whoever owns the vehicle 2 nd or 3rd owner anyone will have that applicable.

In my case the vehicle bought by 1st owner on feb 2009 and it is applicable till feb 2013. I bought on jan, so had the extended warranty till feb.

And what about AMC. Is it possible to get an AMC on a second hand vehicle. Also does it makes sense for going with AMC?

No, its not possible to get an AMC separately. Even for the 1st owner after 4th year or so the AMC is not applicable.

@ hari.d thanks for the information. It is a real big help. Currently I have a zen and Planning to buy a Bigger SUV in next 6 months. Initially I was thinking of going for a new SUMO Gold GX which is a top end model and its costing me INR 850000 in Pune. But after reading your thread I think I will for a used safari may be 2010-11 model which I should be around 7 in a good condition. Can you tell me anything about the engine life. I mean till how many thousand Kms the engine can be good condition, also is it a good option to go for a safari which has clocked more than 50000 kms.

Definitely you can go for a used safari. This engine can last at least 3 lac kms without opening it.

For 6-6.5 lacs you can get a nice 2010/2011 safari under 50000kms, if you try patiently you can even close below 6 lacs as the resale value of safari is very poor. Start looking right now for any odd safari's with less mileage.

If you have budget of 7 lacs, max close a deal at 5.5 or 6 lacs and keep this 1 lac for any unexpected maintenance.

Normal expenses expected on a safari:
Max amount :
Suspension (20k)
Clutch (12k)
Regular services : 4- 7K depends.

Update @26000 Kms.

After the last shirdi trip taken by my uncle, my after installed minda trumpet type horns are not working properly. The nice skoda type sound became like a rural town bus honking from a long distance.

I tried opened the front grill by unscrewing but unable to take it out completely as the bottom part of it is some lock kind of mechanism. With the grill half opened found out one of the horn wire is cut down and hanging. Then i took the hanging wire and removed some part of plastic out of it and connected with the horn as i don't have the soldering machine with me. Still the horn has not improved.Basically one of the high or low tone is not working
.
Waited for almost 2 weeks and in the evening tea time yesterday shown it to a local auto electrical workshop. He too opened the grill by unscrewing but not removed it completely by opening the lock mechanism in the bottom. He removed the wire wrapping and fixed it using a small pin which is inserted into the horn. Still the same sound.

Puzzled, he removed that horn using the spanner to check that. To our surprise the horn is full of water. After the shirdi trip, my uncle's driver took it to a local garage for water wash. It seems they sprayed hell amount of water into the horn which made it dysfunction.

After removing the water, check the horn and got almost 80% of the original sound. He advised to wait for some time as once the water logging is completely dried out the original sound will be back.

Charged 30 rs for the work.[:)]

Same also happened with me after every rainfall, if the vehicle is kept in open and standing. Just blow the horn 3-4 times and sound come back to normal. But may be its the water wash which causes it to block the sound. Horns are waterproof but what happen if someone fill the trumpet with water.

Guyz,

Took my safari to a AC mechanic near pallavaram (Where my friend serviced his indica's AC).Actually i took it to service the cooling coil so that the AC is cleaned and the blower throw will be back to normal. On opening the front grill, we found the AC fan is totall collapsed. The motor got melted and jammed. Before my uncle's shirdi trip, his driver took it to his known AC mechanic and found the AC fan jammed. Instead of replacing it they did some changes in fuse and newly plugged a AC relay to get it connected with the compressor. So the vehicle AC was running for the last 5000kms without the AC fan working.

Whenever i switch on the rear roof AC i will get a loud noise inside the bonnet for 3 or 4 seconds and it will disappear.

He replaced the AC fan with new one and removed all those AC relay's and wiring. He said the AC will working efficiently than before and for complete servicing of cooling coil i need to take the vehicle in the morning itself and will take a complete day.

For replacing AC fan he charged 2500rs parts + labour.

For Complete servicing the AC coil he estimated 3500rs (Cleaning coil + AC Gas refill + Compressor oil change + labour). Planning to do this after 3 months once the summer starts.

I was about to say that Hari. Make sure to do that before summer. BTW, do you have sun control film or removed it?

Sethu sir,
I just feel like if i do that just before summer will have more cooling for the complete summer. Again its just a feel and more over don't want spend 3.5k for this before the year end. As it will make me think the vehicle incurs more maintenance cost. Once Jan comes i will be completing 1 year with safari and want to have good records with maintenance till then. Looks wise isn't it [:)]. Hope you are smiling there.

A stitch a time save nine. Wouldn't this work kept for 3 moths can make some other damage?
Actually the cooling effect is perfect but the blower throw is less in the selected number. Even if it gets blocked more than now, anyway with that service the AC is going to be completely cleaned up. So can wait for some more time.

Update @ 27500kms.

Guyz, went to Kolli hills and Namakkal last saturday & Sunday.Actually it is supposed to be a funfilled trip but the rains played the spoilsport. One of my colleague's marriage reception was on last Sunday in namakkal. So we 3 of our friends in office planned to have a trip to kolli hills on Saturday and then reaching namakkal for the marriage reception on sunday.

We are all busy planning the trip and eagerly awaiting for Saturday. But on Friday night the rain started from nowhere even though there was a forecast for storm. We planned to start @5.30AM morning on Saturday. But the continuous rain delayed our trip and started at 6.00 from my home in Saidapet when the rain stopped. On reaching Kathipara, i picked up my 1st colleague and the rain picked up again.Picked up 2nd colleague from tambaram @ 6.45.

From there on its rain rain rain, our guess was something like as the storm is supposed to be crossing the shore in the coastal line there will not be any rain or atleast good amount in the interior part of TN i.e Kolli hills and namakkal. We maintained constant speed of 80-90.
Had our breakfast near melmaruvathur.

We crossed Tindivanam,Villupuram, ulundurpet, attur still the same. Stopped for a tea break and inquired about the rain in kolli hills in a local shop and also simultaneously on other line with the bridegroom. All said the same word.

We now know that there is no chance of going to the temple and the falls in Kolli hills.Still don't want to waste the trip, so decided to climb the hills. Its 70 hair pin bends and the scenery is very pleasant to view. The rain got severe and we reached the top atlast.Took almost an hour time, got down in solakadu town and finished lunch. Relaxed 30 mins and started the drive down to namakkal.

Now the pictures.

My colleagues after having breakfast.
