I think the quality issues is leading to these disasters.Even MSIL is doing a lot of cost cutting in their current models,This could be one reason of fire being ignited.

Below is a statement and videos captures by an eye witness, Mr.Shyam Rao, who personally saw the Tata Nano turning into flames within mere a few seconds.

Mr.Shyam Rao said:
Well, it was early Sunday morning in Chennai at around 7:30ish at he junction of Bazullah road and North Boagh roads. I was a mere spectator to this unfortunate incident and not the owner and hence, I have no idea as regards to the age of car, etc. The first few snaps clearly show smoke devoloping in the engine bay and getting thicker. The first video shows the events before the sparks ignited the fire in the second video. This one was short as this happened right next to a Petrol pump and hence when it(the Nano) went up in flames, people panicked running helter skelter for their lives fearing a blast and a larger tragedy.

I recall a similar incident in early 90′s when Tata Estate was launched and my collegemate’s father had purchased one. It went up in flames due to electrical fault and was duly replaced free of cost at that time, but the incident kind of dwells around Tata’s quality w.r.t their electricals being jinxed. It is quite sad that though nearly 2 decades have passed since I fist witnessed a Tata car burning, they still haven’t seem to have learnt from the past, unfortunate! I am a hardcore car n bike man and it sucks to see what i did see. Anyways, I hope they sort it out before someone gets hurt. (Courtesy: Indiancarsbikes.in)

A Tata Nano caught fire in the northern suburb of Goregaon in Mumbai on Saturday night (November 10). There were three occupants, including a child in the car, according to an eyewitness. No one was injured in the incident. According to a security guard of a residential building in front of where the incident occurred, the car had stalled before it caught fire. The fire was triggered from near the engine compartment, according to the security guard, who claimed he had alerted the driver on seeing signs of fire near the rear right rear wheel of the car (the Nano’s engine is at the rear).
