Tata Motors to buy Ford’s Sanand plant

xford-manufacturing-plant-1633692027-1647499474.jpg.pagespeed.ic.iGMHLf1m_K.jpg

The High Power Committee constituted by the state government is going to approve this proposal soon. However, whether the benefits that were given to Tata Motors during the setting up of the Nano plant will be given this time or not, it remains to be seen. Ford India has so far invested Rs 4,500 crore in setting up this plant, which has a capacity to manufacture 2.4 lakh units per annum and 2.7 lakh engines per year.
Let us tell you that Tata Motors already has a plant in Gujarat, which is very close to the Ford India plant. Earlier, Tata Motors was also trying to buy Ford’s plant in Tamil Nadu. Tata Motors does not have a single plant in Tamil Nadu. According to a report, Tata Motors has already met the Tamil Nadu government to buy Ford India’s Chennai plant.

Tata Motors’ portfolio includes the Tata Nexon, Harrier and Safari in the SUV segment, while the hatchback and sedan segment includes the Tata Tiago, Tigor and Altroz. The company aims to add a total of 10 electric vehicles to its lineup by the year 2025. The company has already launched two electric cars Tata Nexon EV and Tata Tigor EV in this electric vehicle.

It is believed that to do this, the carmaker will have to increase its production capacity and that is why the company is planning to buy Ford India’s plants. Currently, the company is expanding its SUV portfolio for the Indian market and has launched a new micro-SUV Tata Punch and it is also getting a great response.

In this plant, the company produced its last car in October. Taking the decision to stop production, Ford India had said that production will be stopped at the Sanand plant by the fourth quarter of 2021 and the Chennai plant by the second quarter of 2022. The company manufactures the EcoSport models in Chennai, while the Figo, Aspire and Freestyle models are made in Sanand.

Ford India will continue to operate the Sanand Engine Export Plant with 500 employees. In addition, 100 employees will continue to serve for customer care and parts distribution, to continue to support the business in India. According to Ford India, about 4,000 employees are expected to be affected by its decision. The company is considering a compensation package to protect its employees from losses.

Ford had told that the company has been making losses in India for the last 10 years, due to which the company has lost more than 2 billion dollars. The company’s sales in India have been declining continuously and due to the slowdown in the car market in the last few years, there is no prospect of business growth. Due to all these reasons, the decision has been taken to stop production.

Tata Motors has beaten all odds by posting record car sales despite the ravages of the pandemic and the semiconductor shortages that have caused worldwide disruptions to production.

  • Tata Motors has asked suppliers to prepare for 15,000 Nexons per month
  • The manufacturer is targeting sales of 50,000 units per month next fiscal
  • Tata’s sales overtook Hyundai’s in December 2021
“The last two years have been difficult for the auto industry and seeing Tata Motors grow two-and-a-half times is something that makes me proud,” said Shailesh Chandra, managing director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

The Mumbai-based auto major launched the model in 2016 under its impact design philosophy.

"This is indeed a historic milestone for Tata Motors as Tiago is the first car to complete this milestone in a short span. "We are confident that the Tata Tiago will continue to play an integral part in our New Forever range and will enhance our market performance in the Indian auto industry," he added.

Over the years, Tata Motors has constantly kept the Tiago family refreshed with various technological interventions.

Currently, Tiago, with its BS-VI compliant engine is an important part of the company's new Forever Range and is being offered in two avatars -- Tiago and Tiago NRG in 14 trims.

Too much use of the word 'S'!! Will the launch concept be named with the same letter S.
Maybe it will be the new Sierra?
Or a electric sedan based on the Gen 2 ALFA platform or preview of the Third gen SIGMA platform?
