Tata Nano very likely to launch in Indonesia in 2013; 8 product launches planned

News from Indonesia today. The automotive market this year will be crowded with the arrival of new cars from India especially from Tata who will come in the form of ‘PT Tata Motors Indonesia’.

The company will launch various vehicles in various segments from the second quarter of this year.

Tata Motors Indonesia President, Mr. Biswadev Sengupta said that they are interested in the Indonesian automotive market as the growth of the domestic auto sector was enormous. “Indonesia’s automotive market is still resilient to the crisis, the future will be very promising,” he claims.

He says he was not afraid to compete with Japanese auto manufacturers that have mastered the automotive market in Indonesia. “Our market is different, after all, we want to build the Tata brand in Indonesia,” he opines.

As the third largest automobile manufacturer in India, Tata will take about seven to eight products to Indonesia this year. The products will be targeting both, the commercial vehicle segment, and passenger cars segment (hatchback). “The hatchback segment is growing rapidly in Indonesia and we will go with two to three products in this segment,” Mr. Sengupta says. We suspect it could be the Nano, the Indica and the Indica Vista.
Meanwhile, in the commercial vehicles front, Tata will introduce three products in the pickup segment – the Tata Super Ace, Tata Ace Ex, and the Tata Xenon RX.

An assembly plant in that region is also being mulled this year. This plant is targeted to operate in two years.

Tata is also looking for a number of local component providers for the automobile assemblies. The plan is for about 40% local components in cars from Indonesia.

In the meantime, Tata will sell cars imported from Indian factories. The Tata Nano which is on the probables for Indonesia this year will command a higher asking price as the burden of import and sales tax on luxury goods will fall on it.

In order to support sales, Mr. Sengupta said that Tata will set up 10-15 dealerships based in Java and Bali to begin with.

Tata Motors considering a 1 billion Euro investment in Romania?

The largest Indian auto maker, Tata Motors is reportedly considering a full fledged production facility in Romania, the homeland of Dacia.

According to the report by Dailybusiness.ro, Tata Motors is interested in investing in an industrial park named Tetorom 3. The third phase of the industrial park promoted by Cluj County Council (CCC) has a total industrial land of 154 hectares in the village of Jucu, near Cluj, Romania.
Report suggests that Tata Motors is negotiating a €1 billion investment with CCC but due to the manufacturer’s request for discretion in the process, there is no official comment from the county authorities. However, it is learnt that the Indian auto maker is considering a huge investment on a plant which could sprawl over 24 hectares of land in Jucu.
The proposed plant is expected to be a full fledged production facility which could cater to passenger cars, commercial vehicles and buses. The plant could source the components from the local vendors which could give them tax benefits.
With the new plant in place, Tata Motors can build the next generation Nano which will comply with European quality and safety norms along with CKD operations of Manza, Safari and Telcoline UVs. The commercial vehicle lineup would include the Prima trucks which were developed in association with Daewoo.

Tata Motors plans to sell Nano cars in Malaysia

Tata Group's airline plans in tie-up with Air Asia is not just the only news emerging out of the two partners.

While Air Asia will help Tatas dust their nearly 20 year dream of reentering aviation, the company will also allow Tata Motors to step up their reach in Malaysia, Livemint reported

Tata Motors will launch first its Nano car in Malaysia and take other vehicle brands such as Ace, Magic and Winger. A formal announcement is expected soon on the venture.

Tata Motors has hit a jackpot overseas with its acquisition of luxury car maker Jaguar LandRover. While the success of JLR has helped generate profits for Tata Motors, the Indian unit that makes volume vehicles is struggling. In January, the company sold less than half of the number of vehicles it sold in January of 2012.

The Malaysia plan could expand its reach in the southeast Asian market, largely untapped by Indian automakers.

Egypt to invite Tatas for setting up auto plant,

Egypt has initiated talks with the Tata group to set up an automobile manufacturing facility and a hotel chain in the African country, and the delegation will meet the Tata group on Wednesday to take it forward.

"We will be meeting senior officials from the Tata Group to discuss investments in both automobiles and hotels segment", Osama Saleh, Egyptian minister of investment & trade told ET.

Saleh, who's in India as part of the Egypt's president Mohamed Morsi's three-day visit to the country to discuss bilateral trade and investment ties, said Egypt is keen on the Tata group setting up a production facility jointly with existing state-owned company. This is Morsi's first visit after Egypt's transition to the democratic regime last year after the dictatorship of Hosni Mubarak was overthrown after 30 year of rule. "We do not have any Indian automobile manufacturer in Egypt...We import two-wheelers from Bajaj Auto... So now we hope to see Tatas manufacturing in Egypt", said Saleh.

Saleh said the official delegation will also discuss investment in hotel sector with the Tata Group. The business delegation accompanying the President inked pacts in the chemicals sector. India has invested about $2.5 billion in Egypt and is the seventh-largest trading partner of The country.

Egypt is also keen on bilateral cooperation in energy sector and Saleh will also meet representatives of Indian oil firms on Wednesday.

Tata motors should concentrate on the Domestic market, their market is on a downward spiral! They rely too much on "INDICA". Its time they come up with some innovation!
