Re: After One Year - Manza Ownership Experience

Selection process cont...

i 20 - Its way too expensive (like Jazz before the price cut) for a hatch back and the fact that it is considered as one of the cars in my combi option, deleted from the list.

Punto - Could not digest the looks.

Figo - Droped after several reviews and a close look at the car owned by a colleague.

Vista - Droped
(this was one year ago and no Sedan class - only drivetech4 at that time)

Wagon R - Several issues in new Wagon R in net reviews.

i10 - Finally this was droped because only top models of this car was attractive to me and on second thoughts it was not passing.

Now a second look at Safari and Aria and still no change in my earlier decision. So looking at other alternatives.

Scorpio - Looks strong and well built and a responsive engine.
But whenever I think of a Scorpio, I don't know why but I am seeing an image of a politician with black sun glass and wearing a big shall is coming out of the door.
Thats strange but I could not stop that image flashing infront of me every time when ever I think of a Scorpio.

Thought of Grande but droped that within no time.

Reviews of Yeti and Skoda was not giving me confidence to spend a huge amount. Further its size is too small for SUV. Almost like a Fabia.

Finally decided to go for a big car or Sedan type and then wait for an SUV moment later.

Now the usual confusion - Petrol or Diesel.

Since the right SUV is not in sight, it seemed as a better option to go for a Diesel Sedan.

@autosafari,:agree: i 20 price is higher than almost all entry level sedans.

Punto looks are supplemented by low GC.

Ford cars come with highest ASS cost, like having food in silver plates, then spending more amount on cleaning & securing the utensils than the cost of food. when I was in 12th std, [Maruti 800 era]there was a story in the English textbook, telling how Ford made money out of nothing, during severe economic recession. I have learnt the lesson well at that time only

You are absolutely correct on scorpio.

Re: After One Year - Manza Ownership Experience

Finally which Car ?

After closing in on Diesel Sedan, it was relatively an easy job.

To say a long story in short,

selected Manza

It took almost 10 days to decide on the trim level - Aqua, Aura, Aura ABS and Elan.

Mind says Elan

Again, the SUV factor.
So decided to save money and it was Aqua finally.

Digression is always welcome my dear Xover, especially in long narrations like this to make it lively.

Safari Storme: I was always a fan of Safari design and styling.

Happy to see that Storme retain the Safari lines.
Inspite of removing the spare wheels from rear, its looking nice.

Dropping that name Merlin was another relief.

Just waiting to see Storme and hope for (a la Indigo to Manza) quantum leap in quality.

Buying Experience:

This should be a unique buying experience.

Not a recommended practice.
Do it on your own risk.

I have ordered the car over phone [:)]
No TD
No PDI
I have not gone to the show room at all.

Car was door delivered to my Home.

(One guy came to my office to confirm the model and colour, collect the documents and cheque.)

Re: After One Year - Manza Ownership Experience

Thanks lxi.

After deciding on Manza, I called the nearest TATA authorised dealer in Vapi.

What a response!!!

My phone call was transfered multiple times to various persons and all of them were clueless. I felt like I am trying to talk to a group of people who are lethargic and are not interested in selling a car.

Finally one person asked for my e mail id and phone number.

No mails recieved, no SMS and no return phone call.

Did not felt like calling them again.

I was busy with my work and could not even think of wasting time with TATA Sales persons.

{Since there is no Authorised car showroom in Daman, we can get a car from any State and get it registered in Daman.}

Then I got this person's phone number from a colleague - Nikunj from HDFC.

If we are taking an HDFC car loan, he will arrange to negotiate a good deal and also agreed to Door deliver the car.

After talking to him over phone, I decided to with his offer and asked him to proceed.

He sent a person to collect the documents and all paper work was over within 2-3 days.

Booked the Car with WASAN Motors, Mumbai (200 km away)

Colour was selected after seeing the e brochure (and I have seen a Manza with this colour in Bangalore one year ago - one year before my Purchase)

Just plain trust in TATA Motors & Nikunj (even he is not going to Mumbai but coordinating over phone from Vapi)

Finally the car - TATA Manza Quadrajet Aqua Euro IV in Monarch Red reached our home on 26th Feb 2011.

My family is happy after seeing Manza and they liked the colour very much. [:D]

Then there is an issue - a problem with my eye and a minor operation is required. So I cannot drive for sometime - at least for a month.

Re: After One Year - Manza Ownership Experience

One thing I noted about the TATA SHOWROOM/TASS is that they don't hide anything [Satyameo Jayate , believers], be it their lethargy, lack of knowledge, hesitation, dilly dally, delay, sympathy., If they are pathetic, they won't hide it just to sell the car.

Their this attitude is nullified by TATA's wonderful machines.

I hope that your eye must have been cured .
