There are a few things which have unknowingly developed as a habit of mine:

- Never allowing anyone to close the doors too loud.

- Dusting off the shoes before entering inside the car.

- Checking handles manually in spite of locking doors with remote.

Addition:

- You clean the car from wherever possible, including fuel filling lid (inside).

- You thoroughly clean the dirty car inspite of knowing that it is going to rain again in a few minutes.

This one just happened with me sometime back.

24. Curse and shout at the guards at office/malls who slam the doors and dicky's after checking. <Big Issue in my life>
I shout at that everytime for the very same reason.

Another habit I have is that, whenever I am waiting for some one, I would get out of my car and try looking below the car with my knees on road to see if there is any damage to the underbody, despite me being knowing that there is no damage there. Wife always get angry on me for this. [clap]

Put Stones below the wheel, when parked on slop, even if the handbrake is on and car is gear. :-P

  1. After sitting in, the first thing I do is to speak with her where I want to go. If multiple locations, I tell her all in sequence & trust me, I never forgot anything, & always take the best route by default. Few times it happened I reached the destination & said, " Aare, pahuch bhi gayein ?" as if some one else was driving,
  2. All vehicles are washed daily from outside & weekly from inside,
  3. It goes to service station even for small things, maybe I spend more of fuel but still do it & thanks to the mechanic whom I know well, he does the job complimentary & likes the way I take care of them,
  4. Give good tip to the mechanic who in turn takes extra care of car. Many times he rectifies small things which even I may not notice & also avoids un-required expenditure,
  5. See below the car before starting, especially to confirm that no puppy or something is resting beneath.

@Jayadev:
The one you mentioned:-
open the bonnet and look at the engine as if never saw it before plus check the engine oil like a pro .
This happens to me too and nearly once every week.
I love reading TSI and D-4D again and again..

Okay guys, here is a small list of mine:-
1):Before your passengers shut then doors, you ask them to do it slowly.
2):Opening and closing the door for your GF/Wife.I do this because she shuts it like of an Ambassador and secondly this makes her feel happy too..
3):If any friend smokes inside the car then you will stop ont he highway itslef and will ask him to get out of the car and then do 100 kph with all 4 windows open for a couple of kilometers.

4Th and most important:-you are in a party and are getting bored, suddenly a known person comes and asks you "Which car is good"?
And after that the poor person gets bored for an hour but you are very happy recommending him some good car.
Similarly,if by mistake any friend asks you "anything new"? on the phone. Then you have just one thing to tell "How much you drove, where you got dent etc etc".

@Sclass:
I too strictly follow the fifth point. In fact one day I was about to run over a puppy, but suddenly felt like something is down there.

Okay guys one more point:-
  • You are doing 100 kph and is very happy,in fact you are lost in the drive and suddenly the vehicle in front of you cuts lane without any indication.Although you are at safe distance but still you get annoyed and angry too on the driver.
  • Similarly you can't stop some flowers felling from your mouth for the person who has suddenly came in front of your moving car and has forced you to slam brakes hard(This happens to me nearly everyday).

- Polishing the tyre valves

- Brassoing the radiator cap

- Washing the other side of the tyres as well (the side facing the suspension)

- Cleaning and drying the wheel bolts before refitting.

- Sealing the manufacturer badge with cement/M-seal to guard it against badge snatchers.

- Examining the tyre treads after every drive to check for pebbles lodged between them.

- Feeling jealous to see another new car on the road with a newer registration number[anger]

- Cursing every time it rains

- Refusing to switch on the AC till the engine has warmed up

- Managing to hear sounds from the car which no other person seems to hear.
