Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

2 MONTH UPDATE

Completed 2 months with my beloved Polo recently. The ODO presently reads at 2002kms. With the fuel prices sky-rocketing , it was a great decision to buy a Polo diesel.
09072010049.jpg

FUEL BILLS TILL NOW

Price of 1liter Diesel in Chandigarh - Rs. 41.85
Distance Covered - 2000kms
Diesel Fuel used - 112 lites
Mileage - 17.8kmpl
Total money shed on diesel from my pocket - Rs 4700
Cost of Running = Rs. 2.35/km [:D]

This mileage i am getting is with 50% city and 50% highway driving and with almost 100% times the AC is on.

NIGGLES

Absolutely none. I am a big critic of my own cars and the cars i drive but surprisingly i am yet to face any niggle in my POLO. Everything is still new and in showroom condition. No loose nuts, no creeky sounds from anywhere. Everything about the car feels solid and build to last long.

The only trouble i am having with my Polo is the maintenance of the beige upholstery. Althought it looks good but get soiled so very easily. Planning to get seat covers soon.

FIRST LONG DRIVE IN MY POLO
Now Finally got a chance to test the driving manners and handling of the car in the first week of June.
Have been working tirelessly for months now and finally got a week off from work and started planning my trip. The destination was already in mind as i wanted to see my parents for long and Dad being posted in a hill station what better getaway place could i have asked for from this scorching North Indian heat .
So a plan was made to drive uphill from Chandigarh to Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh.

Distance from Chandigarh to Dalhousie - 315kms

Route taken - chandigarh - roopnagar - hoshiarpur - dasua - pathankot - Dalhousie

The road till pathankot which covers around 225kms is absolutely a drivers delight. Four lane highway throughout with smooth tarred roads. Polo was comfortably cruising at speeds of 120+ kmph without any signs of swaying or vibrations from the steering or the gear lever. Touched a highest of 145kmph for a minute or two before getting back to senses and slowed down. Highway manners of the car are impeccable. Ride and handling is spot on.

After Pathankot the hill incline starts immediately as you take a turn for Dalhousie. The road is pretty good with amazing scenic beauty. I wanted to test the power of the 3 pot engine on hills and to my surprise it never felt out of breath. The last 20kms are a steep incline and the car managed to do it comfortably. The best thing is to maintain a RPM of 2k and the turbo keeps spooling in at every curve and you dont have to downshift often. The handling and cornering ability is spot on as i did some high speed cornering too on my way back and every time i pushed the POLO to its limit, it gave me a smile on my face.

Total Distance covered in the trip - 655kms

Now i will let the pictures do the talking.

Well then I think I am lucky as my Dad is still serving and that does help in exploring new places within the country.
And yes I am loving each moment with my Polo. Its been a fantastic ride till now. I'l be putting up a few snaps of my Polo along with my two cousin brothers hatchbacks Punto and Swift. I am eagerly waiting for the monsoon to arrive here in Chandigarh so I can plan this photoshoot accordingly.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

JULY 13th - 3 Months Completed

Recently did a 480kms trip to dehradun - mussoorie from chandigarh in my Polo. Although we took our Verna too but i never let anyone drive my beauty.[:D]The drive to dehradun is amazing as it goes through lots of interiors and villages of Haryana and Uttarakhand. Lots of Scenic beauty along the road with a little patch of a hilly area in between from Poanta Sahib to Kala Amb.

The drive from dehradun to Mussoorie is around 30kms but is a steep incline. Loved the ease with which the TDI climbed uphill. The torque is just awesome and makes uphill drive so easy than a petrol engine. Polo's superb handling made cornering the Hairpin bends so easy.

Fell in love with VW once again...

MILEAGE/ FUEL EFFICIENCY

During uphill, it was around 14 kmpl due to constant drive in 2nd and 3rd gear. Downhill was 19 kmpl. And on plains, around 20 kmpl.

Our both drives at a halt on our way to dehradun from chandigarh.

The weather in Mussoorie was amazing. Cold and foggy with a nice cloud cover. Truly the queens of hills.

Its been a pretty exciting last 3 months for me since the time i've got my Polo. Its been a sheer pleasure to drive this car whether its on the highway or the city itself. Yet to face any issue in the car. Odo as of today reads at 3100kms and overall the fuel efficincy i am getting is close to 18kmpl with AC on most of the times. Pretty happy![;)]

Yup the weather in Mussoorie was really nice. The road is good throughout from Chandigarh to Dehradun except a 10 odd km patch near Poanta Sahib which is also not that bad as i never scrapped the under-belly of my Polo. [:)]
The only time I did scrap it was once when we were going above Mussoorie to a place called Chardukaan. There were lot of deep rough patches due to small landslides. But our Verna did scrap a couple of times more.
The drive from Mussoorie to Chardukaan is a steep steep incline. I drove almost for good 6-7kms in 1st and 2nd gear only. With 5 adults on board i thought it would be difficult to do this patch but to my surprise my Polo kept the pace with the Verna ahead. Overall a nice experience.

I am driving to Srinagar and Anantnag on 22nd of this month in my Polo. Already excited about the whole trip.

Thanks a lot ToughGuy. Will surely post many pics of the trip.

Another querry i have before going for this long trip is I want to have an arm rest fitted in the front next to the drivers seat. I went to the local VW showroom to ask if they could put the Vento arm rest on my Polo but they said it wont be possible and they blindly said No to the idea.

Now i am eager to get an after market arm rest like the one i have in my Fiesta. Posting a few snaps of the same.

It looks pretty neat and it serves the purpose really well. I am not sure but i might get the same one in beige color too. Should i go for it?

Thanks a lot karlover. Yes indeed, Polo is the hottest hatch on Indian roads at present with Punto finishing a close second in my opinion.
Though the car is now 3 months old, i still cant get enough of admiring this beauty.[embarass]
